Orange comes in and delivers a scoreless 4th highlighted by an ESPN-worthy diving catch from Anders.

Cal blows the 8-0 lead. Fresno State has tied the game 8-8 and the bases are loaded with no outs.

HUGE double play on the suicide squeeze. Bell snags the bunt and fires it to 3B for the second out.

De Nava escapes the bases loaded, no outs jam with a line out to CF.

Kaylee Pond crushes double over CF's head to lead off top of the 7th. I did not think any hitter could hit the ball over the outfield today with the wind blowing in. Tianna Bell sac fly scores go-ahead run. Now= Miranda De Nava needs to close the door in the B7th. She did it! Cal wins 9-8. GO BEARS!

Cardiac Bears. Fresno State gets a runner in scoring position but Cal holds on to win 9-8.

I love the fight in the Bears! But let's be honest with ourselves-this game showed our ceiling. We don't have the pitching to do much more than make the tournament. And don't get me started on the baserunning and fielding. We had one "error" but had 3 individual mental fielding errors in Fresno State's 5 run inning.

Enjoy this season, expect some heart-stopping games, and hopefully, be pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to Top 15 recruit and California Sophomore of the Year, Mya McGowan, joining next year. De Nava is talented, and I could see Miranda and Mya forming a tough 1-2 punch.

Our bats will have to make up for our pitching struggles.

Cal takes an early lead over Cal State Bakersfield, 1-0, in B2nd. Mia Phillips has been the top new recruit among the position players by a large margin. She opened the inning by ripping her fourth triple. Nailyn Marshall singled her home. Ryann Orange is the starter in this morning affair. CSU Bakersfield is 9-11 on the season.

Anders with a clutch 2 rbi double in the 4th gives us some breathing room. 4-0 Bears

Phillips comes through again. Bases clearing 3 RBI double. What a rookie season she's having so far. 4 triples in 16 games.

Bears run-rule CSU Bakersfield, 9-0 in six innings. Tianna Bell launched a 2-run HR to end it. Frosh Harmony Andrade collected her initial college base hit and fellow freshman, RHP Kayla Mashhoud, made her pitching debut and retired all four batters that she faced.

CSUB 0, CAL 9 - Final

Fresno State night cap at 3pm with both teams pitching their aces. It should be on the Mountain West Network.

Fresno State starter has the Cal hitters off balance with her change-up the first time through the order. Tianna Bell probably got robbed of a HR to LF by the wind. It was blowing in all game yesterday and appears to be doing the same today.

Bears get two singles in the top of the third and plate a run on a ground out by Anders. The Bulldogs have brought in their ace, a southpaw, Neiss.

The top of the 5th, Cal opens up a 7-0 lead and knocks out Fresno State's best pitcher. Three doubles, errors and good fortune have contributed to the offensive outburst. The final stats for the inning ended up being: 6 runs on 4 hits plus 4 errors. Quiroga would have been thrown out by twenty feet trying to go from first to third on a single, but the throw hit her squarely in the back. It was called an error on the CF.

De Nava pitches to contact but has good control. She yielded 2 runs on six hits but only one extra base hit. It was the two-run triple by the Bulldog's CF, Alyssa Robolledo, that plated the two runs in the B7th. She went 3 for 3 vs Miranda this afternoon. De Nava only struck out two but walked nobody. Her record is now 6-1.

De Nava's thrown a beautiful game. Was one out away from the shutout but Fresno State plates two on the RBI triple. 7-2 Bears

Victory. Cal improves to 14-4 on the season.

Not sure who to contact but CalBears.Com is incorrectly calculating ERA for the pitchers (official stats).

Orange went from a 3.94 ERA to well over 4 after throwing a shutout. Same for DeNava. They are overshooting her ERA by nearly an entire run.

Orange has or had 31 IP and 15 ER Soo..15/31 X 9=4.35?

15/31 = 0.4823

0.4823 x 7= 3.38 ERA

Yeah, every ERA is wrong on the official stats. Weird.

Just another gripe with CalBears.com. The website admin didn't even take two minutes to update the Freshman's bios with up to date high school information from their senior years. Just a copy and paste from their letter of intent signing from two years ago. I'd happily volunteer to do it.

Besides Teperson's stellar pitching, Harmony Andrade's two doubles jumped out of the box score! Elon Butler's perfect day (3-3) also stood out but it's a bit more expected. Annabel's 2-hit complete game was by far her finest moment of the season so far. GO BEARS!
