Is it my imagination or are a lot of the State Meet times getting faster the past couple of years?

Are we talking to Dean at DLS? Says he's class of 2028 and a receiver. Go Spartans.

Harris, the favorite to win the 100 meters, won his heat in a wind-legal 10.36, but three others were fractions faster in wind-aided times Elk Grove's Cy Lugo (10.20), Will Wood's Deshawn Seymour (10.34) and De La Salle's Damari Dean (10.34).

You are correct.
Across the board they are faster and farther.

The Girls HJ and PV were the only events I saw that were "down" this year.

Ive never seen 6 guys under 21 flat in the 200m.
Or 7 girls under 24 flat.

Never.

Yeah, I'm thinking of when Jahvid won the 100 and finished in a fast second place to Bryshon Nellum in the 200, they were saying that both those times ranked among the fastest ever in California (even Jahvid's 2nd). His time in the 100 was, what, 10.31? And now multiple guys seem to be running in the 10.1s.

I understand that times only come down over history, but any theories on this? Some discoveries in better training?

If my memory serves me right, Nellum ran 20.43 to Jahvid's 20.63

Nellum suffered a real bad hamstring injury his freshman year at 'SC.. Eight months later he was shot in the leg.

I worked the Pac 10 Championships in Berkeley in 2010 and brought Nellum his sweats and bag over to him after his race. He was so humble, unassuming, and polite .... almost to a fault.

As he sat on a massage table under a tent at the end of the finish line straight, I got a close up view of the bullet hole scars in his thigh - - - the result of a "drive by" shooting at 1:00 am while hanging out with his friends on the 'SC football team at a club on Halloween Night.

He eventually recovered and won Olympic Silver in London in 2012 and World Championship Gold in Beijeng in 2015. Both on 4x400m relay teams.

His 400m best was 44.73

His road has been a long winding one with "hiccups"along the way. When I met him that one day at Edward's, I walked away thinking I had met a truly incredible human being that was bound to achieve great things on or off the track.

Great story about how St. Ignatius Prep Senior Ellie McCuskey-Hay who is bound for OREGON wound up winning the State Long Jump after officials went back and checked the recording of her 20-03.5" jump.

They had incorrectly written down 20-03"
That 1/2 inch was EVERYTHING!
