Is this a possibility of happening? I don't know anything about these twins from Britain but sounds promising!

They are 21 so if they came for 2027 as spring enrollees they might be 22. Is that too old to be a freshman in college .I would say no but maybe they have other life plans. Also most of these elite international gymnasts probably graduated hs/secondary via an online school/individual tutoring. So are they UC eligible.?

I would say yes..look at Tonya Paulsson she is 22 now & will be 23 on Aug 28. Doesn't look to be any different.

As a reminder the gymnastic team will be competing in the regionals bracket this week in Tempe AZ.

Semi-finals Thurs at 7pm (pst) and if they are lucky to advance (top 2 adv) then finals will be Sat at 5pm. Think the meet will be streamed on ESPN plus (paid site). Best of luck to the Bears!

I believe emJae Frazier is a star for #3 Florida. Hopefully, the Bears can advance tonight by finishing in the top 2.
GO BEARS!

Bears start on their best event - Bars - but, it's not their best performance of the year. Far from it. 49.200
Penn State also underperformed on Floor although it's their weakest event.

After first rotation:
Florida (vault) 49.600 !
Cal (bars) 49.200
Penn State (floor) 49.150
Arizona State (beam) 49.100

Still a battle for second
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Second rotation:
Florida (bars) 49.625 (running away with the meet)
Penn State (vault) 49.025 (their second worst event this year)
Cal (beam) Newman-Achee falls! - 49.050 as a result
ASU (floor) 48.975

Totals:
Florida 99.225
Cal: 98.250
PSU: 98.175
ASU: 98.075

So, Cal clings to second headed to vault and floor.
Penn State has bars and beam.
ncbears

Third rotation went well!
Bears got 49.375 on floor - second highest score of the year.
Penn State did not perform bars well for them - 48.800
Florida slipped to 49.450 on beam (sarcasm)
Arizona State 48.975 on vault

So, after three
Florida (in a different class) 148.675 (on way to another 198)
Cal - 147.625
ASU - 147.050
PSU - 1476.975

So, as Cal goes to its weakest event - vault - it has an almost 0.600 lead.
I think a team score of 49.000 should be enough to advance.

PSU to beam - and it they were shaky on bars, we will see. their last three meet scores were 49.025, 48.975 and 48.825, but right before that they scored 49.450.
ASU to bars - best score this year was 49.200

Brown starts Cal off on vault with a 9.9!]
But Paulsson only scores a 9.7 - which Cal will hope to drop.

Silvers with a 9.825
Newman-Achee with a 9.775
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wiley does a very poor final vault - 9.675
And total vault score is: 49.050.

And that's enough to advance, even though team score is just 196.675 one of the worst team scores this year - haven't been this low since January 24.
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Penn State does get 49.225 on beam but that only gets them to 196.200
ASU with a 49.000 on bars to get to 196.050.

Obviously, Cal will have to do a lot better on Saturday against Michigan State, Georgia and Florida again.
Michigan State 197.350 and Georgia 197.125 today.
Florida with another 198 team score today. 198.125 - they are way ahead.

So, hopefully Bears put it together and get a top score for the year on Saturday - it's going to have to be 197 something. But, Cal's best this year is 197.225. They likely have to match that to advance to the final 8

Good teams have all 9.8+ or 9.9+ & even 10 individual scores but we are inconsistent with too many 9.7s individual scores in all of our events.

yeah they will have to have the meet of the season on Saturday to advance. Vault and Beam scores gonna have to improve.

Are the G twins coming to Cal. Two Olympic medalist level twins in the lineup plus Odine healthy would make us a top 10 for sure.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I tuned in late and didn't see the Bears' first rotation on beam.
But it wasn't good 49.025 having to count a 9.725 and a 9.750.

Georgia smoked bars at 49.525
Florida on vault 49.375
Michigan State on floor at 49.375 also.

Bears to Floor.
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Second rotation
Bears do very well on floor - 49.425 - highlighted by Paulsson's 9.950 (which may get her to nationals if Cal does not advance). That score is better than Michigan State's score. (One MSU person also got a 9.950 on floor)

Georgia had several checks but still total 49.250 on beam (compared to Cal's 49.025)
Florida crushed bars again - 49.575 (topping Georgia's score)
Michigan State just solid on vault - 49.325

Totals through two
Florida 98.950
Georgia 98.775 (and done with beam)
Michigan state 98.700
and Cal trails 98.450

It's not looking good for Cal to advance - but we go rotation by rotation
Cal to vault and will finish on bars
JTfromClash
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They needed an above average beam rotation. It was subpar. Florida and Georgia on fire. Not looking good despite a really strong floor from Cal.

Valut needs to be super high now
ncbears

To my untrained eye, Brown deserved better than 9.850

Yeah i.dont.understand where they took off a tenth

The other vaults though have been mostly adequate - other than Newan-Achiee.
It's not one of Paulsson's better events and she is not participating, which means no AA score
JTfromClash
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They needed above average on beam and vault. Didnt happen. Oh well. Good season given all the lost and then Ondine's injury.

Hope for a great bars rotation! Go Bears!

Ca's vault was, for the Bears, a respectable 49.150, but it is far behind the other teams.
Cal, as a team, just isn't on par with the others in Tempe. (Ugh- Stanford advanced)

Florida with 49.550 on beam.
Georgia on floor was 49.550 to keep pace with Florida.
Michigan State was 49.375 on bars but behind Florida and Georgia.

Florida (headed to Floor) 148.500
Georgia (headed to vault) 148.375 - theoretically could catch Florida but unlikely
Michigan State (headed to beam) 148.075
Cal (headed to bars) and out of it at 147.600.

ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cal finishes with a 49.375 on bars - a good score - but not one of their better scores.
Michigan State bobbles on beam and scores only 48.925.

Florida floor of 49.550 and win the day with 198.050
Georgia top vault score of day at 49.425 and total 197.750.
Michigan State finishes at 197
Cal just misses third at 196.975.

Stanford and Clemson were tied for second going into the final rotations there - Stanford on vault and Clemson on Bars. Stanford final vaulter scored 9.950 and that was part of the difference.
The Howells earned their pay at Clemson with a conference championship and an oh so close trip to the finals.
I fully understand their departure - and, of course, curse Jim, Jay and Jenny.

I think even an average ad would have had the capabilities of retaining the Howells. We don't normally lose coaches on any of the Olympic sports. Look at the long tenures of many of our coaches. So, it was surprising when they left. Our replacements are probably just as good but it did set us back a year in recruiting plus we lost two players. I can't think of a single positive thing that JJ twins have done to elevate our athletic greatness.

ncbears-here's the balance beam analysis that I witnessed.

https://roadtonationals.com/results/schedule/meet/32772

Miki Aderinto 9.725
Sarah Lee 9.700
Sage Melkon 9.750

Newman-Ach 9.900
Ton Paulsson 9.850
Abby Scanlon 9.800

Cal had trouble sticking their landings. Four of the Bears did their dismounts off to the side (mid-beam) and all four failed to not take a step forward or backward. The two that closed their routines off of the end of the beam both stuck their landings (Annalise Newman-Achee + Abby Scanlon). Tonya Paulsson had a 9.9+ routine in process but failed at the end.

When Sarah Lee bombed out, I knew Cal was in trouble. She had scored three 9.90 scores on the balance beam recently.
