team: colorado buffaloes

shockster 2015/2016 pac 12 prediction: 10th place

coach: tad "bad luck" boyle

what you need to know about boyle: he took over the buffs program in 2010 after successfully turning around a dormant northern colorado basketball program...he quickly transformed the colorado program with 3 runs in the ncca tournament during 2011-2013...the 2013 bufs team was positioned for a deep ncca run & national recognition in what appeared to be a breakthru season when tad's bad luck came out of nowhere, team leader & catalyst spencer dinwiddie was lost for the season with an acl injury

what up in boulder?: the bufs were a dysfunctional team last season with the now departed biggest gunner in the pac 12 askia booker (17.2 ppg) shooting the team out of games (that's gonna be allonzo trier's role in tucson this season)...team chemistry was so bad that boyle & booker mutually agreed that askia wouldn't play in the buffs ill fated cbi post season tournament...xavier johnson (10.3 ppg & 5.6 rpg) tearing his acl this summer is a huge loss for the upcoming season

josh scott (14.5 ppg & 8.4 rpg) & wesley johnson (6.6 ppg & 6.9 rpg) comprise arguably the best rebounding retunring duo in the pac 12...point guard production & facilitation will be the key re: whether it's gonna be another long season for tad or not, sometimes that bad luck is hard to shake

what this means for the bears: sitting behind the cal bench with coach martin's childhood friend jerry from back in the day in east st louis during the bears gutty & grinding win on a chilly nite in boulder, the coors event center is clearly one of the toughest road venues in the pac 12...the bears gotta work their azzs off this summer with coach christopher in order to be well conditioned enough to compete at a mile high altitude

colorado (16-5/5-3) is along with usc & washington one of the surprise teams of the pac 12, the loss of inwardly focused asia booker has been an addition by subtraction

the buffaloes are led by senior nba prospect 6'10" 245 josh scott (17.3 ppg with rabb like unreal accurate 58.2% fgs & 9.7 rpg), the best guy in the pac 12 you've never heard of 6'6" 220 lbs george king (14.8 ppg with a fatal 48.5% on 3 pointers, cal defenders must chase & close out on him on the perimeter) & 6'5" 205 lbs josh fortune (10.8 ppg & 4.2 rpg)...6'2" 180 dominique carter (3.3 apg & 8.8 ppg), 6'9" 240 lbs wesley gordon (6.9 rpg) & 6'7" 210 lbs treshaun fletcher (7.2 ppg) play key roles

colorado is a physically tough rebounding team (43 rpg) that can knock down the 3 pointers (40.9%) but that is also careless with the ball (14 turnovers per game)...the bears gotta defend at a high level & win the battle of loose balls while pressuring (including a full court press at times) the buffs into mistakes...jabari & jordan gotta compete & crash the boards...containing josh scott is the key, if the bears can attack him on the offensive end & get him in foul trouble the outcome of this game is impacted

but at the end of the day while colorado is a very physical & well coached team, this really is all about whether or not the bears are gonna play with intensity for 40 minutes without fan/family support on the road...how bad do guys want it?

back to berkeley to the basketball house (pictured below), everybody gotta get enough sleep tonite & turn off the social media devices...my moms always reminds me that when times are tough, it's very important to let your body & mind rest, a good night's sleep will do wonders for your mental outlook before you start problem solving life's challenges (and yeah, this applies to you too, coach)...running on empty isn't gonna solve anything, you need energy to do great things

it's important to realize that when things are going well (arizona win), everybody is gonna love you, that's just the way of the world

and when times are tough, the fake model fans (the ones that exclusively watch cal basketball on tv) are gonna talk **** about you...right now you gotta lotta enemies...but be assured that the true california golden bears fans are gonna turn out with energy & noise against stanford next saturday at 1:00 pm, haas pavilion is gonna be your sanctuary

t-wall, you gotta double up on the calcium, we need your torn ligaments to heal quickly ideally so you can play on the next road trip in seattle & pullman...i dunno maybe your curvy brunette yoga girlfriend ms alacantar will make you a calcium enriched salad with dark leafy greens, okra, almonds, green beans with various cheese strips

coach, your guys need a mental day off from basketball, maybe just a short shoot around including free throws & then a visit to the berkeley no kill rescue shelter...the mental strain of everybody associated with the program is evident by the looks on their faces...and yeah, you probably need to also reconsider the benching guys with 2 fouls in the 1st half, that strategy isn't working with this team

this team has the talent to run the tables in the 2nd half of the pac 12 schedule but it's all gonna start with a good nite's sleep for everybody

bueno noches

Simply put we are a very good collection of basketball players, but not a very good basketball team. 4-5 after the first half is disappointing with the talent on board. What say thee shocky?

So the cyclical nature of BB. Sounds more like a lot of stock portfolios than a BB squad. I would suggest a linear component in five conference road games and five conference losses. Or even, for a glass is half full people like myself, four conference home games with four wins. So do we win out, or just reverse the lineality of play?

Right on... This very talented group has still not meshed as a team. Jaylen has taken over and moved into the Wallace role of driving into the heart of the defense with absolute tunnel vision. Pulls it off at about the same rate as Wallace.

The substitution pattern was puzzling yesterday. When shooters were needed on the floor, CM had three non-scorers in the game which allowed the Buffs to concentrate on Matthews or Brown or Bird or Rabb (whatever combination of two that was in at the time). Colorado was beatable, but not by our current Bears. Didn't think Wallace would be missed this much. Actually hoped for some improvement as a team.

there's a lot of fun (and inaccurate) speculation re: the futures of ivan & jaylen, no decisions have been made as the focus right now is 100% on the next game & winning basketball games while wearing cal uniforms

jaylen, as the only california golden bear other than me with a dedicated yoga & meditation practice, it is surprising that your gameday performances are sometimes so unbalanced

you played the 2nd half of the colorado game with a dominating 21 points like lebron james...you imposed your will upon the game

unfortunately you played (and i use that description is a charitable manner) the 1st half of the colorado game with zero points, etta james could've balled out more than you

jaylen, which james are you gonna be next saturday afternoon vs stanford at haas pavilion at 1:00 pm?...should we bring out yoga mats to the pregame warm ups?

Cal loses games because of turnovers on offense, look at how many shots Colorado took in first half vs our number of shots. And their big run in second half was fueled by our turnovers.

Also look at our foul prone big men, many of their fouls are needless offensive fouls.

ps i am sick and tired of opponents flopping every time they get grazed by K&K or Jaylen not to mention the Colorado players Sunday who jumped straight into poor Kingsley and then got the call every time.
