Some of the worst QB play I've seen. He's (Garbers) has had plenty of opportunities to lead the Bears, game after game, season after season he just sucks. Apparently practices well but just doesn't bring it on game day, let's move on.

He didn't suck in 2019. Led some very nice drives actually (especially to win the Big Game).

Not sure what's happened.

If Garners vs the Modster/McIlwain dumpster fire is the best we can do, then we need a new coaching staff.

Possibly. I'm just saying the problem is not our failure to sit the starting QB.
I have always agreed with this but I think if we have any young guy who has even challenged Garbers, now might be the time tom give him a shot.

It would be a pure shot in the dark. Unless there is someone who looks truly amazing in practice I don't think you make that switch one game into the season.
I agree. You make the move two games into the season, just in time for Sac State :-)

The best three game stretch I saw was the last three games of 2019 for Furd, UCLA and Illinois. I think he finally mastered Beau's offense after a lot of stop and starts. Then a new offense was installed, one that is incredibly different from Beau's offense, and under utilizes his skills set, especially running. It appears that Musgrave is a nice guy (like Beau) but his offense is extremely dull and he is not anywhere near a top offensive mind at this point. And his offense also is a horrible fit for Chase. Unfortunately this is on Wilcox for selecting him.

Yeah Musgraves stuff is kind of weak. There's nothing amazing there at all schematically.

Wilcox should know, he could goose egg Musgraves in a head to head.

That's a problem.

Re Beau Baldwin:

His Cal Poly team won 28-17 today. Former Cal QB Spencer Brasch threw for 318 yards and 2 TDs.

They beat USD. His EWU teams beat up on other FCS teams too. He is also not the OC and he was not the OC at EWU. I do think he is a good small college HC. Good rah rah positive energy, good motivator, hires good coordinators.

Those 3 teams were also terrible and finished with losing records.

Well, Nevada gave us another gift by screwing up that sequence. One more chance.
Don't hold your breath.
And, there's always the OT board to take out our frustrations on the idiots over there after the game!

Yeah because the first thing people feel like doing after a bad loss is to debate abortion.
I think it's Trump's fault! He's an idiot criminal.
See you there next week.

He's coaching an FCS team -- of course they played and beat an FCS opponent.

Hires good coordinators... now there's an idea.

FWIW, both Cal Poly coordinators played at EWU when Baldwin was HC there.

Garbers had very poor pass protection from his offensive line last night. He had no time to throw, especially on the deeper routes. Our OL is absolutely terrible at pass protection.

I'm tired of "nice guy" coaches. Wilcox and Musgrave are "nice guys" but crappy coaches. We need a strong, mean SOB who demands excellence and finds a way to get it. As the saying goes, nice guys finish last, and we have seen this with Cal football for years.

I wonder how good Nevada could be with Cal's budget.

I wonder how good Nevada would be if their players had to matriculate at Cal

Interesting questions. Yes, Nevada is not just one of the smallest budgets in FBS but the second to smallest in the MWC. Cal gets ~$30 million every year for their media contract, Nevada $2-$3 million.

I believe 80% of Cal's HS recruits need to have a 3.0 GPA; Nevada recruits all need to have a 2.5. Like Ohio State and USC, Cal has a stronger academic record than Nevada (AAU). Nevada has always placed a huge emphasis on athletic academic results; too bad they don't put more financial support on athletics.

From NevadaSportsNet.com (2019):
"The Wolf Pack athletic department saw all 15 of its programs pass the multiyear Academic Progress Report benchmark set by the NCAA, with five teams posting perfect single-year numbers. Overall, Nevada averaged a score of 981 (out of 1,000) for the multiyear rate, down from 984 the year prior... Six Wolf Pack programs football, men's golf, rifle, women's cross country, softball and women's tennis matched or improved their multiyear scores from a year ago. All of those sports except for football (977) posted perfect scores of 1,000 in the single-year data. Last week, Nevada football earned the NCAA's Public Recognition Award after being ranked in the top 10 percent of all FBS teams."

From SBNation.com(2015):
"A lot has been made of Cal's increased focus on academics for incoming athletes who hope to be future old blues. Jeff Tedford left the Cal program in shambles with the worst player graduation rate in the entire Pac-12. Sonny Dykes was challenged with the task of not only revamping a program, but also increasing the emphasis on academics for existing players and new recruits.

The school has been on a noticeable upswing since then, and under a new set of rules, Cal will be targeting only athletes with a 3.0 grade-point average in high school. It was stipulated that 40 percent of the incoming athletes meet that standard this fall, and the bar will be set at 80 percent by 2017."

Please win a lot of games this year!

Which is worse?

A) 49ers could have had Aaron Rodgers Year 1, but passed him over.
B) Cal could have had Vacaville's QB Strong, but passed him over.
I mean come on. He was not that good. I don't know what Petros was going on about - his arm looked weak to me.
Good God, you are as ****ing dumb of a homer as you ever were

Lol. No, though. I called for the OC to be fired tonight. I suggested we should switch QBs and if we have no one better we are in big trouble for 2-3 years.

I just didn't think this guy looked like a pro QB. He was fine. Not great or even very good.

Reading another thread tonight reminded me of this Yogi post.

Carson Strong: undrafted.

Told you, Yogi.
