That has always been the ethos since before the civil war. The south wanted to continue to own slaves not states rights bs . Only thing that has changed is dates on the calendar. And the north still choose white over being right and just. The new Democrats are racist in a different way. It's a cold dynamic at work.

I have made it clear that I'm not in the crowd that would exclude people based on color. With that reminder out of the way, the argument to support the notion these are not race based statements would be they are about skill level. We already have 10-50M low skill migrants in the country. Time to pause. Contrast with India and China - people of color - who would not be excluded but instead would be allowed to fill all those H1-B visas, etc.

This has always gone on. When waves of Irish, Italians and Greeks entered the country there was the same degree of xenophobia and even violence but the country could absorb them- labor was readily available- and they moved up, out and became Republicans. Things aren't so easy now, the border is no longer open and there is no social contract.

I don't think these were racial arguments. Most of our immigration comes from the third world. Immigration from Canada, the U.K., western Europe, Korea and Japan represent only 5-10% of our total immigration depending on what the illegal immigration numbers are.
