The pardons, coming in the final hours of Biden's president, amount to an extraordinary flex of presidential power.

Fauci served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Disease for decades, including during the outbreak of Covid in Trump's first presidency. He has been subject to intense vitriol from the political right. Milley served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Trump's first term and has warned Trump is a fascist.

Wow.
Big news.

In a statement to CNN, Milley said he and his family were "deeply grateful" for Biden's action.

"After forty-three years of faithful service in uniform to our nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend whatever remaining time the Lord grants me fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights," Milley said. "I do not want to put my family, my friends, and those with whom I served through the resulting distraction, expense, and anxiety."

Some of those who were issued the last-minute pardons did not get a heads up, a person familiar tells CNN.

Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger and California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff have said they do not want preemptive pardons.

I can certainly understand Milley's opinion.

I'd be like Schiff and Kinzinger, however. I'd reject a pardon and say, "okay, go for it! Try and prosecute me. Let's revisit in court every ounce of it!"

That would be very bad for Trump. Because HE is the guilty one.

Unfortunately, this will give Trump and his misinformation demons the ability to sell to their stupid, misinformed audiences the notion that these pardoned people did anything wrong.

USA is going down hill fast.
Rudy Giuliani said it best: Truth is not Truth.
Alternative Facts.

What a farce, brought to you by Donald Trump and the horrible horrible horrible Republican Party that supports him.

On this day that Trump is sworn back into office again, it's 10pm in America.

The first thing he should do is preemptively pardon himself and his entire staff. After all, it isn't proof of criminality. Rather, they are targets of Democrat witch hunts.

It would be in sync with his authoritarian ways. Prosecute enemies, do whatever he wants.

Emulating Biden is being in sync with "authorization ways?" Interesting...

Biden's pardons reflect Fear. He's no leader, but a weak old man. As if that wasn't obvious.

That Milley wanted one I find curious.
A true warrior faces all challenges.
Milley wants to protect his loved ones, but he has given in to the kidnapper, or even the threat of kidnapping.

Trump, the kidnapper, wins.

I take it as a sign that of admittance by Milley that the Horde of crazies is truly among us.
Like, there were many who stood up against the brainwashed nazis. And they were summarily shot, as the army moved on to the next town.

Just because one is brave enough to stand up to the Horde it doesn't keep you alive. Milley apparently recognizes this.

Wrong. You are simply twisting logic to suit your narrative, as always.

Nothing intellectually novel coming from you.

We know this from 003. Every take of his is intellectual starvation. That Biden would pardon Milley and Fauci reflect the greater concern of the "vengeance tour" from MAGA. Reflecting their wider feelings of isolation and victimization. Now, Joe has taken that away from them so they're just going to have to look for more "enemies".

Nope. I would be disgusted if Trump dropped down to Biden's level and pardoned his staff and family for any and all crimes. That is a flagrant and scary abuse of power.

I think a Hall of Fame Baller/Troll move would have been for Biden to pardon Trump, his family members and the techno oligarchs for crimes committed.

I don't know how wealthy Milley is, but lawyering up to defend yourself can be VERY expensive, even if you are found not guilty. The pardon may have saved his retirement income.

The pardons for Gen. Mark Milley and Anthony Fauci are from January 2014 until today.

003, did you get locked out of Capital One? Aw man. All that money!

Just wait till he releases all the "guilty"-pleaded, prosecuted, and currently jailed ACTUAL CRIMINALS from January 6th Coup d'Etat attempt.

Not just disgusting, but cowardly. If he was going to grant the pardons, he owes it to the public to explain his action and actually take questions to explain his rationale.

The interesting thing is that with the pardons, the "pardonees" can no longer plead the fifth and/or decline to testify if subpoenaed. This arguably helps the republican investigations. And if they lie to the FBI, perjure themselves, or otherwise obstruct the investigations, they will be subject to new charges.

Jared Kushner's father served 14 months in prison. I'd like to see someone from the Biden crime family serve time behind bars.
