Agree. I was very disappointed in Vance today. And up to this point, I have not been anti-Vance, all things considered. He's been influenced by the wrong people the past few years.

Embarrassing day for America. Worse for Ukraine. Great day for Putin and Russia though, so some posters in this thread are happy!

So there's this whole thing that Vancy Pants brought up about a lack of thank you, right?

I didn't have any time to watch any of this yesterday, but just started watching the entire event.

The FIRST THING Zelensky literally, actually, truthfully says is "Thank you very much, Mr. President." Then he says "Thank you for the invitation."

That's really the first thing he says. If you haven't watched it yet and got caught up in the whole thank you thing, I suggest you go watch it now.

Vancy Pants is such a weasel.

What kind of bulls$&t is this?

They are asking Zelensky to acknowledge and thank them for the support America has given them to defend against Russia.

Is there some amount of funding that lets Ukraine win? If so, is Ukraine winning in our national interest? Is it a good ROI? Would US troops have to be deployed? Is Europe really (finally) step up and spend like it's supposed to? And most importantly, are there other ways to achieve our national interest?

I don't Trust Putin and I am absolutely not an isolationist. But I see no path forward where Ukraine wins or beats back Russia to retake its territory. And a massive Hell No to US boots on the ground.
Since you are such a fan person of Vance, what do you think of his performance yesterday?
I prefer a less combative more professional and mature approach to things. I trend toward believing if you have to fight you've already lost. That said, there's plenty of reporting to demonstrate why they had at it with Zelensky. This clearly wasn't a one off with him.

Look, he's in a very tough spot. He wants actual security assurances from the US because he doesn't trust Putin. Completely understandable. Except he is NEVER going to get it from this administration.

This was his 3rd chance to sign the rare earth deal, gain US economic interest in Ukraine and have European troops securing the peace. He insisted on coming to DC to sign the deal then went sideways on it again, this time publicly. Trump/Vance had enough. .

He challenged them directly about the effectiveness of US diplomacy, saying it has failed since Obama. Rude behavior to do that publicly when you are also asking for more support. And the irony was lost on Z…if US diplomacy under the last 3 administrations failed maybe it is time for a different approach. You know, like Trump is now advocating for.

I actually wonder if that was more a language thing.....since his main point wasn't that US diplomacy failed but rather that Putin doesn't keep his word and that diplomacy ALONE (if we take that to mean written agrements) will not stop the conflict.

I am also not sure why Vance needed (other than to suck up) to keep bashing Biden. But I have come to expect that this is the modern conservative movement as we endlessly litigate the last election any chance we can rather than to talk about the future.

Challenged, disrespectful non verbals, closed body language, wants US troops on the ground, and then threatens our country.

Today says - after Starmer gives him a $2 Billion loan - that if the US pulls support, "The UK will have to give him $250 Billion in frozen Russian assets."

Which would mean the war would escalate, he has no backup troops, and Russia takes Odessa and Kiev. Would we even sell him military goods now?

Quote:

Mostly I shifted from criticizing the last administration to criticizing this one, without taking too much time to savor liberal meltdowns, because mostly they're right about this crew, even if for the wrong reasons and with the cringiest critiques. But seeing how deep the brainwashing on Russia and Ukraine goes is kind of amazing. These generally silent and demoralized little dummies rouse themselves to, of all things, perform their outrage about a conflict they don't even have the barest bit of a clue about beyond what they heard on CNN. These same dummies said nothing when Netanyahu got the most standing ovations in history in Congress, and they never have much to say about our alliance with Saudi Arabia, which committed a far more brutal campaign against its neighbor Yemen, than Putin has waged in Ukraine. The media has told them to care about the one and not the other, and never do these brainwashed puppets stop for a moment to ask, "Why?"

Acrtually......

I think there has been strong concern about Saudis. And last time I checked the right went ape**** about a bunch of college kids being college kids last spring about Gaza (which I am not defending cause they were so simplistic in their understanding of that **** conflict).

Hold up. He thanked them. Furthermore, even if he hadn't, they personally want to be thanked for something that they themselves state that they wouldn't have provided and are adamantly against?

It was a perfunctory, insincere thank you - with a request for more, and USA troops on the ground.

Look at Zelensky today, same thing.

Starmer gives him a $2 Billion loan; then Zelensky says if the US cuts him off, Europe must give him $250 Billion in frozen Russian assets. He wants the war to continue. His own aides claim he is "messianic" in his beliefs.

Where will he get the ammunition and fresh meat?

Yes, Trump is arrogant, just like Biden and Obama. President Trump, however, has opened up dialog, and wants peace. He's also protecting American men and bringing hostages home.

I watched all 50 minutes and especially the question from the Polish press person that set this horrific fall out in motion.

I don't think that. I think that it is critically important for trump to "cut a deal". This motivation is so dominant. The flip side is that politics (domestic) bores the **** ouf of him. But in IR he engages. Then you have to see that he very much views things as Zero sum. Someone wins and the other guy is a sucker. There is no "win win". So it is all this dominance crap.

Why the "Whoops?" He has always been a Hawk on Russia and still is, intellectually. This just shows he is continuing to sell out for power.

Every vicious thing he ever said about Trump is true and he now knows more than ever that it's true.

He has a Catholic conscience and sense of guilt so you know he can feel his soul rotting doing the bidding of a man without morals, ethics or a Code of Honor.

Someday he may feel as low as Harvey Keitel in The Bad Lieutenant and seek redemption.

Might be worth noting now that during his first term, Trump tried to withhold aid to Ukraine on the demand that Zelenskyy dig up dirt on Joe Biden. That was kind of what his whole first impeachment was about. So again, if you were him, how much stock would you put in Trump to hold to his promises?

"Sidestepping Carlson's opening question, Putin launched into a rambling half-hour lecture covering more than a thousand years of Russian and Ukrainian history that placed the roots of today's war firmly in the distant past. His core message was chillingly simple: Ukraine has no right to exist and he is fully justified in waging a war of aggression to reclaim historically Russian lands.

…. At the same time, the real takeaway from the interview was Putin's apparently genuine belief that his antiquated historical arguments could serve as plausible justification for a major war in twenty-first century Europe. This is perhaps the clearest indication yet of the dangerous delusions and imperial ambitions that led Putin to invade Ukraine.

….. How far could Putin go? Throughout his reign, he has consistently lamented the fall of the USSR, which he has referred to as the demise of "historical Russia." After the events of the past two years, it should be painfully apparent that anywhere Putin regards as "historical Russia" is potentially at risk.

In theory, at least, the same bogus historical arguments that have been used to justify the invasion of Ukraine could easily be applied to other parts of the former Soviet Union, or to the Russian Empire of the Czarist era. This would create an array of possible targets for Russian aggression including Finland, Poland, the Baltic states, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Alaska, and the whole of Central Asia. A maximalist interpretation could even see all of Central Europe's former Soviet satellite states besides Poland added to the list."

Britain purposefully undermining us?

So we fund a giant portion of the war, and Britain gains the spoils - while we protect them?

POTUS may have been forcing the hand to get the alleged 100-year-deal published.

Some believe the IC wants us in the 'neutral zone', so a false flag operation is launched, to drag us deeper into the war. There are allegations our MIC / Pentagon have plans to completely dismantle and extract wealth from Russia. These plans include, if needed, a nuclear war that we 'survive' even though 90% may perish.
