We are no better off than we were 6-months ago.
The MOU is dead. There is no off ramp for Trump.

Umer Karim, a researcher at the University of Birmingham, said the problem is the goal posts have moved and progress will depend on one side caving to the other's interpretation of the deal.

"The old MOU is essentially dead in all aspects," he said. "The task of the mediators to have the two sides reach some sort of a compromise have become even more difficult in the current circumstances."

Iran Talks Sputter as Trump Spurns a Return to His June Deal - WSJ

Iran is already caving, the walls are falling down around them. I love that Trump is "waiting" this out. Economic pressure will likely cause the last few dominoes to fall.

I love it, too!!! A lesser President than Donald J Trump would have tried to finish up this war at least a few months before the midterm elections. Fortunately, President Trump prioritizes "doing the right thing for the American people and the world" above petty political considerations! GOP lawmakers in swing districts need to understand this!

He definitely isn't TACOing.

This war has been very costly for Iran... but they ain't givin' up because they pretty much have us over a barrel (of oil!).

What's the latest, Trump wants to try the-mother-of-all-international-sanctions against Iran? Oops, he has pretty much alienated most of our allies. They're unlikely to do what he suggests now, why should they? They're getting a good chuckle out of this, lately, no doubt. At our expense.

We're low on ammo/missiles and fresh out of ideas. No end in sight. And Trump's bored of the whole mess.

Iran has absolutely no leverage. They do not have us over a barrel. Trump's not bored, he's out waiting Iran which is exactly why Iran has no leverage.

You're joking, right?

Iran has ALL the leverage.

Militarily, they have Escalation Dominance over both Israel AND the U.S.

Iran has either partially or completely destroyed all U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf area.

Israel is running low on interceptor missiles, to the point of rationing them.

Iran continues to produce its ballistic & hypersonic missiles; they had tens of thousands remaining when the MOU was approved in June.

Iran isn't dependent on the Straits for its survival. The Gulf States, like Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, are dependent on the Straits for their oil income.

Iran has plenty of trade routes & trading partners over land that the U.S. sea blockade (such as it is) don't touch.

**: The U.S. Strategic Oil Reserve will be exhausted within days. When it runs out, crude prices & gasoline prices in the U.S. will explode. The draining of the U.S. Strategic Oil Reserve, and the ensuing Global Financial Crisis, are the key factors that prompted Trump to agree to the MOU in June. He said he did it to prevent "bedlam."

It was Israel that adamantly refused to accept Item #1 in the MOU, which required Israel to pull their troops from S Lebanon.

No. MTG's comments are accurate. The Trump administration has been discussing the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Iran, because that's the only way for either the U.S. or Israel to defeat Iran militarily.

Israel will not tolerate the continued existence of another nation that is capable of destroying it. U.S. participation in the war against Iran continues because Israel demands that the U.S. destroy Iran -- and if the U.S. doesn't do it, Israel will.

Many very knowledgeable experts in U.S. military, weaponry, arms control, & foreign relations have been echoing the same concerns -- that Trump & his administration have been actively discussing the use of tactical nuclear weapons against Iran.

These discussions often assume that IF the U.S. or Israel (or Saudi Arabia, in the role of nuclear "hit man") strike Iran with any nuclear weapon, Russia, China, Pakistan, and/or N Korea would respond with a nuclear attack against the United States, or Israel, or both.

Putin & the Russian Federation revamped their entire nuclear protocol in response to the U.S. provocations from the Biden administration. Russia has all of its nukes on full hair-trigger alert. At the first evidence of a 1st strike from either U.S., EU, or Ukraine, Russia lets 'em fly with an effective "dead man's switch". The decision has already been made. This change in Russia's status has not been reported in Western media.

There is no scenario in which either the U.S. or Israel use a nuclear weapon of any kind without a catastrophic conventional or nuclear response from one or more of the BRICS nations. That ship has sailed.

Whoever breaks the nuclear taboo will end human civilization on earth.

It's a deflection by Trump before the midterms, "peace is at hand," the war will be over soon; plus sanctions don't grab headlines like death . But he should just declare victory end sanctions and walk away. They are just pretending the war is being fought differently, but it's not, Iran survives and this also fails.

Pre-war average oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was 17M barrels per day, so an average daily traffic of 6.5Mbpd is only about 38% of normal, hardly something that should be trumpeted as a success.

Quote:

Before the war, an average of about 100 ships (roughly 95 to 100 vessels) passed through the Strait of Hormuz each day, carrying roughly one-fifth (about 20%) of the world's petroleum and liquefied natural gas exports. More than half of this pre-war daily traffic consisted of oil tankers, moving around 17 million barrels of crude oil per day from Gulf producers. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Some of the oil has been shipped through pipelines to the Red Sea and Indian Ocean terminals, but not nearly enough to compensate for the 62% daily deficit accumulated over the last several months.

Oil prices have been kept below $100 through intensive drawings from the SPR and through the manipulation of the oil futures markets, but that is not a sustainable proposition.

Perhaps they might have been restrained in going all out and shutting all traffic by one of their main sponsors, China. We'll have some answers in September.

You're measuring success against regime change, which was never an official objective, and complete nuclear disarmament, which is broader than Trump's stated goal of preventing an Iranian bomb. Iran's military, naval and proxy capabilities have been substantially degraded, so claiming "nothing was achieved" is absolutely overstated.

Regime change was never an official U.S. war objective. Trump encouraged Iranians to challenge their government, but when initially explaining the campaign he identified preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon and degrading its missile program, not overthrowing the regime.

In June, July, and August, and before, Trump said we already won the war.

He was correct. Time was still needed but the war is over and has been.

And yet Trump hasn't achieved any goals involving regime change or nuclear disarmament.
The goalposts kept getting moved to the point where there is no winning.

I'm afraid you're terribly mistaken.
Regime change was clearly an official objective.

Trump says new call for regime change in Iran justified by 'imminent threats' to US - ABC News

Trump Talks Regime Change in Iran After Strikes, But History Shows That Could be Very Hard

Trump definitely talked about it, but it's an open question which of his ramblings count as "official policy."

He's repeatedly moved the goalposts and your guess is as good as anyone's as to which one of his RAMBLINGS on Truth Social count as "official" policy.

This is what he said on April 1st.
As opposed to what a previous poster claimed he said in his first public press conference on Iran on March 3rd.

"We've had regime change," Trump said. "If you look already because the one regime was decimated, destroyed. They're all dead. The next regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we're dealing with different people than anybody's dealt with before. It's a whole different group of people. So I would consider that regime change."

What you just posted shows he didn't say it was his goal, he said it happened.
