So far this is what we are getting, war with Iran.

Promises made, promises not kept.

Trump didn't start a war with Iran. He previously restored UN sanctions on Iran but the Biden administration rescinded them. In any case, there's more to be seen, this is one of the ways the U.S. got sucked into the Persian Gulf war.

This is one war he could have prevented. Also, the US is participating, refueling Israeli jets with USAF tankers, financing their military, replenishing their bomb arsenal and providing satellite and other intel.

USAF fleet of KC-135s air tankers in the Persian Gulf must have been extensively used given the large scale of the Israeli air force attack.

Decapitating leadership must be a historically prized objective. I recall a prime tribal leader who was on our side, possibly from Afghanistan during those first ME wars, was also removed. He was considered a key figure, and we lost him. It was a huge blow.

On April 13 and October 1, 2024, Iran attacked Israel with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. Further escalation may been prevented but open conflict has been ongoing.

In terms of important dates that might explain current events - on October 16, 2024, Miriam Adelson donated $100 million to Donald Trump.

I have to admit. My whole life nobody has made the US military look weak. But on June 14, 2025 Trump pulled it off. Our military has never looked so weak and pathetic. Worst Commander in Chief ever.

The 65 Project: The Legal Lynch Mob Targeting Trump Lawyers

"The 65 Project, [David] Brock explained, was not an electoral effort. It was not a messaging campaign. It was war. A war against the 6th Amendment, that slender but essential clause guaranteeing every American the right to legal counsel. Its aim? To deprive Republicans, particularly those challenging elections or government orthodoxy, of any capable legal defense.

"Run through Brock's network of nonprofits and housed under Law Works, the 65 Project deployed seasoned political operatives to file bar complaints, ethics charges, and sanctions motions against Trump-affiliated attorneys. The power of the model lay in its asymmetry. A single complaint, even meritless, could cost an attorney tens of thousands of dollars and a year or more in disciplinary review. And even if dismissed, the stain was permanent....

"The project's tactics have drawn sharp rebuke. Congressman Lance Gooden, in April 2025, called the 65 Project a "political hit squad" and demanded a Justice Department investigation. Others on social media have accused the group of colluding with establishment Republicans to kneecap Trump's legal allies. Yet Brock's defenders frame the group as guardians of democracy, protecting the legal profession from ethical collapse....

"And it may be working. Some lawyers are declining GOP clients outright. Others fear disciplinary complaints, X mobs, or worse. The chilling effect is real, and precisely what the architects intended. The War on the Sixth is a war on courage, a war on professional independence, a war on the idea that justice should be blind.
In the end, Brock's smoke-filled rooms are not about cigars or cocktails. They are about control. They are about ensuring that when Republicans step into a courtroom, they do so alone."

Trump is a dictator trying to pull off a Kim Jong Un North Korean military parade but now you're disappointed that it didn't turn out that way?

My take for a while has been that Trump WANTS to be an authoritarian but is too lazy/incompetent to make it happen, and I'm glad to see him prove it once again here.

So what's all the fuss over a wannabe authoritarian if he's lazy and incompetent? My take for a while is the Democrats have become radicalized and their ideas are unpopular.

I said during the campaign that I thought this argument from Dems was becoming less effective. Unfortunately I don't control all candidates' behavior.

The problem for Republicans is that once Trump is in office his policies also become unpopular.

Trump is an existential threat to our democracy! Trump doesn't even believe in habeus corpus!

Stuff like this was bound not to appeal to the swing voters who somehow hadn't made up their minds about Trump.

Why a professor of fascism left the US: 'The lesson of 1933 is you get out' | US politics | The Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/16/why-a-professor-of-fascism-left-the-us-the-lesson-of-1933-is-you-get-out

"Whether it was the sight of tanks transported into Washington DC ahead of the military parade that marked Trump's birthday last Saturday or the deployment of the national guard to crush protests in Los Angeles, alongside marines readied for the same task, recent days have brought the kind of developments that could serve as a dramatist's shorthand for the slide towards fascism.

…….. As for Los Angeles, my historian's intuition is that sending in the national guard is a provocation that will be used to foment violence and justify martial law.

…… The unabashed narcissism, this Nero-like level of narcissism and this lack of apology … in Russian, it's obnazhenie; 'laying bare'." It's an approach to politics "in which all of the ugliness is right on the surface," not concealed in any way. "And that's its own kind of strategy. You just lay everything out there."

She fears that the sheer shamelessness of Trump has "really disempowered the opposition, because our impulse is to keep looking for the thing that's hidden and expose it, and we think that's going to be what makes the system unravel." But the problem is not what's hidden, it's "what we've normalised because the whole strategy is to throw it all in your face."

….. And then came Trump.

Once again, it was the lack of truthfulness that terrified her. "Without a distinction between truth and lies, there is no grounding for a distinction between good and evil," she says. Lying is essential to totalitarianism; she understood that from her scholarly research. But while Hitler and Stalin's lies were in the service of some vast "eschatological vision", the post-truth dishonesty of a Trump or Putin struck her as different. The only relevant criterion for each man is whether this or that act is "advantageous or disadvantageous to him at any given moment. It's pure, naked transaction."

….. But when Trump won again last November, there was no doubt in her mind. However bad things had looked in 2016, now was worse. "So much had been dismantled … the guardrails, or the checks and balances, had systematically been taken down. The supreme court's ruling on immunity; the failure to hold Trump accountable for anything, including the fact that he incited, you know, a violent insurrection on the Capitol, that he encouraged a mob that threatened to hang his vice-president, that he called up the Georgia secretary of state and asked him to find votes. I felt like we were in much more dangerous territory."

Events so far have vindicated those fears. The deportations; students disappeared off the streets, one famously caught on video as she was bundled into an unmarked car by masked immigration agents; the humiliation of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as Trump and JD Vance ordered the Ukrainian president to express his gratitude to them, even as they were "abusing" him, an episode, says Shore, "right out of Stalinism" to say nothing of Trump's regular attacks on "USA-hating judges" who rule against the executive branch. It adds up to a playbook that is all too familiar. "Dark fantasies are coming true."

….. How bad does she think it could get? Matter-of-factly, she says: "My fear is we're headed to civil war." She restates a basic truth about the US. "There's a lot of guns. There's a lot of gun violence. There's a habituation to violence that's very American, that Europeans don't understand." Her worry is that the guns are accompanied by a new "permissiveness" that comes from the top, that was typified by Trump's indulgence of the January 6 rioters, even those who wanted to murder his vice-president. As she puts it: "You can feel that brewing."*

It's always the incompetence that ultimately causes Trump to fail. Here he is talking about the person he hired to oversee these things

Q: "Tulsi Gabbard testified in March that the intelligence community said Iran wasn't building a nuclear weapon."

Trump: "I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having one."

Last week, the IAEA said in its latest quarterly report that Iran had amassed enough uranium enriched up to 60% purity - a short, technical step away from weapons grade, or 90% - to potentially make nine nuclear bombs. That was "a matter of serious concern", given the proliferation risks, it added.

The agency also said it could not provide assurance that the Iranian nuclear programme was exclusively peaceful because Iran was not complying with its investigation into man-made uranium particles discovered by inspectors at three undeclared nuclear sites.

Was Iran months away from producing a nuclear bomb?
