A simple way to consider these historical European parties is bifurcate between size of government and ownership of property.

From a historical standpoint (although much of it was driven by geopolitical disruption from World War I), the Fascist party is more on the far right and the Bolshevik party is more on far left, with both parties promoting more and more government controlling aspects of speech and behavior. Fascist are often confused by conservatives with the far left because both sides believe in bigger government, with government controlling / criminalizing speech and promoting high taxes for stronger government. Historically Fascist party and Bolshevik party promoted criminalizing speech (identified as hate speech or disloyal speech) and using shame to get people to all speak and behave the same way. However, fascism believes in individual property ownership and market driven economic factors, with high taxes only for military. As such, fascism is more aligned with the far right. But the far left is more aligned with the Bolshevik party that is also known historically for criminalizing speech, antisemitism, and bigger government regulation over every facet of behavior. 1984 and Animal Farm were about both fascism (Mussolini) and Bolshevism (Stalin).

Historically, Republicans in this country before MAGA and Christian Nationalism, were more along the lines of Libertarianism, with smaller government and free enterprise. No party has ever been on the opposite coin of libertarianism (anarchy where there is little government but also no ownership of property). Both anarchism and libertarianism believe in liberalism, with liberal freedom for human behavior. Neither party now can be said to currently adopt any aspect of liberalism but instead both sides want government to control and criminalize speech and get people to think the same. Now the Republican Party, by getting into social wars, delving deeper into racism, and government control over daily life, has delved into fascism. The far left has always been about authoritarianism (bigger government means of course more government control). As such, the far left is and will always be more Bolshevik. Moderates on both sides tend to be more similar with each other since the moderates do not want authoritarian government (more freedom and less control from government), even if they disagree on ownership limits and market forces.
