The Democratic Party vets their milquetoast, genocide-loving, war supporting, affordable health-care opposing, Orange Man Bad candidates that they install as the preferred candidate. There was no such process for Platner because the Democrats never wanted him to run in the first place. It's risible that you pretend there wasn't plenty of smearing that was going on long before the Democratic primary. It just wasn't working because nobody wanted Mills. Put up another person with the same platform, but less baggage and less cosplaying as a working class person and I'm sure that person would have trounced Mills too if they had any personality and could convince people that they had the conviction of believing in that platform instead of just pretending they do the way most Democrat faux progressives do.

AIPAC and the Republicans clearly held the best stuff back until after the primary. And it's not even really all that great to be honest. They had Swalwell dead to rights, whereas this stuff is a lot sketchier.

But the real lesson from all of this is that if you support the pro-corporate pro-war agenda that most Democrats support, the media will run interference for you and make it much harder for this stuff to gain traction (just look at how long and how hard they defended Mario Cuomo and then still tried to rehabilitate him to prevent Mamdani winning). But once you start talking Medicare For All and no foreign wars, then the attack dogs come at you with their full might.
