Hope you're safe and all other SoCal Bears are safe.

I drove up there over the weekend and went on a hike. I am miles away now, and the folks I know that lived there now live in Calabasas or L.A.'s westside. Yes, certainly hope the fire is contained.

We still haven't heard from frequent poster Dimitrig since the late stages of the LA fire, his house was in an area affected by the LA fire. Hope he's OK!

Thank goodness the bystander took action. Some friends in Bend said they'd never heard so many sirens in their lives.

Something is weird about this, I mean I'm glad there was an armed civy there to stop it, but in Central Oregon people aren't just walking around strapped. I don't think I've ever seen somebody open carry here that wasn't law enforcement. Strange set of occurrence for a guy to just happened to be walking by there and armed. Terrible loss of young lives, and it could have been worse.

I can't vouch for the trustworthiness of this website, but here's a Go Fund Me like account that's been set up for the family that lost their 5 year old boy in the school shooting. So far it's raised almost $13,000 of the $20,000 goal. People have also signed up to bring them meals most days for the next month.

The guy in this video had his truck shot numerous times by the shooter. He's lucky to be alive.

Judge threatens Donald Trump with sanctions.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjolique A. Lett in Miami issued a warning threatening to sanction Donald Trump for failing to sit for a mandatory deposition in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC.

The Context: The judge noted that Trump failed to participate as ordered, stating that future non-compliance will trigger formal sanctions.

amazing if a judge could do that, and make it stick, or that our savior for life King Donald would let the slight pass.

Very patient, methodical, composed, and gritty.

Only their second year as a franchise and are in the FINALS!

Twelve people died in the fire, which destroyed more than 6,800 homes and buildings and injured four people, including one firefighter. More than 23,000 acres were burned.

Yes. The Palisades Fire ultimately killed 12 people. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's records identify them as:

Victim Age Where
Charles Mortimer 84 Pacific Palisades / hospital
Randall Miod 55 Malibu
Annette Rossilli 85 Pacific Palisades
Betty O'Meara 94 Malibu
Arthur Simoneau 69 Topanga
Mark Shterenberg 80 Pacific Palisades
Jeffrey Takeyama 69 Malibu
Rory Sykes 32 Malibu
Marilyn Hamilton 71 Pacific Palisades
Diana Webb 82 Malibu
Elizabeth Morgan 79 Pacific Palisades
Hak Wong 69 Hospital

One correction to the information you quoted: the final death toll was 12 in the Palisades Fire, not 9. The overall January 2025 L.A. fire disaster eventually reached 30 direct deaths12 in the Palisades Fire and 18 in the Eaton Fire.

A few of these people had particularly notable stories. Rory Sykes, 32, was a former British child actor who had cerebral palsy and was blind. Mark Shterenberg was a former NASA/JPL engineer. Arthur Simoneau was a longtime hang-glider pilot. Randall Miod was a well-known Malibu surfer/community figure.

And Marilyn Hamilton is the name that is easy to miss in lists compiled early in the disaster: her remains were found in Pacific Palisades, and she was later identified as the 71-year-old victim associated with case 2025-00923.

Except, I recall he was in the Altadena Fire area. So I'll look that up

Yes. I checked the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's records because the 19th victim was discovered much later.

The 19 people who died in the Eaton Fire were:

# Victim Age
1 Victor Shaw 66
2 Rodney Nickerson 82
3 Anthony Mitchell Sr. 68
4 Erliene Louise Kelley 83
5 Evelyn McClendon 59
6 Zhi Feng Zhao 84
7 Justin Mitchell 40
8 Carolyn Burns 56
9 Dalyce Curry 95
10 Edwin Cridland 94
11 Oswald Altmetz 75
12 Kimberly (Kim) Winiecki 77
13 Miva Wheatley Friedli 86
14 Patricia McKenna 77
15 Stacey Darden 54
16 Lora Swayne 71
17 Barbara Lewis 84
18 Kevin Devine 54
19 Unidentified Doe #431

The Medical Examiner's official list confirms the first 18 names and identifies the 19th as Unidentified Doe #431, case 2025-11669.

The unusual 19th case

This is particularly interesting. The remains of Doe #431 were found July 21, 2025, more than six months after the fire, at the 10 block of La Venezia Court. The county still had not publicly identified the person when it announced the discovery.

There was a 74-year-old man named Juan Francisco Espinoza who neighbors said lived alone with his dogs on that block and had been missing since the fire. The L.A. Times reported the apparent connection, but officials did not confirm that the remains were Espinoza's, so I would not count him as identified.

And as of August 2026, the county still describes the Eaton Fire as having 19 fatalities.

If you'd like, I can also give you a short story about each of the 19 peoplewho they were, where they lived, and what is known about how each died.

Some kind of explosion at Canadian Military base in Wainwright, Alberta Canada.
Not a lot of information available but multiple casualties. Seems like a LOT of casualties though but a lot of information is being hidden. One of the guests on this video said that the RCMP investigating may suggest it may not be an accident.
