What I suspect happened to Dr. Makary was -- and this is soooo typical for pancreatic surgeons -- they're at cocktail parties, trying to stick to their expertise and pretty soon people get bored hearing about the pancreas and then they end up all by themselves, standing in front of the clam dip. After 15-20 parties like this, they decide to try and become more well-rounded conversationalists.

That is true, from personal anecdotal evidence. However, these clotting issues with covid seem to happen while you're sick, not years later.
