Hillary is smart. She came across as smart in debates and was a credible candidate. She made some boneheaded mistakes as well.

But I'm going to go one step further because I think I have to slow it down in order for you to actually understand the point here.

Desantis is smart. He's smarter than Gavin. I've never claimed otherwise. But the problem is that Desantis is operating a game plan that is predicated on and designed for dum dums, since that's what the GOP has become. So Gavin, a less smart person than Desantis, was able to easily defeat Desantis in a debate (putting it mildly) because Ron is trying to sell a loser of a platform to dumb people. Desantis may very well be capable of having a sophisticated policy debate beyond what Gavin could handle, but that would make Desantis lose even more badly to Trump and other GOPers and thus it will never happen.

You're a smart guy but you keep coming back here apparently oblivious to what happens to you when you do. How long before you ball up your fists in anger and run away again? A day, a week or more?

Didn't feel like commenting on all of the old posts making the same old arguments. What is the requirement for future reference to avoid not being accused of walking away in anger?

Shows up out of nowhere (his previous foray into OT ending just as the dozens of prior engagements have, and just as this one will in an hour, a day or a week), responds to an on topic post about the debate with a bizarre attempt to involve me in a discussion about Desantis' intellect.

I respond with a post agreeing with you and pointing out something else (which could in no way be deemed as personal).

You respond yet again, this time with a personal attack. I mostly ignore your flailing attempt to bait me, since I know at this point you are pretty close to losing it (and, like most people here, I've seen you lose your sh^t time and time again on OT for a wide variety of reasons).

Next, as I apparently failed to take the bait to your satisfaction, you once again made this personal.

Having finally agreed to stoop to your level and respond, you then had the gall to pretend like I was the one who started the personal inquiry and went on with your absurd line of inquiry that somehow I couldn't criticize Desantis unless I thought I would do better as a candidate for President. You've made similar arguments in other contexts so I can only presume that you actually think this is a logical response to criticism. Because you will disappear soon, I'm going to do you a favor and not speak any further on the absurdity of your claim before we start talking about Ivy league schools and pedigree.

Are we done here or are you going to continue to hilariously pretend that I'm the one who made my ridicule of Desantis a personal discussion between you and me?

Just to be clear, this is nothing personal. I don't know you in real life but I do know what you do as a poster here. And the ending to this little exchange was preordained from the very second you were triggered to write a post attempting to bait me into a discussion about my personal intelligence, as if it were at all relevant. You don't have to be as smart as Ron Desantis to see where this was heading. And now we've reached the logical conclusion.

You are also not being honest in your post. You did not agree with me initially. You took another dig at DeSantis' intelligence by saying he is smart for a GOP. That is an unfair characterization based on his actual bio.

What was my personal attack against you and how did you "ignore my flailing attempt to bait" you? And this is your idea of ignoring? Since you called to question his smarts, I was truly asking if you think you are objectively smarter than him. Why is that an insult? I don't think I am objectively smarter than him. I am not offended by that. Wanted to see if you felt so much superior to him in smarts despite his accomplishments that you think he lacks smarts. That is your idea of a personal attack? Here?!

And my response about the idiocy of the liberal platform wasn't about you. It was a counter to the implication that the idiocy (which I acknowledged) resides solely on the right. I pointed out the idiocy on the left. Again, not a personal attack.

And then you stated snidely that I was right in noticing that you were running for president.

Again, my non-personal attack response was that Hillary is smart but she was still a bad candidate. As such, someone can still be viewed as smart while being a candidate. Hillary lost to freaking idiot Trump. Does this mean she is not smart anymore? I know you are too smart to make that argument. How is that a personal insult?

Then you went down the rabbit hole of how I ran off in a huff (even though I have been posting - just not as frequently since this board feels like a deja vu with the same people making the same arguments on same topics).

So, just refrain from personal insult, don't take me saying you are too smart not to know that Hillary can be smart and still be a bad candidate as a personal attack, and stop with this false sense of familiarity with people you just know here. You don't know oski003, beargoggle, or me, and you making some assumption about us is somewhat an arrogant position to take. So can we stop with personal accusations and just debate the points without hypersensitivity?

I know you are smart enough to know the difference between being smart and being a good politician.

Elon Musk is one of the smartest men. He would also be a disaster as a candidate for president.

Just because DeSantis flamed out as a Republican candidate and stupidly chose to run to Trump's right instead of more to the center like Haley does not take away the fact that he is smart and most assuredly smarter than perople here. I agree with you - Desantis really is one of the smartest GOP politicians. He's a towering intellectual compared to many of national prominence. The problem is that the GOP platform is built for dum dums.

As opposed to the geniuses on the left who thinks supporting Hamas, taking the sting away from Musk by having places like UC Bekerley unwelcoming for the Jewish community, using terms like Socialism when they don't really mean it, promoting Defund the Police when crime and safety are one of the key items, giving more money when people were putting prior payments in savings and were dying to spend in the face of unprecendented supply chain constraints, saying inflation is transitory despite every other inflation being sticky, putting Biden with all his baggage as the candidate when he may be the only potential candidate other than Harris who could lose to the dangerous Trump, and keeping Menendez in the senate while promoting (rightfully) the expulsion of Santos.

Let's cut to the chase. Do you think you are smarter, on a holistic and objective (as opposed to narrow,, incident by incident basis) than DeSantis? Forget your glib comments on putting down the Republican party (which is deserving of mockery like the Democratic party). And writing glib comments in a forum full of winners spending hours on a football OT forum trying to make themselves feel superior debating the same **** year after year is not defacto proof of superior intelligence.

Hillary is smart. She came across as smart in debates and was a credible candidate. She made some boneheaded mistakes as well.

But I'm going to go one step further because I think I have to slow it down in order for you to actually understand the point here.

Desantis is smart. He's smarter than Gavin. I've never claimed otherwise. But the problem is that Desantis is operating a game plan that is predicated on and designed for dum dums, since that's what the GOP has become. So Gavin, a less smart person than Desantis, was able to easily defeat Desantis in a debate (putting it mildly) because Ron is trying to sell a loser of a platform to dumb people. Desantis may very well be capable of having a sophisticated policy debate beyond what Gavin could handle, but that would make Desantis lose even more badly to Trump and other GOPers and thus it will never happen.

You're a smart guy but you keep coming back here apparently oblivious to what happens to you when you do. How long before you ball up your fists in anger and run away again? A day, a week or more?

I'm sure that DeSantis is smart compared to the average person on the street (you know, the Jay Leno interviews and all... ). But what has he done/said in the past few years that would indicate that he is really smart? I think people who say he is smart are just going by what he did in his college years. And, okay, judging smarts, that is a point in his favor. But he sort of reminds me of the five-star recruit who, for whatever reason, can't play all that well in college. Got overrated.

Is DeSantis "smarter than Gavin" because Newsom has dyslexia and "only" graduated from Santa Clara? When I listen to the two men talk, I am not at all thinking that DeSantis is smarter. Part of this might be my political bias, but I see plenty of smart people right of center and plenty of dumb ones who are left of center, so maybe it's more than that.
