Top 2025 recruit on the women's side, Alex Shackell, announced her verbal to the Bears this morning:

#1 RECRUIT IN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2025 ALEX SHACKELL CHOOSES CAL

From Carmel, IN, she will have 2 years of overlap with her brother Aaron, a freshman on the men's team. Parents swam under Durden/Marsh at Auburn, and Alex has a Worlds silver medal anchoring the 800 Free Relay at this year's World Champs. She's an immediate NCAA title contender in the sprint free/fly/IM events and contributor in all 5 relays.

Another NJ boy! They also picked up Ian Platts-Mills from Chapel Hill, NC. Ranked #60 by Swim cloud and was "Best of the rest" by swimswam in the IM events.

With the departure of coach Teri now Bears are now getting more high end recruits. It's no doubt there were lots of negative recruiting during coach Teri reign!

It was mentioned in the comments section of swimswam that Teagan O'Dell & Lilla Bognar visted Cal last week. Teagan is the tied as a #1 ranked on swimcloud (tied with Weinstein & Shackell already Cal signees) & Lilla #7, Of course Teagan also visited UVA & many others but if we snag her this could be better than the Fab 4 class back in 2016.

The ACC swim championship should be super competitive with Virginia, NC State, Stanford & hopefully Cal, again. I don't have the ACC list of schools in front of me but Louisville & some others are competitive, too.

#8 Raya Mellott (2025) just committed to Virginia. She is local, a jr at San Ramon HS and swims for the Crow Canyon Sharks. A breast & IM swimmer. Too bad we couldn't snag someone in our own backyard.
