Katie Porter wants to be California's next Governor, she is melting down during a local TV Interview.

On-air meltdowns are her shtick.

A ham sandwich will win in CA, but this politician has no future beyond that, what a disaster. It's amazing how bad the political system has been in producing decent candidates.

We have had some, the latest being Larry Elder, who never had a prayer. The Dems have it pretty well rigged, including the media and nearly all the capital they will ever need.

They should have less money now that Trump stopped USAID from embezzling money from taxpayers to Democrat campaigns.

Have you ever considered that your party is a fraud and the good people of California has figured that out?

She seemed fairly talented as a House candidate coming out of OC, but it's been one big flop since she tried to go statewide. Maybe should have stuck around in the House a bit longer.

The fact that Larry Elder rose to the top of the Republican field in the recall election is exactly why Republicans can't win in California. Completely unserious.

Do most French prefer to add condiments like mustard, mayo, or butter to their ham sandwiches?
Seems dry with just the ham and baguet.

Maybe a bit of Dijon mustard, but always with butter, and lots of it. Usually if you start with a quality baguette, ham and a decent amount of salted butter, it's a solid meal on the go and if it seems dry you can always wash it off with a bottle of pinot...

We should organize a BI field trip to find out! But let's not leave out the most important condiment:

"Jambon Beurre avec beaucoup de Ketchup, s'il vous plait!"

The ketchup tastes better in France, not sure if it's the real sugar vs HFCS or the tomato paste.

If it is France, the sweet flavor will be real sugar. You can bet on it.

I was in Paris once, and I was suffering with a cold. I went looking for Vitamin C in some vitamin shops. All the vitamin products I saw had sugar in them. They even advertised it.

No Republican right now is a threat to win in California, or in any big California city. There must be some other reason the LA Times chose to attack him in a racist way. Maybe they just don't like him being on the airwaves, because he is different from them.

Larry Elder was such a threat to the left, the LA Times published a racist op-ed to attack him and called him, "the black face of white supremacy."

"Conservative talk radio host and political commentator Larry Elder has been associated with several significant controversies throughout his career, particularly during his role as a leading Republican candidate in the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election and his subsequent 2024 presidential campaign. These controversies primarily stem from his public statements, political views, and personal conduct allegations.

Comments and Stances on Women
Elder has faced widespread criticism for a long history of comments and written statements concerning women.

Intelligence and Politics: In a 2000 column, Elder wrote that "Women know less than men about political issues, economics, and current events," a view he later defended by citing an academic study.

Sexual Harassment: Elder has minimized the impact of sexual harassment, stating in a book that "Smart women simply overlook some boorish behavior by men". During a 2011 radio show, he made disparaging comments about the appearances of certain women, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, suggesting a lack of attractiveness could be a defense against sexual assault accusations, comments that critics called "indefensible".

Workplace Discrimination: He has been criticized for past writings that reportedly endorsed pregnancy discrimination, suggesting that working mothers are not sufficiently "dedicated" to their careers.

Domestic Violence Statistics: On his personal website in the early 2000s, Elder maintained a page that cited articles claiming statistics on violence against women were exaggerated by feminists to gain political power.

Views on Race and Racism
As a Black conservative, Elder's comments on race have also been a major source of controversy, drawing sharp criticism from civil rights groups and some commentators who have labeled him "the Black face of white supremacy" for his views.

Systemic Racism: Elder frequently denies the existence of systemic racism in the United States, arguing that Black leaders promote a "victim mentality" that harms the Black community.

Police Brutality: He has claimed that studies show police are "more hesitant" to shoot Black suspects than white ones, an assertion that is generally not supported by most research on the subject. He also blamed former President Barack Obama for the deaths of Black men in police encounters, arguing Obama should have encouraged greater compliance with police.

Affirmative Action: Although he has acknowledged that affirmative action facilitated his acceptance into Brown University, he opposes such policies, arguing they do more harm than good by placing some minority students in environments where they struggle to keep up.

Personal Allegations
Gun Incident: In 2021, a report from Politico and the Los Angeles Times detailed allegations from Elder's former fiance, Alexandra Datig, that during a heated argument in 2015, Elder retrieved a gun, checked if it was loaded, and put it away, though she did not claim he pointed it at her. Elder vehemently denied the specific allegation of brandishing a weapon, calling it "beneath him" to dignify with a response.

Financial and Emotional Abuse: Datig also accused Elder of controlling her finances and subjecting her to verbal and emotional abuse during their 18-month relationship, allegations Elder did not directly address.

Other Political and Policy Views
Elder's libertarian policy positions have also been controversial in a generally liberal-leaning state like California.

Minimum Wage and Regulation: He opposes the minimum wage and supports deregulation, arguing that a government that "governs less governs best".

Climate Change: He has dismissed climate change as a "crock" in the past, though he later shifted his stance, claiming "nobody really knows to what degree" humans cause climate change.

Immigration: He has drawn criticism for his use of the term "illegal alien" and opposition to expanding healthcare access to undocumented immigrants."

I think a Republican who preached economic stability and law & order while ignoring the culture-war stuff would at least have an outside shot at winning if the public were in a position to be angry enough at the Democratic incumbent (you could argue that Newsom was in such a position post-French Laundry). Call it the Schwarzenegger approach.

The problem with Elder is that he leaned into the culture war quite heavily. Also that he was a radio host with no real experience and nowhere near the celebrity of Arnold. But other than that, great pick!

Letitia James based her entire campaign and term in office on getting President Trump. Ironically, a federal grand jury just indicted her for the same crime she tried to pin on Trump. Imagine that.
