Obama kind of took a swipe at Kap by saying the way to protest is to vote. Kap believes not voting is also a form of protest. On that issue I'm throwing my lot in with the Harvard Law guy instead of the guy that could never see the second receiver. However, anything that causes stress to the orange tub of guts I am ok with.

So, i occasionally hear Shocky references on BI. I don't really know the whole reputation, but can someone please tell me how this photo, which I had to put my thumb over at the gym (thank you Bearister!), conjures up his memory?

Hehe. Thanks for that, MC. Dang, you broke it down on a molecular level. Sounds like a more complex antecedent of CalStrong. Appreciate the deep, theory-laden dive into this bit of BI history.

Bill (last name known but possibly never exposed by himself) lived in Scottsdale today, but went to Cal. He's in his 50's. 3 kids. Grew up in SF, caddied and became a big golf guy later in life. Traveled the world to golf all the major courses and is on a list of those having completed the list of top 100 courses. It's a short list. Not sure how he makes his money. I suspect he consults within the golf (course design?) industry.

He started typing like any of us, but then started a thread on the hoops page about the possibility of a Cal Monster Class which could have included Jabari Bird, Marcus Lee, Aaron (went to Zona), and a couple other 5 stars.

He wanted to create hype and positive chatter and momentum for that to happen. After that ended with us only getting Bird, he wrote equally glowingly about Singer, Mathews, Kameron Rooks and Roger Moute as if THEY too were monsters. And he simply continued to roll the Monster class theme forward each year. He'd hype anyone who was tied to Cal and toss inappropriate insults to recruits who chose elsewhere. He would rip on players and non players' attire. He would post photos of teen players with their girlfriends and make suggestive commentary about it. He would attack fellow BI posters who asked him to stop, then demanded he stop then engaged in online arguing... he thought he was some super insider who was helping attract recruits to Cal. In the end, he's just another deranged fan who spent his money flying from Scottsdale to home and away games for at least the last two years of his presence here.

He posted photos of golf course travels, which made for a bit of interesting commentary. He shared unsubstantiated rumors of player movements, often as provided by his Arizona golf buddies. He made social commentary about anyone and everyone. Sometimes it came off as kindly, like when he'd talk about the lady in north beach who collected recyclable aluminum cans at 2 am, but more often it came off as highly insensitive and critical, like the broad whitewashing of homeless and impoverished individuals who have not done well in life. In this later situation, he'd post sad photos grabbed off the internet and claim that a grad of X university would end up like this. I researched the origin of one such photo and found that it came from an article about dire poverty in Nicaragua. Yet, Shocky seemed to miss that point only to make a mockery of it. Such elitism is traditional not what Cal stands for, in my opinion. That's Stanfordesque!

And, back to the original point, he'd post suggestive and salacious images of women, as stated above, in order to get 15 and 16 year old recruits to surf the BI page and, hopefully, develop an emotional allegiance with Cal.

Like, I don't want my recruits choosing Cal because some booster arranged porn action on visits.
I want intelligent Jaylen Brown type recruits. Ironically, Shocky, who bragged that he knew all sorts of inside info on all recruiting processes and even called himself the Director of Cal Basketball Recruiting, knew NOTHING of Jaylen Brown's recruitment. Hahaha. I laughed in his face.

A couple humorous moments came following our buzzer beater moments when Shocky would be seen running onto the floor like a drunk 20 year old student. Hey, more power to him, but when he once bounced off the pile and ran back to his seat, I had to laugh. Shocky had floor seats and I'd always look to see him when I'd go to games. He'd act like a good buddy to people and chat away like he was The Man. He'd bark at players and eventually had a guy watching him at the end of close games so that he didn't rush the court.

Shocky didn't wear socks, which bothered me cause I used to have some really smelly docksiders 30 years ago. But to Shocky, shiny black dress shoes without socks were some kind of hip fashion choice. To each his own, but I used to post jokes about it as a rub against his wacky meanness on this site. Yes, he and I started as potential friends, with me posting photos for him per his private message requests, but then we became quick adversaries. He also had a Cal hat with "Shocky" stitched in on the side. One time I spoke to him walking from the arena. I almost revealed my BI identity, but then after hearing him carry on I decided against it! And am glad I did.

Cuonzo did not like Shocky, either, and he was sidelined from various things by Coach. Shocky would write about it, which was fair and revealing. Over the years, Shocky's schtick worsened and he became more brazen in his commentary. After mgmt of this site changed over last year, Shocky was asked to be more appropriate and he decided at that time to give up the gig. His kids ended up at ASU, not even one of the Bay Area schools (USF was a potential destination) that I imagine Dad preferred.

The Monster Class Part Deux thread became more an Off Topic forum for regulars to rip on each other mixed in with meaningless recruiting info. Since the break, Shocky has not appeared, to my knowledge, at any Cal games, normreturned to post here. Who knows, maybe he returns to read, or grabbed a second name. But the personality was pretty clear and I think I'd be able to sniff him out.

And, yes, Shocky had played with trump a couple years before he decided to run, and reported the day here. Shocky did not like trump at all! Thought he acted like a jerk on the course. Broke rules. Boasted with no back up. Drove his cart to the edge of the green. The funniest thing was Trump tried to put Shocky in his place about golf course, until Shocky informed him that he was one of about 20 people to play every one of the top 100 world course over the past 10 years or so. That shut trump up with his baseless boasting. A tactic we see still today. Many voters are idiots and do not have the expertise like Shocky did/does to counter trump so they believe him.
