In 2024, California contributed $4.1 trillion to the U.S. GDP, which was 14% of the national total. California's economy is the largest in the United States, and it's a global powerhouse.

Most of the Red States are just an anchor around the neck of the United States in general and California, specifically. If we could sever the anchor chain, they would sink to the darkest depths of the ocean faster that the whale sh@it that they are, along with the chances of any MAGA POS ever getting within sniffing distance of the presidency again.

The problem is the Dems here have no competition so they can say anything but many times it's out of whack with the rest of the country and lacks practical sense.

I spent a lot of election season out of state. I can't count how many times I saw Trump's "Kamala supports gender operations for trans prisoners" commercial. I don't even know if it's true but never saw a rebuttal and the tag line " She is for he/she/it and he is for you" was killer. Gavin is the same with health care for illegals. People can have sympathy for groups without granting them privileges. He's DOA in large parts of the country that decide elections- don't even start me on the hair.

Edit: the state is also "liberal " about a lot of performative issues. Making uber drivers employees, less so. Plus Musk opened his plant in defiance of Covid guidelines and everyone backed off- of course he was our darling Elon then . Likewise the romance of the tech industry as egalitarians not the greedy narcissists they mostly are

Smart move by Newsom even if it is transparently a game to enable 2028. The current D party is way too left of center. He knows that and is playing lip service to being more centrist / normal. It absolutely can work.

By 2028, the Ukraine war will probably be over, illegal immigration may not be a prominent issue to voters since the border is closed. Newsom, despite his record in California, will still have big donor money supporting him. If he can distance himself from the far left that's dominating the Democratic party, all he has to do is appear slightly more favorable to women and minority voters in battleground states than JD Vance.

The legacy media, despite it becoming increasingly irrelevant, still has influence, and will turn JD Vance into the most racist and sexist person ever come election season.

I think Newsom understands he can't make the same mistake Biden did and openly say that he's picking his VP based on race and gender but he will inevitably pick a Latino/Hispanic man to get back those votes Trump took from the Democrats.

With regard to Kamala and the chatter of a run for governor or another presidential bid (clearly promoted by MAGA), if we learned anything from HRC, is that once you lose to a profoundly stupid cartoon caricature of a humanoid like Trump, there is a flashing neon sign on your forehead for the rest of your life that blares LOSER.

Harris wouldn't survive the primary for any office at any level.
