You're correct, and no, relay swimmers also count against the cap. They just haven't made the last scratch yetironically the first swimmer that would go in post scratch would apparently be Chai based on time ranking, but obviously he's no longer an entry.

After adjusting the seeded score with last year's performance, the Bears would score 474.5 points (292 + 182.5). Mewen Tomac should add even more points.

Texas is seeded to score 480 + diving, but most of their swimmers are already seeded at or near their PB.

Freddy Klein is officially scratched from the meet and both divers (Thai and Vavitsas) are now added to the roster.

What a night for the Bears!!

Kicked off the meet with a 3rd* place finish in the 200 medley relay - Seeliger (20.57), Okadome (22.77), Rose (19.39) and Alexy (18.03) combine for a school record 1:20.76. Originally touched 4th, but Florida's NCAA record breaking/champion relay got DQ'd for an early takeoff on the last exchange.

Momentum continues - Bears are the first team EVER under the 6:00 mark, breaking the NCAA, US Open and school record as Alexy (1:30.02), Jett (1:29.16), Lasco (1:29.10) and Henveaux (1:31.47) combine for a 5:59.75!!!

Amazing first day for the Bears. Crazy for Florida on the DQ. Henveaux's start almost gave me a heart attack. He said he lost his streamline in the water. Took off way before Texas but came up even. Strong will to still win and get under 6:00. Roll On You Bears!!

I feel like I spend most of my Cal mental energy thinking about the woes of the football team, but this week with NCAA champs it seems like a good time to reflect on how freakishly dominant Cal swimming has been over the last many years.

Our guys have finished either first or second in the NCAA every year since 2010:

Our odds for this year went up last night with Florida's troubles on the relays and our record setting 800. Going to be a fun meet.

Go bears!

Henveaux breaks the meet record with a 4:07.98, but Jett got fried and added over 5 seconds…

Kopp likely to get a scoring swim as he sits 11th with a heat to go, Jones PB 4:13.62
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Henveaux into tonight's A final as the second seed, Kopp survives and gets a second swim in 15th…

Jones just out of scoring in 18th, Jett had a 4:15.65 for 30th…
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lasco doing what he does best… 1:39.23 for the second seed in the A final, Tomac drops a second and a half for a 1:41.40 for a B final swim in 12th

50 free - Alexy 18.48 for 5th in the A final, Bjorn… minor add and scrapes into the B final for 16th…

Well, mixed bag morning for the Bears. They have 3/3 evening swims, with finalists of:

500 free: Henveaux (A), Kopp (B)
200 IM: Lasco (A) / Tomac (B)
50 free: Alexy (A) / Seeliger (B)

Jett and Seeliger should have been A-finalists, especially with Seeliger's track record of A-finaling every year prior to this. He just squeezes in to the B-final, tying for 15th (0.01 away from being 17th).
swimmer19

Ideally we would have needed a lot more than just those two additional A finals. Would have liked to see a second swim from Jones, Tomac moving into the A final, and an additional 50 free scorer, but alas.

Time to regroup and focus on tonight. Session by session, day by day.

Lasco nipped at wall by Kos! The announcers are really cheerleading for Texas and they look like the favorites with Ca

Two events in (well, almost...) 2 standout swims.

Rose breaks Hoffer's Cal record in the 100 fly in 43.74 en route to the 2nd seed in tonight's A final. Henveaux continues a stellar meet with just posting a 3:37.24 in the 400 IM out of heat 2, should make the A final. Kopp to swim in the last circle seeded heat coming up shortly.
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Najera 3:40.34 PB in the second seeded circle heat, currently 9th and should score tonight pending this last heat with Kopp swimming.
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Kopp breaks 3:40 for the first time and makes it into the B final in 13th. Najera survives in 15th and gets his first All-American honor.

Henveaux in the A, but Texas puts up 3...

Both Koop #13 and Najera #15 into the B final, with Henveaux #2 into A. Unfortunately Texas got 3 into the A final in the 400IM.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Alexy and Jett make the A final of the 200 free, Hanson with the short end of the stick and first man into the B final, but half a second personal best for him. Texas 2 up...
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Okadome with another PB 50.62 to make the 100 breast A final in 7th, Rivers gets a second swim with a 51.45 in 16th.

Bring on the party!!

Lasco and Tomac make the A final in the 100 back, Seeliger finds himself stuck in a tie for 16th and will need a swim off

Seeliger won swim off 44.17. Too bad didn't swim this fast the first time. Go Bears!

Looked like a really good morning for the bears. Is that enough to give us a good chance of catching up to Texas tonight?
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We should cut their lead, but how much it gets cut will depend on our lower seeded guys in the heats (Najera, Rivers, Seeliger) can move up. Also hoping for some 3m points from Thai. Texas diving should effectively be done scoring which is a bonus for us.
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
One round left in 3M diving prelims. Thai is sitting solidly in 10th and will likely score B final points unless he has a big last dive that moves him into the top 8. Vavitsas has some work to do in 21st, but is a platform specialist and should make noise tomorrow.
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wow. Thai barely squeaks into the 3M consolation final in 16th.

43.52 for Rose to earn 4th in the 100 fly. A "slide" from his prelims placement (3rd) but a massive -0.2 drop from his morning swim, which was already a PB. Resets his school record. Awesome swim!

In the 400 IM, Bears continue a strong showing. Koop and Najera earn 10th and 14th, while Henveaux earns 3rd, all in PBs. Really impressive swims across the board.
HBear

Bears go 3-5 (Jett, Alexy) and 13th (Hanson) in the 200 free. Texas has monster back-to-back events, with wins in the 400 IM (Maurer about 0.5s off the AR) and 200 free (Hobson breaking his AR by about 0.5s).

Okay 100s for the Bears. 7th and 16th (Okadome, Rivers) in the 100 BR, and then 4-5 (Tomac, Lasco), 12 (Bjorn) in the 100 BK. Kos (Texas) sets a NCAA record in the 100 BK.

Bears need TX to DQ in next 2 relays.

Backstroke bears doing their thing...

Lasco, Jett and Tomac make the A final, with Jones and Najera getting into the B. Hoped for more from Jones since he was 1:38 last year in the morning compared to 1:39.2 just now.

Texas 2 up, potentially one down pending a three way swimoff for 16th - between them, Ohio State and Stanford
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
100 free - Alexy dropping a 40.45 for 3rd into the A final, Seeliger 10th and Jensen 15th into the B final
