One could also make different arguments. How many career, violent criminals operate in DC. 300, 500, 1,000? Taking a chunk of those off the street changes the equation (if LEO and judiciary do their jobs); along with removing thousands of homeless; and emboldening law-abiding citizens. Young people, women, children being able to walk and play outside may embolden some to be more outspoken. Then one hooligan's actions stand out. Hooligan behavior isn't tolerated.
I agree two weeks isn't enough time for a deep enough impact, but I love seeing teenagers interact w NG troops - positive role models. I hope someone puts together trading cards w fun, informative bios. Interests, education, goals, hobbies of the NG on hand.
You appear to skip the #1 cause of extreme violence - the drug trade. Get that reduced. Get the Most Wanted off the streets.
Hopefully the reduction in crime will also reduce copy cat crimes. Maybe along w NG trading cards, they can do some mini clips on Instagram. I'm sure there are NG who are weightlifters, hoopsters, artists, grad students, unpublished authors, and some who have themselves been victims of crime. It still baffles me when kids in Potrero Hill haven't been to Ocean Beach. There's a whole world out there. Set up chess meets, free throw shooting contests, book club, etc., w city services and NG.
