I think the issue for MAGA is whether this sort of activity is sustainable? Highly doubtful. By no means an expert on national guard budgeting but if most are on 2 weeks a year contracts with some weekend training how in the heck could you rotate through enough troops to surge like this?

We should appreciate that, for now, DC DOES seem better. But 2 weeks is not NEARLY enough data - in part because we would really want to take measure once the town "reopens" next week with Congress back in session. If (I do) we believe that property crimes are crimes of opportunity, when you have 1/2 of your workforce out on vacation it isn't rocket science to believe that crime would be down .

PS. The real problem here is the ticking time bomb. Most violence (especially police involved shootings) occur during periods of intense stress. Think domestic violence, vehicle stops, mental health crisis. Armed national guardsmen are NOT trained for such things. So the real **** that is going to hit the fan is when something bad happens. If you live in a metro urban area you know that is simple a function of days x population. That has to be the concern - that some poor NG is out on patrol and gets sucked into a situation they are ill trained for, it goes bad, and it is all caught on a video that ignites serious protest.

So the solution is . . . no black people?

Correct.
These troglodytes want no blacks, no hispanics, and not even Chinese products though they are often better and cheaper.

One could also make different arguments. How many career, violent criminals operate in DC. 300, 500, 1,000? Taking a chunk of those off the street changes the equation (if LEO and judiciary do their jobs); along with removing thousands of homeless; and emboldening law-abiding citizens. Young people, women, children being able to walk and play outside may embolden some to be more outspoken. Then one hooligan's actions stand out. Hooligan behavior isn't tolerated.

I agree two weeks isn't enough time for a deep enough impact, but I love seeing teenagers interact w NG troops - positive role models. I hope someone puts together trading cards w fun, informative bios. Interests, education, goals, hobbies of the NG on hand.

You appear to skip the #1 cause of extreme violence - the drug trade. Get that reduced. Get the Most Wanted off the streets.

Hopefully the reduction in crime will also reduce copy cat crimes. Maybe along w NG trading cards, they can do some mini clips on Instagram. I'm sure there are NG who are weightlifters, hoopsters, artists, grad students, unpublished authors, and some who have themselves been victims of crime. It still baffles me when kids in Potrero Hill haven't been to Ocean Beach. There's a whole world out there. Set up chess meets, free throw shooting contests, book club, etc., w city services and NG.

Street vendors appreciate the NG, who prompt local police to do their job.

Actually it is turf battles over the drug trade. When the distribution networks are stable violence goes down (even with the availability as measured by street price goes up).

The main issue with your 2 and 4th paragraphs get at why the NG is ill-equipped to do these things - their deployment as part time soldiers is likely ending in 2 weeks when another unit will have to be rotated in.

What this is showing is that if your city wants violent crime to stop it will stop. There has to be a will to end it. The entire point of having harsh punishments to crime is so the next person thinks before committing these reckless crimes. A lot of these liberal cities with these socialist DAs that are not enforcing laws at all and letting people out with zero bail is sending a message that taking things that aren't yours will incur no punishment so keep doing it. Also it led to cities hiding their crime statistics in order to keep getting federal funds and politically help their re-election campaigns by showing these totally fake crime statistics. They also told people that if they fight back against the criminals, it will be THEM that gets punished, so now you don't even have the public trying to stop crime.

Did I read that President Trump wants to pull Federal funds for states w no cash bail?

The City recording 30-odd homicides is a real outlier. Books cooked, or ... ??? The City is typically between 70 - 100 homicides per year.

It is actually a really interesting take and gets at some interesting ways of intervening to reduce violence.

Fun gun facts:

"Estimates suggest between 16 and 24.6 million Americans own AR-15-style rifles, with a total of 44 million AR-style rifles in civilian hands according to a Georgetown University study. This indicates that approximately 6% of the adult US population owns at least one AR-15-style rifle."
AI Overview

I just learned last night from a news story about the Guard in DC packing heat that the official Army sidearm since 2017 is the Sig Sauer M17:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_Sauer_M17

The prior Army sidearm was the Beretta M9 (1985-2017) which replaced the Colt M1911 (1911-1985).

In Oakland the preferred sidearm is a Glock with twin Cinnabons:

Beretta

We lead the world in shooting people but have to trust foreign gun makers? Trump should buy these- it's a national security issue

That's the classic move, right?

Once they've got the election infrastructure in place, they'll say they are trying to reduce inner city crime.
Then they'll start taking away people's guns in the inner cities where the violence occurs in large numbers.

They'll not bother doing so in white red districts. Whites will somehow think this is good because although they've railed against government limiting gun ownership for decades, they'll understand that it's not THEIR guns that are being taken away. They'll feel like they are getting a leg up, advantage, vs others - so it's okay. "As long as I'm winning, right?"
