As the partial government shutdown continues in its 3rd week, the Food and Drug Administration has suspended all routine inspections of domestic food-processing facilities, the Washington Post reports. Axios

Maybe the Republicans could explain why they did nothing when they still controlled Congress. I suspect that many of them saw a wall in the middle of nowhere as a waste of Federal Funds and they are glad to see Democrats taking flack for trying to be fiscally responsible deficit hawks...B.A. Bearacus said:

The GOP deficit hawks scare their followers with the national debt. Somehow they attack benefits for the common man and the deficit grows. Then they cry national security and the deficit grows and then they say cut taxes and the deficit grows. The National Debt is the ******* child of the GOP.
Even more the growing deficit is justification to cut spending on the social welfare of the country, stop research in planning for climate change, reduce retirement benefits and bleed extra money out of retirees and those needing health care. And instead of the Corps of Engineers building levees and causeways to protect citizens next to waterways; building bridges over wide rivers and freeways; that infrastructure funding will build a border wall to nowhere. For decades the GOP has strategically misspent trillions in a well planned strategy to force democrats to accept cuts in social programs as part of balancing the budget. And today one of the 'sane' GOP senators supported the notion of taking disaster relief funds from ungrateful states like California to built the wall. It's all part of a long term GOP plan to financially punish their opponents.
Later this year, in mid-April, some of us single seniors will feel the sting of a tax increase, sold to a bunch of stooges as a tax cut. And even worse my adjusted income, now greatly increased by lost Federal deductions will also translate into higher state income taxes. The state didn't even have to change tax rates to increase state taxes.
Whenever I hear White Supremacy or talk of Western Civilization, I think of people like this: contemptible for the views and not exactly shining examples of the supremacy.going4roses said:

Is that part really true?
When we moved by the Government during BRAC in 1999. We had to take a bridge loan in order to buy a house in San Diego while we were moving out of our house in Castro Valley. It was not a quick process and it wasn't cheap and it wasn't part of our PCS (change of duty station) orders. Ross is clueless about the economic realities of citizens who are not millionaires. He probably recommended payday loans but an aide reminded him that such loans required actual paychecks...sycasey said:

Re deficit hawks: The National Debt is now $22T, which is over $2T more than 2 years ago. The "tax cut" was a push back to the wealthy at the expense of future generations.
Re bashing California, I will again point out that California pays more money into the Federal Coffers than any other state (not surprising due to our size). It also pays more than it receives back. There are about 15 states in that category, and while we are not highest per capita in this regard, we are in this group and NOT in the group of states which accept more back in federally funding than they pay in.
So, the California bashing is misinformation designed to reduce the political influence of our elected officials when the speak on national matters.

With regard to the tRump Shutdown, Lara Trump characterized workers as going through "a little bit of pain." But she said the pain is "for the future of our country and their children and their grandchildren." She insisted that "generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice right now." She went on to recount the pain she herself had to endure after a monthly distribution check from tRump University was late arriving and she had to cancel her pedicure, massage, body parts bleaching and empathy class appointments.
Maybe you can do the same?concordtom said:She's bold.bearister said:

Were I questioning her, I would have followed up with a question along the lines of:
"So, since you are so committed to this plan of sacrifice for the greater good, would you be willing to also put your money where your mouth is? That is, how much are YOU going to contribute to the fund to support this collective effort?"
She could donate money either directly to the wall construction fund or to the unpaid workers fund.
No. I do not believe in the narrative that we should collectively sacrifice for Trump's Wall. I do not think we should have a wall at all. And I do not believe the govt should be shut down, thus no need for any sacrifice here.oski003 said:Maybe you can do the same?concordtom said:She's bold.bearister said:

I'd like the money we would spend on a wall (which would provide zero economic benefit) to be spent on something that makes people's lives better.concordtom said:No. I do not believe in the narrative that we should collectively sacrifice for Trump's Wall. Your post is nonsensical.
This whole thing shows how exceeding poor The Grump is as a real estate developer . None of The Grump's prototype walls met design specs. One common failure was their weakness to flowing water. So his first project is to build 150 miles along the Rio Grande. The Grump and The Trumpettes keep saying we have a national security crisis at the border in San Diego county; so his first action is to build 'the wall' in Texas. Obviously a poor real estate developer who knows nothing about location, location, location...Yogi Bear said:I'd like the money we would spend on a wall (which would provide zero economic benefit) to be spent on something that makes people's lives better.concordtom said:No. I do not believe in the narrative that we should collectively sacrifice for Trump's Wall.
