Newsom always steps up when it's needed, I love him for that and other things

Minimum wage across the state of CA is $16.90. That pencils out to $35k and some change or $2,929 a month for a full time employee. Per AI the threshold for a single person to qualify for medi-cal is $1,836. Cortese' math in paragraph 3 doesn't seem to be mathing.
DiabloWags

Yes, eligibility for Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program, is primarily determined by income, with households needing to earn less than 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL).

The FPL in 2026 is $15,960 for a 1-person household.
138% = $22,024.80

But I dont believe Cortese is basing his argument solely on Medical eligibility for full-time employees.

PS. My brother works PT at Fed-Ex and pays $105 per month to the Company for his insurance. That's probably 10% of his medical, dental, and vision with a $1300 deductible.

"A cashier, warehouse worker, caregiver, food service employee or retail clerk works full time for a company worth hundreds of billions or even trillions of dollars. Yet because their wages are too low or employer-sponsored coverage is unaffordable, they qualify for Medi-Cal."

I read it opposite of you.

I also was able to read and comprehend the same language as you.

Im just saying that there might also be something at work here ((like GIG employees).

The Fair Share plan has made its way into the Budget Act of 2026 as a proposal for 2027.

Just change the columns to states in high demand because the weather and lifestyle are good vs. the opposite and you'd get 80% the same result.

The Golden State isn't for everyone.
You need to make a lot of money to live here.
But there is a good reason why Silicon Valley is in CA and nowhere else.

Thank You University of California for making dreams come true!

I enjoy visiting Southern Oregon very much. Can't speak to the rest of the state, but I enjoy my time when I'm there. I can't speak to what the issues are with living there though, but I definitely thought during our last visit that if for some reason I had to move from California, that area would be a nice alternative.

Would love to hear your thoughts on what made you want to leave.

Barely in time because of what exactly?

Can you be specific about what was having a material impact on you and your family?

I had neighbors who retired from Amgen a few years ago and bought a second home in Ashland, Oregon. They really loved the Shakespeare Theater Festival that runs for 7-months across three theaters and the cultural scene.

A year ago they sold their home here and moved up to Ashland permanently.

FYI

Ashland, Oregon, is a city in the Rogue Valley known for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Southern Oregon University, and its vibrant arts scene, nestled at the base of the Siskiyou and Cascade mountains near the California border. It's a cultural hub with galleries, theaters, and restaurants, attracting tourists with its outdoor recreation, including nearby Mt. Ashland Ski Park, Lithia Park, and access to the Rogue River. The city has a progressive, outdoorsy, and artistic character, with a history as a railroad and resort town that revitalized around its cultural institutions.

At the end of the day, I think it subjectively depends on where you live in CA or OR.
I live in the Diablo Valley where the scores below have literally zero correlation except for Affordability.

Criteria and Ranking for CA and OR:

Affordability: 50 / 44

Safety: 49 / 40

Economic Strength: 41 / 38

Healthcare / Education: 23 / 21

Quality of Life: 14 / 8

Imagine the picture if Newsom hadn't closed 3-4 prisons. More repeat felons locked up, safer streets, but less money for illegal immigrants.

Well, their new extravagant Capitol expansion includes private, secure entry / exits, so Democrat Socialists don't have to answer reporters questions after ridiculous votes.
