This war has been very costly for Iran... but they ain't givin' up because they pretty much have us over a barrel (of oil!).

What's the latest, Trump wants to try the-mother-of-all-international-sanctions against Iran? Oops, he has pretty much alienated most of our allies. They're unlikely to do what he suggests now, why should they? They're getting a good chuckle out of this, lately, no doubt. At our expense.

We're low on ammo/missiles and fresh out of ideas. No end in sight. And Trump's bored of the whole mess.

Iran has absolutely no leverage. They do not have us over a barrel. Trump's not bored, he's out waiting Iran which is exactly why Iran has no leverage.

Iran has no leverage? The Strait of Hormuz is 90% shut down.

You are correct.

Iran has no leverage? The Strait of Hormuz is 90% shut down. Iran knows darn well what our missile-and-ammo situation is. They know darn well that we don't want to send in ground forces. And, unfortunately for the Iranian people, their government doesn't give a s*** about them, so if we bomb them some more, they could give a crap.

Nobody with any credibility whatsoever -- left, right, doesn't matter -- thinks this is going well for the US. We're just "lucky" it's happening thousands of miles from our borders (but that will change when they send some terrorists over here).

It's not 90% shut down and they have lost their primary source of income. They are dead in the water and have absolutely not leverage over this situation. They know they are screwed economically and have no shot of any win in this war.

I'm not saying Iran is doing well; their military has been degraded and they have suffered major losses. Why, look at those two schools we took out! But it's an asymmetric war: the definitions of what constitutes winning and losing are different for them than it might be for us. It's like in Vietnam, when we thought we were winning based on body count, but North Vietnam thought winning was surviving to be able to fight another day.

I'm not basing this on body count. I'm basing this on economic factors. Iran has no ability to survive this without capitulation. We do. That's not Iran winning. That's not Iranian leverage.

I can't speak for you, but I suspect that many Republican types who are still saying they support this war would not be saying it if the President was a Democrat. Any chance this applies to you, as well? Please take a moment to reflect before answering. It is a normal tendency to back "your guy" instead of admitting he's wrong. I'm sure I have done that myself.

Who are some knowledgeable folks who don't seem totally partisan who are saying this war is going well for us?

There is only so much that can be done with bombing. We have learned this repeatedly. Do we, at some point, send in ground troops? Gosh, we're getting closer and closer to the mid-term elections.

I am no fan of Iran. Whatsoever. I'm guessing that about half their citizens can't stand their repressive regime, but are just laying low so they don't get jailed or killed by the IRG. However, I don't see us as winning too many "hearts and minds" over there lately.

This has been a terrible move by Trump from the very beginning. Done for little reason, with little forethought.

I wish Trump didn't go to war. I've said this before here. I cannot change the fact that he did. I understand his reasoning but still would have chosen to avoid the war all together. Now that we are in the war, I almost fully support what has been done so far. We decimated their military, cut off their main supply of income, and created a stranglehold on their economy. All without putting boots on the ground. Iran's subsidiary groups are in shambles. Iran's economy is in shambles. Iran is holding on by a thread.
