2024 Fresno State Softball (dxbhsrqyrr690.cloudfront.net)

Sophie Medellin and D'Asha Saiki are members of the Fresno State Bulldogs. Medellin is experiencing a terrific offensive season. She owns a .356 BA% and an OB% of .423. Sophie leads her team in RBIs (37), HRs (6) & doubles (12). She has played errorless softball at 1B, too. Medellin bats 3rd in the Bulldog batting order.

D'Asha Saiki must be injured because she has only played a couple of games this year. GO BEARS!

There have been some historic battles between these teams at Margie Wright Diamond. Hoping for win #30 this evening but Fresno is much improved this year at 28-13. Will be a tough test.

Randi Roelling can only get one out in the B1st. Fresno State has four hits and a walk to load the bases. Basically, RR does not have all of the different pitches that the tv announcer referenced. She mainly has one speed that seldom is missed by good hitters.

Leadoff double by Tianna Bell but CS puts the automatic bunt play on per ususal. Then Chelsea sends Bell home on a ground ball to second base and she is thrown out by ten feet. Why she is the 3rd base coach is beyond me. She has gotten a bunch of runners thrown out at home plate.

This game is going to be a blow out. Haylei Archer is pitching much better and retired the side in the second.

Lagi Quiroga is beginning to take over as the star of the Bears. She is 2-2 tonight. She is one HR behind Elon Butler. The other dominant hitter is Tatum Anzaldo who also is 2 for 2. Cal has had two more base runners called out on the bases in the T3rd. Mika Lee stole second but was called out for leaving early. Then Alyssa Anders singles is Anzaldo but is thrown out trying to make it to second. Bears are giving away too many outs but getting themselves out. Terrible coaching of basic fundamentals. Tianna Bell should have scored and the game should be tied. It is on the coaching staff.

Tianna Bell and Mika Lee have been reasonably consistent offensively. Anders, Bulter & Pond have cooled off bigtime.

Kaylee Pond worked a walk to leadoff the 5th. Hope Alley came into pinch run and stole second base. However, once again, the umpire called her out for leaving early. Four base runners called out on the base paths. Unbelievable.

Top of the sixth, Mika Lee pops up another bunt for an out. With two out and two on, Hope Alley attempted to bunt but fouled it. She then popped up.

Alyssa Anders came through in the clutch with a two run HR to put Cal ahead 4-3. Cal escapes trouble in the B6th so here we go to the 7th inning. Both teams have good hitters coming up. Bears need an insurance run or two now.

Pinch hitter, Carly Raven, for Cal strikes out on three pitches. Quiroga bunts back to the pitcher on one hop and is easily thrown out. She had two hits tonight including a long homerun. Mika Lee singles for Cal's 10th hit and now Tatum Anzaldo comes up (3-3), Anzaldo gets an infield hit to stay perfect (4-4) but Fresno State brings in their ace, Gilmore, who fans Anders with runners on 2nd & 3rd.

Great job by Cal's infield defense and Haylei Archer is definitely the ace of the staff. Bears win 4-3! Fresno State is a solid team. Bears grab their 30th victory of 2024! GO BEARS!

I quit watching because S 71 said it q=was going to be a blowout. What happened? When i checked the final score we had won.

wvitbear-that was mostly when Randi Roelling was in the game in the first inning and yielded 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk while retiring one batter.

Haylei Archer never gave up a run for the remainder of the game. Cal rallied late in the 6th inning to take the lead, 4-3.

Bears made several unforced errors running the bases throughout the game (four to be exact). Obviously, I was incorrect on my statement.

I wonder if Randi is suffering from a minor injury, of sorts. Freshman struggle from time to time. This is not new. However, her ball doesn't seem to be moving in the way it did early in the season.

Would be great if we had Reimers available.

Archer's success last night is simple. 44 strikes and only 12 balls. Her issue has always been one thing, control. If she can do what she did last night she is golden.
