Seems like a tragic accident. But I know I don't have the full story here so I'm willing to wait and see. Giving my opinion here. Should the guy be dead, no, probably not. Was this guy scaring the heck out of everybody, sounds like he was. Should this guy have been out on the streets in the first place? Sounds like no. This is the same kind of things police many times have to deal with and make split second decisions, then we come down hard on the entire police force and neuter them if they make a mistake. Then they don't really try to do their jobs anymore because they're more worried about making a mistake than saving a person, be that a person with mental health problems or the victims inevitably create.
I saw a high school wrestler do nearly the same thing to a man trying to attack a woman and her children that were locked in a bathroom. The perp survived till the police got there.
Maybe if we weren't so callous toward others, focused instead on low tax rates, collecting our own, leaving insufficient social services for the needy, be it the mentally ill or the homeless.

We've spent Trillions upon Trillions on the War on Poverty with mixed results and little insight. Who is in prison? I'm told 80% can't read, and 80% didn't have a Father.
Mentally ill - if they can't take their meds, why aren't there humane mental institutions?
Homeless appear to be a large percentage drug users, and vagabonds. Homeless is mostly a misnomer. Europe solved the problem according to Democrat Michael Shellenberger (author of San Fransicko). This is a tough mental block for some Liberals bc they see drugs as a life choice, harmless, etc. Meanwhile, the open southern border allows the cartels to smuggle in hard, cheap drugs, which cause more despair.
Locally, Progressives in California refuse to toughen sentences for selling fentanyl bc of their pro drug stances, and desires to close nine more prisons (4 in the process of closing down). Closing prisons has an added bonus to Democrats - more $$$$ to play with for global warming, social experiments, teachers unions, etc. So they won't toughen laws and enforcement against a very deadly drug which has killed thousands.
