When we poured my mother's ashes into the ocean five months after her death, I adopted this speech for the occasion. Fortunately, my family isn't worried about virtue signaling about who is the most somber or who is the saddest. Doesn't mean I don't miss her and it doesn't mean I don't still sometimes get sad realizing she's gone.



Afterwards, we had a family dinner and the unlikeliest person in our group sad something so incredibly funny that our bellies ached from laughing so hard at it (it had nothing to do with my mother).
