Saw on Twitter that he committed to Cal. Was a 3 star QB and is a Louisville transfer. What the heck does this mean? Is the staff not that thrilled with Plummer so they are looking for more competition? or worse, a hail Mary for a competent QB? Or, do they not think Kai Miller is sufficient as a the #2? Or some other reason?

Would have loved to see an open scholly go to another OL than a QB.

It's my understanding that PWOs don't get schollies their first year and are not guaranteed them later either. I think this is more competition. I don't think the coaches bring a player on unless they think he can compete for playing time. That doesn't mean they have lost faith in any of our current QBs, just that they are beefing up the position with more competitors. I have not read anywhere that the coaches have lost confidence in our current QBs--just the opposite as the reports I have read have been very positive.

Having confidence in our QB group, that's extraordinary either way.

Jensen was HS class of 2021 so maybe this is just bringing in another guy whose talent the staff likes for development.

I'd be shocked beyond belief if it has anything to do with the staff not being very happy with Plummer. I'm thrilled we have Plummer and can't wait to see what our pro style offense looks like with an actual pro style QB. I bet Plummer is going to finally make Musgrave look good or at least decent.

Given we just lost 2 QBs (Debis and Glover) to transfer it seems a good idea. I am concerned that Plummer and Milner did not perform similarly at the spring game. Johnson seemed great and Rowell OK.

Could be that the staff has reason to believe they won't get their #1 QB for this cycle (Rashada) but are likely in the running for 1 of 5 QBs they've offered this cycle (Duncan). It seems odd that Musgrave has only offered 5 this cycle and other than Rashada and Dorman (committed to Arizona) the other 3 don't come highly touted/ranked. Duncan is starting to collect some praise so that is encouraging. Either way Musgrave should be going after more QBs.

My sense of this is that, like the SF 49ers, Cal has decided that a quality back-up QB is very important and they don't feel they have that established yet so they are okay with more competition until it is. Personally I think Milner is 2023 and beyond in terms of being a quality pac-12 QB, even as a backup.
I don't think this has anything to do with Plummer, who is an established starter.

Jensen is from San Diego, so he's closer to home now, and he has the opportunity to get a UC Berkeley degree. Smart move on his part, I'd say.

Also, if PWO he pays out of state tuition at Washington or Louisville, whereas being from San Diego he pays in-state tuition at Cal. Less money for a much better degree plus, a long shot chance of PT.

Not so fast, his parents might be residents, but if he's been living out of state for a couple of years, that wonderful Berkeley bureaucracy may not consider him a resident...

When I was a grad student, they required us to be on campus by a certain date to start the residency clock (for tuition the following year). Had a colleague that couldn't make that date because he had to attend a family wedding...they threatened that he would have to pay the tuition difference as the department would only fund in-state tuition...

It is not Berkeley's rules, it is California law and UC rules.

You are right, the long absence from California is an issue.

However, he needs to sho things like: He graduated from a California HS, his parents remained in California, he was listed as a dependent on their taxes, he returned to California during breaks, maintained his California driver's license, voted in California, did not establish residency in another state…and intends to remain in California after graduation, he should be declared a California resident for tuition purposes.
