USA Swimming Names 2015 Rosters for Three Major International Competitions
10/30/2014
USA Swimming today announced Olympian-laden United States rosters for a trio of major international competitions in 2015 – the FINA World Championships, Pan American Games and World University Games.
“The momentum generated in 2015 will be key for USA Swimming as we build toward the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio,” said USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch. “We’ve assembled three exciting teams for next summer, and I look forward to seeing how we stack up on the international stage.”
Team USA will send a 47-member squad to the pool competition at the 2015 FINA World Championships, set for Aug. 2-9, 2015, in Kazan, Russia. Among the group are 20 Olympians, including 14 gold medalists.
Leading the way for the U.S. will be Olympic gold medalists and world record-holders
Missy Franklin (Centennial, Colo.) and Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.), who were the stars of the 2013 FINA World Championships. In Barcelona, Franklin won a record six gold medals, and Ledecky added four gold medals and set her first two world records.
Headlining the American men in Kazan will be Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.), who has amassed 23 career FINA World Championships medals and paced the U.S. men at 2013 Worlds with three gold medals. Other individual Olympic gold medalists on the Team USA roster include
Nathan Adrian (Bremerton, Wash.), Tyler Clary (Riverside, Calif.),
Anthony Ervin (Valencia, Calif.) and Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill.).
Also named were the 36 pool athletes nominated to represent the U.S. at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto from July 14-18, 2015. Pending approval by the United States Olympic Committee, the roster includes a star-studded group featuring more than 20 National Team members, 10 Olympians and six Olympic gold medalists. A complete 2015 Pan American Games roster is available online.
Highlighting the group is
Natalie Coughlin (Vallejo, Calif.), a three-time Olympian and 12-time Olympic medalist. She will be joined in Toronto by fellow U.S. Olympic gold medalists Cullen Jones (Irvington, N.J.), Matt McLean (Sterling, Va.), Allison Schmitt (Canton, Mich.) and Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Headlining the 46 swimmers named to Team USA for the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, will be 2012 Olympians
Rachel Bootsma (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Lia Neal (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Shannon Vreeland (Overland Park, Kan.). They lead a contingent of 30 USA Swimming National Team members. A complete 2015 World University Games roster is available online.
Featuring swimmers ages 17-23 who are current college students or recent graduates, the World University Games has been a springboard to international success for numerous swimmers, including Clary, Grevers, Jones and fellow Olympic gold medalists Rebecca Soni and
Dana Vollmer. The 2015 World University Games swimming competition is slated for July 4-11, 2015.
Complete selection procedures for each team are outlined at usaswimming.org. The open water swimmers slated to compete at each competition will be named in 2015

Team USA Swimmers Named for 2015 World University Games

2012 U.S. Olympian Rachel Bootsma will represent her country in Gwangju, South Korea in July, 2015 at the World University Games.
USA Swimming has announced its 2015 World University Games team of 47, highlighted by 2012 Olympians
Rachel Bootsma (Cal), Lia Neal (Stanford), and Shannon Vreeland (Georgia). Also on the team for the men is a loaded lineup that includes Jack Conger (Texas), Matt Ellis (Texas), Matthew Josa (D2 – Queens), Caeleb Dressel (Florida),
Jacob Pebley and
Josh Prenot (Cal), and
Andrew Seliskar. There are four Texas Longhorns and four current or future Cal Bears on the men’s team alone: representing the top two teams at last year’s NCAA Championship meet.
The World University Games will take place next summer in Gwangju, Korea from July 4-11. Athletes must be enrolled in a recognized degree program to be eligible for the team. Seniors who graduate this spring are also eligible, and there’s no requirement for athletes to be affiliated with the NCAA to participate.
Athletes qualified based off of their finishes at last summer’s U.S. Nationals. Swimmers on the U.S. team for the World Championships in Kazan are ineligible for this team (except for relay-only swimmers and non-Olympic event-only swimmers), so the World University Games team gives the next tier of swimmers a chance to compete internationally.
Team USA finished second in the medal table at the last World University Games in 2013, as host Russia crushed the field with 17 golds. Americans brought home 6 golds and 24 total medals.

USA Swimming Team for Pan American Games announced
http://swimswam.com/usa-swimming-team-for-pan-american-games-announced/USA Swimming has named its official Pan American Games team for next summer’s meet, and it will be led by American veterans and Olympic medalists
Natalie Coughlin, Allison Schmitt, and Cullen Jones.
While a subordinate meet to the World Championships team, this is still a very important meet in the pre-Olympic year as it’s an opportunity for young hopefuls to get their first big taste of senior international competition, and it’s also a chance for veterans who came up short of the World Championship team to have a focus and test meet prior to the final dash to Rio.
In addition to the three mentioned above, some of the better-known names on the team will include Andrew Gemmell, Jimmy Feigen, Nick Thoman, Darian Townsend, Olivia Smoliga, Amanda Weir,
Caitlin Leverenz,
Madison Kennedy, and Katie Meili.
In total, this roster almost rivals that of the 2015 World Championship team in terms of name recognition and experience, which shows just how deep and difficult it’s become to make a U.S. international team.
Pan Ams begin on June 11th in Toronto, Canada. Athletes earned their spots on this team based on finishes from last summer’s U.S. Nationals. Swimmers on the World Champs or World University Games teams are not eligible for this squad, giving USA Swimming a chance to send three different national teams to major meets next summer.
At the last Pan American Games in 2011, the U.S. brought home 18 golds and 46 total medals, both the highest totals of any squad. Those Games were held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
