Even the Governor of Utah said he was "one of ours"

It was poor choice of words on the governor's part because it could have been interpreted in several ways based on the context of his entire speech. Was he referring to U.S. citizens, Utah residents, Republicans, or MAGA?

Off course I wasn't suggesting Trump put Kimmel up to insulting him*so he could topple him over it. I suppose you needed to suggest I did so that you could launch your typically arrogant insult….but yes, I do believe the strong possibility exists that it was Trump's idea to have Sinclair extort a large "personal donation" from Kimmel to Kirk's family and organization in exchange for going back on air. Extortion is Trump's MO:

Columbia University: After freezing $400 million in research funding, the Trump administration struck a deal with Columbia in July 2025. Columbia agreed to pay a fine of over $200 million and make policy changes that included more government oversight.

Brown University: Also in July 2025, Brown agreed to pay $50 million to workforce development programs in Rhode Island to unfreeze its federal funding.

Harvard University: In August 2025, the White House threatened to seize research patents from Harvard, which were worth hundreds of millions of dollars. A potential settlement involving a $500 million payment was being negotiated.

UCLA: Citing the Brown and Columbia settlements, Governor Gavin Newsom of California and other state officials accused the Trump administration of "extortion" over a reported demand for $1 billion from the University of California system.

Tech company deal: In 2025, the Trump administration was reported to have given licenses for Nvidia and AMD to sell AI chips in China, but only after the companies agreed to give the federal government a 15% cut of the sales

Law firms:
Trump has extorted hundreds of millions of dollars from law firms if they do not want to be targeted by his retaliatory executive orders:

Nine law firms pledged a total of nearly $1 billion in pro bono legal services to avoid sanctions. Notable examples include:
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison: Pledged $40 million in legal work.

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom: Committed $100 million in legal work.

A&O Shearman: Committed $125 million in legal services.

You asked me to post a meme? Here, this one's for you:

*The thing that actually made Trump throw a clot was that Kimmel's bit mocked Trump's lack of empathy (Kirk said empathy is a new age invention, not a real thing) as demonstrated by Trump's awkward segue from talking about Kirk to his new ballroom.

The other late night guys aren't funny either, but Kimmel gives some sleazy vibes. One of his closest friends was part of Epstein's inner circle.

Tired format, sluggish ratings, they were probably just looking for an excuse to dump him.

The problem is all those ABC affinities said they wouldn't play his show, which forced ABC hands. And they won't reinstate Kimmel until the affiliates change their mind. Once the affiliates get past that, and Kimmel is reinstated, Kimmel likely gets a rating bump that is worthless for attracting the advertisers he will lose for such a high profile statement.

And then there is that they need FCC approvals for stuff, and the FCC is pissed, but they will get over that in time.
There is a long term issue of late night viability, and even Kimmel was saying Late Night TV in its current format is doomed.

Some interesting hypocrisy at play here, after Trump's denial of the 2020 election results when governmental authorities, including GOP local government officials saying the election results were valid.

To my knowledge, the FCC didn't take or threaten action against those on TV who perpetuated Trump's vision of that election. But libs were furious about anyone who perpetrated Trump's 2020 election denial, which they said were obviously fraudulent. Now we have the Governor of Utah, the FBI, the Utah police, and anyone else that has involved in the investigation saying that accused acted because of Kirk's views on hatred of certain people and that he lead a "very, very online, Internet-focused life, heavily steeped in gaming and left leaning subcultures." (Apparently there are plenty of dark right places on the Internet for "MAGA types" and he wasn't there). Now who isn't believing what the government is saying?

Then there in the charging order filed by the Utah DOJ that sets out the accused own words to his trans lover and in the internet world. He admits the killing and that he was motivated by Kirk's hatred. Kirk's anti-trans rhetoric would suggest a high-profile acts of violence tied to a single personal grievance from a man in love with a trans person. The charging order suggests Robinson shot a Kirk based on more than just that just that one issue.

And importantly, no where has there been any evidence to suggest that the accused was motived by some sort of MAGA supporting vision or in anyway supported MAGA. What Kimmel is said is baseless and looks a whole lot like what Donald Trump supports did in 2020. The irony is delicious, and I expect some biting commentary from Anarchistbear.

1. I bet the abc affiliates you refer to in your opening were rounded up by Trump affiliates. It took a while and once they had a large enough number, they went to ABC. It was a strategic hit job that had nothing to do with what Kimmel said. Kimmel says worse about Trump with regularity.

2. Kimmel did not say Tyler Robinson was a rightie. He said MAGA is trying to do whatever it can to make sure everyone knows he wasn't a rightie. There's a difference, and the point has some distinction.

3. You think Kimmel will be back on ABC? I don't.

4. I don't think it's equal to compare kimmel's comments to what Trump said about election fraud. Or what FoxNews/Newsmax/etc said about rigged elections and election fraud and who actually won.
They are different parties professionally and different subject matter of vastly differing import.

1. TDS strikes again, Trump is more powerful than God and everywhere taking over ABC and its affiliates. Tom you say a lot sheet without any factual support. Number 1 just another example. Just go back to some of the conspiratorially things you said about who killed Kirk in another thread, that make you look like loony tunes. Got any other conspiracies you can share with us?

2. MAGA doesn't need to say it. All the investigative government authorities are saying it as does the media. Having you even read the guys internet postings that are out there in the media. For him to infer that Robinson was a MAGA head was stupid.

3. Yea, I think he is back. ABC and its affiliates will wait until this blows over. They don't want to invest more money in another Late Night host. What he said was stupid in view of the current hyper-sensitive environment, but it really wasn't that bad. It is pretty obvious to anyone not name Dajo what the shooter's motive were and I'm sure Trump will take advantage of that, so from that perspective Kimmel had a point - albeit a poorly stated one. And in terms of number 4, liberal hypocrisy will become a recurring theme.

4. Not my problem that you can't see the hypocrisy.

Who was president in 2018?

Bob Iger

Apology accepted.

One wasn't offered.

Okay, so let's recap: "the administration" did not actually get Roseanne fired, because the administration at the time was Trump's and they wouldn't have done it. When you refer to "the president" you are referring to the CEO of Disney at the time, Bob Iger. So Disney made a business decision in that case without pressure from the existing government, correct?

So this is in fact totally different from the current situation when the existing government clearly did exert pressure to have Kimmel taken off the air, right?

yeah...why would Bob Iger defend Valerie Jarret?

When did he do that? Roseanne got canceled because of public criticism over her remarks about Jarrett being racist. You can disagree with that criticism, but it wasn't direct pressure from the government as it was for Kimmel.

You seem overly angry. So now you want to move on to penalties. Tom and you see conspiracies everywhere.

You do know that large fines is how colleges or other entities are penalized when the don't follow Federal requirements? A lot of this was the government using massive fines to push agendas. For example, consent degrees against schools like Cal for violating what many lawyers considered overreaching and illegal Title 9 anti-sexual harassment claims under new Title 9 regulations which have since been withdrawn.

You seem to think that going after colleges for DEI being discriminatory or anti-semitism actions is somehow different because I assume you disagree with either premise. BTW with respect to several of these schools like UCLA and Harvard, federal judges have ruled that the colleges in fact violated federal law by allowing or participating in anti-semitism and plaintiffs have received awards). I don't agree with Trump Administration regarding cutting research and many aspects of what and how they are doing this, but going after and fining schools is a pretty common practice.

The law firm stuff offends me, and I think it shows bias, but again that is what the government does when it goes after a business. It fines and obtains concessions in practices.

There were plenty of times in my law practice of dealing with the federal government where my clients were being penalized or fined for who they were. For example, I represented a CA State entity that got crapped on when a certain political party was in power. Nothing in this is new.

Other than your personal biases do you have anything to prove pressure was put on the ABC affiliates by the Trump administration (as opposed to outraged viewers), and what exactly that pressure was?

Tell me, who was president when Roseanne got fired?

Obama's buddy

Article dated May 29, 2018.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/29/business/media/roseanne-barr-offensive-tweets.html

Looks like Roseanne is trying to rewrite history.

Roseanne Barr lost her rebooted sitcom Roseanne on ABC in May 2018 after posting a racist tweet.

She compared Valerie Jarretta former senior adviser to President Barack Obamato the "Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes." The tweet drew immediate backlash as racist and demeaning.

ABC responded quickly:
Within hours, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey announced the show was canceled, calling Barr's tweet "abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values."
Barr later deleted the tweet and apologized, saying it was a "bad joke."
She also claimed she was under the influence of Ambien when she wrote it, though the drug manufacturer publicly rejected that excuse.

This controversy not only ended the revival of Roseanne but also caused her castmates and crew to publicly distance themselves. ABC later retooled the show without her, renaming it The Conners.

unrelated to above (sorry / not sorrrrry)..
> Greta Thunberg's words at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019 still resonate with a haunting urgency. She said, "I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act. How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words." Thunberg framed climate change not merely as an environmental issue but as a profound moral crisis. Her words highlight the injustice of a world where the young and the vulnerable bear the heaviest burden for the choices of the powerful. In Pakistan, this injustice is tragically visible...

Why TDS? How about just owning it and admitting that Trump is doing anti Democratic stuff but since it is in the name of winning the Culture War that pits Good vs Evil, it is justifiable?

I guess they don't really believe that. Perhaps Trump thinks most people are fundamentally decent and if he was above board about his conduct many would object.

For instance, why did Trump disavow Project 2025 in the run up to the Election when he is basically going through it now checking all its boxes as "Completed?" Did he think decent people wouldn't be in favor of it?

Everyone figures out Trump f@ucked them sooner or later. It has been delayed because in Trump I, he had guardrail hires in the Administration that talked him out of the whacky stuff. Now he is surrounded by an Administration that is giving him handies under the table during pressies. This time around it is going to dawn on a significant number of his flock that they "done been had" like so many Trump University enrollees.

Barrack Obama hasn't been this upset since CBS decided to take Stephen Colbert off the air.

At what point in the Trump regime will you be this upset?
Truly. Please ask yourself.
Because I submit it's coming. So draw a line in the sand, and then when it's crossed you'll be able to say "Oh dear".

If all you ever do is banter with the likes of me, and that is your habit, you'll not be able to recognize when your line is crossed. LineS. ARE.

I am nothing but a voice of reason deep inside your head. Will you listen to this line of decency, legality, morality, democracy in your own head?

3A.
Okay, we can remember this.
How about 6 months I'll wait until I get to start calling you dumb. You can continue to call me dumb starting immediately.

3B. Glad you agree that what he said wasn't that bad.

3C. I do laugh at you. "I didn't vote for him," you say. Okay, sure, that's believable. I mean what kind of idiot would?

But then you've carried on here for such a long time in ripping "liberals", pulling up TDS insults, and defending MAGA talking points.

I mean, you blame those of us who hate Trump for getting elected, yet you are frequently shown here defending that faction and insulting its opposition. And you then accuse hypocrisy.

It's humorous! You are humorous, typical rich, snobbish, MAGA material.
But then, hey, we can't all live in Dana Point and have a second home in Henderson. Do you file your taxes from there, too? You're skilled in accounting ways - smart enough to figure that out. And where's your third house, anyways?

Tom, I find people like you as the reason why we have Trump as President, You folks are like the boy who cried wolf and lose credulity at some point. Then the references to Hitler and over the top TDR result in voter reaction going the other way. You also don't have a clue about me (Dana Point?) , but alas I will be back to you when I have more time on each of your points.

Sorry, the prompt was this:

It was not that long ago that conservative voices were being cancelled, censored, fired, and ridiculed.

So I'll ask more clearly:

Provide for me examples of conservative voices being cancelled, censored, fired, and ridiculed.

I want to understand the grievances y'all carry.

2. MAGA doesn't need to say it. All the investigative government authorities are saying it as does the media. Having you even read the guys internet postings that are out there in the media. For him to infer that Robinson was a MAGA head was stupid.

2.
You need to do a better job at reading literacy of what I said. And of what Kimmel did and didn't say. You answered as if he and I said something we did not. But I don't care to parse words like an English mark with you.
No I haven't read government documents. But I don't need to to understand Kimmel's words.

That is his SOP with me as well. I guess it's a lawyer thing.
