I think the biggest issue is that Floridians have stopped taking reasonable protective measures recommended by the WHO. They should go back to doing things recommended by the healthcare organizations and media to slow down the spread, including wearing masks, washing hands, and protesting in a massive crowd if the cause is popular enough.
Of course you are correct from a functional standpoint. But I think the biggest obstacle is that there is no one who can convey the information to do those things who will be trusted by enough people to make a difference.
We obviously have a massive trust gap with politicians and media, on both sides. What are the people that Floridians trust telling them to do? What is the media Floridians trust telling them to do?
As a nation if we want to defeat this virus and return to some form of normal in the near future, we need our leaders to speak with one voice and have that voice communicated without commentary through the media to ensure it's heard by all. Public health responses should be nonpartisan, just as public health threats are. If this virus has taught us anything in the past 3 months, it's that for our response to really work, it needs to be widespread and consistent. We need the whole country to make sacrifices and exert collective will power to forgo instant gratification until we've won.
You can say I'm not optimistic about that happening any time soon.
