unless you are a 80+ yrs old retiree going into town for a dentures fitting, a recent unemployed arizona grad looking for work at the chipotle on speedway or applying as a border agent for the dangerous anti-cartel beheadings unit, or a bears fan catching a game at mckale, there's really no reason to ever visit a dump like tuscon

border towns like el paso, tuscon & nogales ain't that wonderful

several hundred wildcat fans primarily students rioted tonite in unsafe tuscon after the bb team lost a ncaa bb game to winsconsin

when you're a mediocre academic school in a dump like tuscon & your bb team loses too, there's apparently not much left to celebrate in the college experience other than that upcoming job fair interview at the chipotle on speedway

it's not like a police record for disorderly conduct is gonna keep you from a high paying & rewarding career in the service industry with that coveted arizona diploma

extra guacamole & lettuce please, no soft drink, would you like chips?

Question about the "Monster Class": Does it only apply to the 2013 class, or is it an ongoing thing? Because I just visited ESPN's Top 100 players list for 2014. Stanfurd signed three of them. UCLA signed three of them. Arizona signed three of them. Mike Montgomery signed none of them.

Great to hear. He will be a great addition to what we have and hopefully what we get in 2015. Now we need to close the deal on him.

j gatsby would gaze across the sound at the green light from the dock of his one true love daisy's mansion

"gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us...it eluded us then but that's no matter...tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther...and one fine morning..."

there's a couple of minutes left in the arkansas game at haas...i'm sitting in goldman's seats on the floor next to bill walton & vandalus and the atmosphere is decidely festive

a bears territory party is going on

so looking across the floor at the good looking montgomery women, it's surprising to see mike's wife sarah apparently crying with her daughter anne's arms lovingly wrapped around her mom...a beautiful but bittersweet moment

slow realization for me that this might truly be mike's final game at haas

i dunno, maybe sarah lost her lucky 7 iron that day on the uphill par 5 finishing hole at orinda cc

mike montgomery has been the most successful head basketball coach at the university of california, berkeley during the last half century

2008-09 22-11
2009-10 24-11
2010-11 18-15
2011-12 24-10
2012-13 21-12
2013-14 21-14

mike's legacy will also include cleaning up the ben braun academic cesspool, the creation of the meb fund, and a team of talented high character coaches & student athletes

and he did it all with a sly grin on his face & the full support of his family

a river runs thru it

cal's current bb recruiting is as fluid as a rapidly moving river (and yes, there are dangerous rocks underneath the currents)

with my 3rd favorite austrian who had an actionable arizona offer, american hs preps including the #1 player in the 2015 class & the best player in minnesota along with several elite west coast wings, an amazingly loaded 2016 class with several key top 50 targets describing cal as their dream school, 2 2017 bluechippers already leaning towards the bears, former recruits who might want to discuss transferring back to cal & even perhaps an already identified grad transfer possibility, cal bb is naturally evolving into a dynamic spawning ground

some of these details need to remain not visible (for now) below the pounding currents

this thread was started because of the need for greater energy & transparency with respects to cal bb recruiting...the common connector between all these potential future california golden bears is that they are high gpa/character student athletes that will proudly represent the #1 public university in the river

stoopid dumb azz playahs that want to ball out (and not focus on creating a lifetime of achieving their unique dreams via hard work in the classroom) need not apply (we ain't oregon)

this is cal basketball#

*****cal academic tutors

for successfully cleaning up the ben braun academic cesspool as evidenced by the bb team's recent apr of 955...with the current roster of true student athletes, this # is likely to escalate toward 1000 in the future

who are these bears?

alan crabbe-3.3 gpa@price (honorary team member/current playing w/portland trail blazers)
justin cobbs-3.39 gpa@bishop montgomery
richard solomon-3.5 gpa@price
david kravish-4.1 gpa@lee's summit north
tyrone wallace-3.5 gpa@bakersfield
ricky kreklow-3.72 gpa@rocky bridge
jeff powers-excellent student@delasalle
garrett galvin-4.0 gpa@torrey pines
jabari bird-3.0+gpa@salesian
jordan mathews-3.55 gpa@santa monica
sam singer-3.4 gpa@ransom everglades
kameron rooks-3.5 gpa@mission hills
roger moute a bidias-3.0+ gpa@notre dame
amhaad rorie-3.6 gpa@lincoln & montverde academy
idrissa diallo-3.4 gpa@cathedral

cal fans can expect every player listed above to either leave cal with a degree and/or a nba contract...hopefully the bears' future nba players will eventually return to cal like former nba all star shareef abdur rahim, 3.8 gpa@cal, to graduate

of the 300+ ncaa d1 bb teams, cal is among the most academically elite programs along with duke, stanford, the ivy leagues & the service academies

the above is the MOST IMPORTANT stat sheet in cal basketball

i asked decuire's dad, who is as fiery & loud as me, what was travis' gpa in hs

he laughed & told me

i'm not gonna share that # but let's just say that the travis of today probably would not recruit the travis of yesterday

You stepped up a good while ago to infuse a sense of positive energy, not to mention money, into our program. At a time of transition like now, you are remaining steady with that support, as evidenced of your recent (continued) posts. my 1st gf at cal (the it dept here refuses to post any fotos of her) who later appeared in the playboy girl's of the pac 10 issue once told me something about life that reasonated with me as one of life's universal truths

she told me "that you are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem, there's nothing in between"

jay john told me that "the meb fund has been in existence for 16 months and through the donations of our donors we have been able to upgrade the program...every dollar donated goes to help a meb student athlete in one way or another...for example, monies from the meb have gone to renovate the gold gym in the rsf so mbb, wbb and vb have a branded facility when the has pavilion floor is unavailable...the meb fund has paid for a feasibility study to upgrade the audio visual experience for our fans, i.e. a center hung scoreboard coming in the 2015-2016 season"

cal bb's brand new dedicated practice facility, the gold gym

"additionally monies have been used for the following upgrades: the player's locker room, video software equipment, new cameras, ipads for all players and staff (to deliver video and academic information), salary bumps for our strength trainer and academic personnel, funding a trip for 50 cal students to the pac 12 tourney in vegas and graphic enhancements in haas pavilion...at some point we will need to renovate our players locker room and lockers also...obviously, the monies are well spent and have directly enhanced the student athlete experience"

benefits include breakfast meetings with monty, preferred tixs to cal home & away games, a bunch of cal swag & another tax deduction

currently there are around 20+ of us supporting the meb...at the #1 public university in the world & the lifetime of opportunities it has created for us, this # show grow to 100+

ryan anderson's parents told mike when he took the cal hc job that a major factor in ryan's decision to declare for the nba & not return to cal was the crappy housing situation for their son in berkeley

so mike went to the major bb donors & they purchased a house for all the bb basketball players (except for the freshmen which must live in the dorms for a yr) near haas...our players now have a terrific living situation (ok, would be better if a few raiderettes lived there too but get over it)

to remedy these type of infrastructure problems in the future (which have held cal bb back during the last half a century), mike enlisted jay john to start the meb fund....this fund is never started without the enlightened forward thinking of mr cranky pants

*******************************************************

in speaking with other meb fund donors today (http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=the+limousines+we+are+very+busy+people&qpvt=the+limousines+we+are+very+busy+people&FORM=VDRE#view=detail&mid=562866E831FE45E6A4C5562866E831FE45E6A4C5 ), the support is clearly for either travis decuire or utah hc larry krystkowiak

the odds of sandy barbour hiring some mid major coach who made his rep recruiting a team full of 2.5 gpa dumb azzs, anyone over 50 yrs old (cal bb needs a high energy young leader that will relentlessly recruit & build strong relationships with aau coaches) or some random nba/cal player are basically slim & none without risking the support of the meb fund donors (and we are all esp fb donors too & also financial supporters of other programs of the university)

on the other hand, if j kidd wants to take a several million dollars paycut & return to cal...

both are excellent coaches that value academics

tad boyle is over 50 yrs old, was born in pueblo (coiorado is his dream job)l, all of his starters are returning next season (although spencer dinwiddie has changed his course & may declare for the nba) and his current compensation package pays him $1,490,020 with a $500,000 buyout clause if he leaves before april 30, 2015

larry krystowiak is under 50 yrs old (barely, he's 49), is not mormon, played & was a hc in the nba, played for mike montgomery, has turned around the utah program including 5 guys on this yr's pac 12 all academic team and his current contract pays him $950,000

OK...to be fair Larry is just 2 years younger than Tad but lets not quibble. The difference in salary is probably a big deal. Having spent time on the front range, I agree, hard to move away. Both deserve feelers to see if they are frustrated - one thing about CU is that it boggles the mind how meddling the boosters are in university matters. One never knows if Tad may have crossed swords with someone he shouldn't.

Appreciate the direction Monty has taken the program and the dedication and support of the MEB fund

Keep the positive momentum going, with Monty and the funds support I'm confident in the future.

Both TD and LK sound like good candidates to me.

Would lob to see Theo stick around and Greg and John Monty too

Really like our staff, think they get it and believe they have the passion to take this thing to new heights

Do they have the talent to win recruits and then games to become championship caliber?
