there are a lot of terrible things going on in the world right now based on hate & a lack of tolerance of those that are different from themselves and that have different points of view

my take is that if everybody was a mutt, if we were all somehow related, that there would be less war & conflict in the world

as a young player in grade school or high school, a player might dream of someday playing in the NBA
but a dream might also be to play hoops in college, or specifically at Cal or in the Pac12
playing on the big stage, in the bright lights, in front of thousands of fans cheering you on, win or lose
that is a BIG dream

Two, to me interesting, points: (1) The truth is that we are all mutts, starting with the first humans who ever left their place of origin, and continuing unabated (as Godfrey Cambridge said: If God didn't want "miscegenation", he wouldn't have standardized the parts), and (2)as shown by the history of the U.S.A., groups which have been slaughtering each other in other parts of the world: (a) come here and become fellow citizens working and contributing together, with their ethnicity of origin mattering less and less as time goes on, (even with African-Americans who have had the heaviest, and un-fairest of burdens here), and (b) at the same time, too many of we Americans many times form other groups, not ostensibly connected to their ethnicity (but often relating more to their geographic location, or sometimes economic position, in the U.S. - e.g., the U.S. Deep South, Orange County, rural areas of various U. S. Regions), which groups engage in the kind of divisive conflict with various groups within the U.S. which they perceive as enemies). So, although inter-marriage has provided, and continues to provide, much of a boon to every aspect of American life, it turns out that there are other aspects to the human spirit that have to be addressed, in order to reach the goals we seek.

We are all related and all our mutts. Think about it. Homo Sapiens originated in northeast Africa. It is not as though there were even thousands of them, when our species evolved from its closest ancestral relatives. Tens of thousands of years later our species began its spread throughout the world, but all descended from a common core.

There's something about Kanye which lends to the adoption of the expression people first started using with Liberace: He'ls laughing all the way to the bank. I think it is that weird combination of musical talent, and the inability of success to shake that ultimate outsider consciousness, which produces the outlandish gestures that brings so much disapprobation his way, regardless of his musical and business achievements.

the st marys gaels led by their crafty dynamic duo of guards joe rahon & australian emmett nahr celebrated at a loud & sold out mckeon pavillon a resounding 17 point victory vs a leaderless stanford cardinals...the cards have lost their 2nd game in preseason & now travel to brooklyn for a thanksgiving matchup vs villanova...beep, beep

true california golden bears fans (as opposed to those that just passively watch cal basketball on tv) will need to go online tonite at calbears.com or call 1-800-gobears tomorrow morning to get their tix(s) for the st marys game at haas pavilion on saturday december 12th at 12:30 pm as that game is likely gonna be sold out particularly as gaels fan start buying up the remaining tixs

with all the major challenges in the world involving terror, poverty & the uneducated, it's very clear to me that we need new leaders

whether it means serving as a mentor, educator or role model for the youth of oakland & richmond, saving a 100+ rescue dogs in your hometown or working to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts worldwide, new leaders need to emerge

as a catalyst for activism & social change solidly imprinted in the dna fabric of those educated here, it's my expectation that those depart the university of california, berkeley with a degree will honor that social obligation/conscience to make the world a better place

Only thing I knew was back to my g grandparents and a couple G&G grandparents. I found SO much I never had a clue. Was able to:
* get back to European origins on many lines
* Ben Franklin 1st cousin 7 gens removed
* wife and I share 3 sets of grandparents in CT in 1600's and 1700's, 10th and 7th cousins.
* descended from William Brewster of a Mayflower fame.
* presidents in my family tree as often 8th cousins 6x removed or something like that: grant, fdr, both bush, Coolidge, Adams both, I forget who else
* a gg grandpa who stole a cash box at 16 in England 1843 and was sent to 10 years transportation Van Diemen's land (jail Tasmania Australia)
* rev and civil war vets, as well as loyalists who went to Canada
* uncle who died in Andersonville
* cousins who married a Cherokee princess and now have a casino in OK
* an in-law ancestor who some history book says owned 40 slaves in clay county Missouri
* a 5g grandpa who was captain of a ship from Nantucket who sailed in 1790's to London, Cape Verde isles, Jamaica, around horn of South America, Honolulu, canton china. He brought back 12,000 elephant seal hides from mocha island and sold in NYC, bought a farm up the Hudson. I wonder if he ever impregnated any global moms giving me cousins afar.
* my wife is distantly related to a stepsisters husband, to my moms sisters husband.
It goes on, but battery is dying.

Did you know an estimated 10% of us can claim mayflower ancestry? And only 50 of 100 survived.

Ancestry has so many digitized searchable records you'll be amazed what you can find.

Watch shows who do you think you are, and Henry Louis gates' most excellent pbs Finding Your Roots!!! He does an awesome job of blending races together in this country. Chris Rock's episode was hilarious - dude has been on stage making fun of white-black relations, with angst against the white man. Turn the page Chris - there's a photo of your grandfather from the mid 1800's. "But he's white?!" That's right, and so are you. "Wow, I'm gonna have to work out a new routine."

Yes, we are all mutts of one type or another. But the mystery of how doesn't have to remain unknown. See spencer wells Journey Of Man for the DNA tale. It's 2 hrs on YouTube.

You're right. It is SO stupid for us to be fighting each other when you see how closely related we all are.

To anyone reading this and intrigued, take the adventure and see what you find. You'll be amazed.

sam houston state plays in the southland conference & is currently 1-2 this season with losses to smu & southern illinois (with head coach jon harris) and an offensive fireworks 114-92 victory over st thomas (texas)

the bearkats are led by the explosive trio of 6'2" 192 lbs dakarai henderson (20.7 ppg with 40% 3 pointers), 6'7" 245 lbs lithuanian aurimas majauskas (13.7 ppg with .545 fg% & 5.7 rpg) & 6'4" 185 lbs ameer jackson (13.7 ppg)...their best player from last season all southland 6'1" 200 lbs paul baxter has not played yet this season due to a foot injury & his status for tonite's game is not known

the bears gotta play relentless lockdown man defense & offensively feed the bigs with cal's huge height advantage...everybody knows the deal with young ivee but kameron rooks is also making steady progress with his arsenal of baby hook moves & seal and finish moves around the basket, tonite could be an unveiling of those developing skills

cal's brutal loss to cal state bakersfield & san diego state's stunning loss this week to arkansas little rock are cruel reminders of what can happen to sleep walking overconfident teams that are looking too far into the future & not focusing on today

the current excitement surrounding the cal basketball program is continuing to grow on both a bay area & national basis, a crowd of 8,500 is projected for the 8:00 pm tip off...yeah, hopefully my 2 favorite bearkats (them curvy brunette yoga females) will be at the palace tonite, how about you?

left to right, nick "the old timer" kerr, cole "surfer dude" welle, brenden "where's taylor?" glapion, brandon "the sniper" chauca & kingsley "god save the queen" okoroh

the bears took care of biz with a physical 46-31 rebounding advantage & better ball movement/circulation with 18 unselfish assists & only 6 turnovers

but the most important stat is that there were 15 smiling california golden bears during warm ups & the game (unlike the tense atmosphere on the team for the east carolina game) who celebrated playing basketball on a basketball court with a basketball at the playground with their best friends, you could feel the love within an energized & vocal haas pavilion tonite

let's be real here, basketball is just a game, we're not solving any of the world's issues so let's just smile & relentlessly compete...las vegas is gonna be a whole different level of competition

We classified it as a missed shot, so we gave him a rebound.

Reminded me of the time Kidd went up for a rebound and tipped off the backboard to another Cal player who put it in. As the they were running back, the announcer said that Kidd motioned to the scorer that he should get a rebound AND an assist.

team: oregon state beavers

shockster 2015/2016 pac 12 prediction: 6th place

coach: wayne "who's your daddy" tinkle

what you need to know about tinkle: wayne's daughter elle plays at gonzaga & daughter joslyn plays at stanford

what up in corvallis?: the beavs return everybody including senior point guard gary payton ii (13.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg & 3.2 apg), malcolm dunvivier (10.7 ppg & 3.5 apg), victor robbins (10.3 ppg), berkeley's langston morris-walker (9.3 ppg & 4.6 rpg), jarmal reid (8.3 ppg) & olaf schaftenaar (7.8 ppg) plus tinkle's son tres & assistant coach stephen thompson's son jr (whose recruitment wisely ended by the cal staff when dad took the job in corvallis), both are top 100 2015 recruits...the beavs play fundamentally sound defense but their abysmal team shooting will hold them back, osu is gonna be tough when the final score for both teams is in the 50s & 60s

what this means for the bears: cal will need to push tempo vs the methodical osu, the new 30 second clock rule will not help the deliberate beavs

oregon state (4-1) loses its 1st game of the year 63-57 to valparaiso despite 25 points & 11 boards from the pac 12's 2nd best guard after t-wall, gary payton II
