California third baseman Quentin Selma was named the Pac-12 Conference Baseball Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday after an impressive four-game stretch on Feb. 17-23.
Selma paced the Bears' offensive attack against UC Santa Barbara and St. John's by batting .538 (7-for-13) with 11 runs batted in and two extra-base hits. He also drew five walks to post a .667 on-base percentage.
The junior from Clovis, Calif., saved his best for last on Sunday against St. John's, as he blasted a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the game tied, 7-7, Selma fought through a nine-pitch at bat before clearing the bases with his first long ball of the year to clinch the win for Cal.
