luv u sycasey but gotta agree with ac on this that recruiting is turning a corner, all sorts of bad **** could potentially happen in our lifetimes, like leidy getting rid of her smokeshow PONYTAIL & then looking bald as **** kinda like coach so'oto, but that's not a healthy way to live our lives

when shocky finally (there's some bull**** state of arizona requirement re: mandatory 750+ training hours or something) becomes a substitute teacher at modern yoga he's gonna play truly awesome music for his students (with loudly singing along strongly encouraged) with a lotta adjustments (particularly if ur a curvy brunette yoga female, dudes will be on their own) & remind everybody that that vast majority of stupid **** that people worry about everyday NEVER actually come to fruition

https://instagr.am/p/DJ8XxYwt282
at the end of the day all american tommy tofi is gonna join his brah john jr to ensure that the mr & mrs tofi along with already offered ernie can celebrate their fall gamedays TOGETHER as a family at memorial stadium while the seagulls circle from high above, KAAAAAABBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!

fun fact: shocky is gonna get a small bears tattoo on the nape of his neck kinda like leidy (kinda wondering who got her into daily green juices so she can also poop like a racehorse??) that will be usually covered by my current in progress wildly growing out ponytail!!

How much excitement should any of us have about these recruiting "commitments" when it seems like any of these players could decide to "transfer" out at any time?

Answer: "a moderate level" of excitement

Put it this way: much larger chance he ends up at Cal now than if he had verbally committed to U$C today

sycasey, let's be real here, some commits are more important than other commits and yeah tommy tofi is a MONSTER commit to the california golden bears football program!!

if tommy decommits (which would basically get him expunged from the tofi household forevah) then shocky will buy u & ur wife/girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/rando from ur yoga studio an all expenses paid FREE vacay to the bahamas so u can take the FUN day trip to piggy island!!

^ this is a legally binding offer as shocky aced (along with astronomy 10) a pre law class during his haas biz ad days & is considered a renowned left coast expert in inverse condensation & ****

but tommy's not going anywhere except the riordan library & weight room

international recruiting update: former austrian national basketball team member turned tight end 6'55" 252 lbs tight end luca georg wolf from vienna austria is gonna officially trip to berkeley this weekend

2026 cal's monster class recruiting update: official visitors for june 6th-8th

after a wildly successful 1st weekend the 2nd wave of 3 summertime recruiting official visits will see the staff hosting 11 visitors scheduled at this time for the claremont this weekend

among the visitors will be current cal commits lockdown corner/nickel jayden crowder from santa margarita high school & sideline to sideline linebacker jaxon pyatt from arvada west high school north of denver...both future bears got 3.4 gpas & are true student athletes with academic ambition

in state cali official visitors will include 4.3 gpa dangerous wideout emanuel "ej" morgan from central high school in fresno, 3.0 gpa lengthy cornerback major hinchen from la quinta high school in the palm desert, mobile defensive lineman frank fanua from mount miguel high school in spring valley & 3.5 gpa elite longsnapper giancarlo cereghino from caldecott tunnel high school

outta state official visitors will include high motor interior offensive lineman koloi keli from farrington high school in honolulu, 3.8 gpa mauler offensive lineman khalil sanogo from mansfield west high school south of ft worth, highly productive defensive lineman keytrin harris from compass prep high school in chandler, 3.5 gpa destructive defensive lineman kordae houston from south oak cliff high school south of dallas & +1 athletic tight end luca georg wolf from vienna austria

this will be updated as musical chairs creates ongoing changes to travel plans, the staff needs to specifically focus/target upon higher gpas/academic profiles in assembling the very promising 2026 high school class

2025 ncca men's golf championship at la costa: 4th round update

starting on the par 5 10th hole ziqin "eric" zhou holed out his long bunker shot for an eagle 3!!

zinqin stumbled a little bit on his final nine but got a birdie 3 on his final hole to finish with a 73 & at +1 for the ncca championship & tied for 22nd as a true freshman living in a new country, amazing!!

the true freshman phenom from shenzen china literally got all the shots & the necessary mental composure to compete on the biggest stages plus he's got the full support of the staff & his teammates

vandalus & shocky asked eric's moms lisa what wuz her son's height & weight, she gave us the #s in the metric system which vandy converted on his phone to 6' 196 lbs, this is a rock solid +1 athletic golfer & not undersized like so many of his current bears teammates

shocky walked all 18 holes with zhou on saturday during his near flawless bogey free 67 on a 7500 yard course, it wuz kinda like seeing my future yoga buddy jaylen brown for the 1st time at the nike summit high school all star classic in portland back in the day...and yeah there's no doubt that ziqin fed off the monster's louder than most cheering!!

fun fact: the cal golf team will be traveling to st andrews this fall to play in a mini tourney at the home of golf which will include st andrews university...great opportunity for team bonding, developing creativity thru exposure to pure links golf & see more of the world!!

so here's shocky's 100% candid player personnel analysis, these are solely the monster's opinions & not those of the cal men's golf current/former coaching staff or collin morikawa/max homa/ben an/michael kim, got it??...it should also be pointed out that the team's golf roster size will be impacted by the house settlement & it's possible that a talented transfer deal will get worked out

the superstars:

ziqin "eric" zhou (will be a sophomore next season): the econ major got all the tools to be one of the nation's top 10 golfers, he tole me that collin has reached out to him by phone a couple of times...that kinda developmental mentorship advice/relationship from the world's #4 ranked golfer is priceless

xihuan chang (true freshman): the beijing china native got morikawa like credentials entering college with a top 4 finish at the us junior boy's & a top 32 at the us amateur (successfully competing at usga events which are prepared for championship golf is the true mark of a golfer's pedigree)...only red flag for the 5'11" xihuan is his slight weight of 143 lbs which can be addressed this fall in the s&c program at memorial stadium

solid with potential great upside:

charlie berridge (5th year senior): what can the 6'5" 211 lbs former ice hockey player/highest gpa student on the golf team do with his game without the relentless time demands of berkeley undergraduate studies??...berridge (his dad eric kindly invited me out to visit again his gatsby inspired timeless c&c brambles) tole me he gotta stretching routine but a yoga/meditation practice is the next step, got it charlie??

daniel heo (senior): the 6' 165 lbs econ major from cypress made huge developmental strides late in the season & would benefit from another 10-12 lbs of muscle this offseason

sihao cong (blueshirt sophmore): the 5'11" 155 lbs irvine native stood out this season & would benefit from another 10-15 lbs of muscle this offseason

charlie bundy (blueshirt junior): the personable william & mary transfer sat out this season while working on his game & studying for the haas biz ad school (tole me he will find out in july re: his application to haas)...mutiple sources tole me that charlie excelled in the qualifying rounds around the bay (including 3-4 rounds at shocky's old caddying grounds at the fabulous san francisco golf club)...bundy is actually 6'1" 148 lbs (not the 155 lbs listed on the roster bio), charlie gotta start measuring his daily protein grams intake like the vast majority of pga golfers (rory consumer 170 grams of protein a day, basically his body weight) & get himself up to 160-165 lbs before this fall while playing a rigorous summer amateur golf slate

unproven young talent:

matthew miyamoto & kai hirayama (sophmores unless they blueshirted): gotta work harder to get better, are they grinders??
zhenghei "richard" han (blueshirt freshman): see above, all 3 r undersized by asu golf standards (lean muscular 180-185 lbs)
trevor cox (true freshman): the 2025 commit from rancho santa fe hasn't achieved anything significant in junior golf, needs to work with a chip on his shoulder

2026 commitments:

graham christopher: walked la costa with graham while following zhou, the 4.1 gpa student at oaks christian plays outta sherwood & gotta gain muscle to compete at the next level...former baseball player

callixte alzas: the french native (kinda like dp tour player/berkeley grad joel salter) qualified/competed at the british amateur last summer conducted by the royal & ancient at ballyliffin in ireland

https://instagr.am/p/C8fLcBRtpV9
the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (there is NO substitute for hard work)

https://instagr.am/p/DIMHm7GOSW5
usga updates:

future superstar incoming freshman xihuan chang is exempted from qualifying into both the 2025 us amateur at the olympic club august 11-17th & the 2025 us junior amateur at the fantastically complex coore & crenshaw trinity forest (south of dallas) july 21st-26th...xihuan has already competed on golf's largest stages with ice in his veins, hopefully bears fans will show up in san francisco to root for our new bear this summer

in 2025 junior amateur local qualifying trevor cox shot an 80 yesterday & did not advance to final qualifying

would be great if ziqin "eric" zhou & maybe some of his teammates also qualify for the 2025 us amateur at the o club's lake & ocean courses

Really like this player. Fast, versatile and uber productive. Can likely play RB, DB or WR. And possibly run kicks. And if he is a 3.3 gpa kid then he must be a priority. Would love a Central East duo of Smith and Morgan (visting this weekend). Good players with high ceilings.

justin wilcox: tireless worker who cares about the academic goals/ambitions of his student athletes, an ELITE defensive mind that continually fails to get involved with offensive & special teams...an intensely private person in a profession that favors extroverts vs introverts

brian johnson: good person that beat cancer but a FAILED s&c coach that needs to be replaced later this month, wilcox not having the stomach for this will doom 2025 once again to epidemic INJURIES & yet another underachieving season...this is by far the #1 issue along with kicking game holding back the cal football program

mike bloesch: very detailed offensive line coach that lost focus on o-line development this past year tryna unsuccessfully juggle both his room & play calling duties...not an emotionally available person due to his stoic personality, mike stubbornly refuses to listen to the more than half of the staff's preference for less interior run schemes in favor of PITCHOUTS...this is the #2 issue adversely impacting cal fb

peter sirmon: an outstanding defensive coordinator & ELITE developer of inside backers, his biggest miscue of 2025 wuz not giving hunter & liam more snaps early in the season particularly in the miami game which resulted in cade & teddye gassed in the 4th quarter & unable to tackle the canes qb1 & wr1 in open space

ryan longwell: former nfl kicker/low handicap golfer it's mind boggling to me that ryan didn't see in mateen the collin morikawa like ELITE precision in his stroke coupled with an ice in his veins mental make up...if ryan can put together a deal (outlined in an earlier post) for mateen then cal's special teams could be the best in the acc next season, otherwise more lost games because of missed field goals is a real possibility...along with the failing s&c program, this is the #1 issue adversely impacting the program

aristotle thompson: likable coach with a remarkable family but has never produced a nfl draft running back, his failing to advocate for PITCHOUTS like ron gould did back in the day has cost jaydn millions of dollars

burl toler: one of the best west coast recruiters with his sincere ability to build relationships & sell berkeley academics, burl has also built a now ingrained zero BLOCKING culture in his wideout room which has hurt the nfl scouting evaluations of his players

mike saffell: the engaging FUN haas berkeley biz ad grad is the future head coach in berkeley (our version of asu's home grown dillingham), would be nice if he elevated the BLOCKING expectations in the tight end room before that day gets here

sterlin gilbert: a gifted developer of quarterback talent, he also shares bloesch's texas high school background of smashmouth only interior runs/**** run game schemes

andrew browning: good not great coach in a tough spot recruiting historically the lowest gpa position in college football, andrew is a plus for the program

vic so'oto: more fiery this season is a real plus given the kinda buttoned up personalities of wilcox & sirmon, his earlier recruiting mistakes with low gpa prospects are now in the rear view mirror

tre watson & terrence brown: the PERFECT coaches in this era of college free agency, the are both FUN & mentoring their room both on & the off the field to become remarkable young berkeley grads...and if a player has nfl physical tools, they will get them to the next level of their dreams & PAID in the national football league!!

marshall cherrington: a high energy recruiter who juggles well, marshall has learned from his earlier wasted time/resources recruitments of low gpa academic silver bullets, struggling academically students will be the 1st to bail from berkeley when a better nil offer rolls in

valerie grimaldo: berkeley grad in 3 years is very creative & got a good PONYTAIL!!

andrew mcgraw: the most qualified next ad to hit the ground running (cal athletics is running out of time under knowlton's cluster****) with a football first approach to everything which will help finance all other sports...needs to be more assertive in guiding wilcox thru his blind side

sierra achin: the berkeley grad is a huge upgrade in the cfo role from the anti football/basketball agenda tom lowry who retired last year after carrying out the knowlton driven financial tsunami of loans from the central campus which will never have the future revenues for repayment

beth tafolla-voetsch: a competent administrator, her conference call with donors scheduled for this friday soliciting internal nil fundraising is NOT gonna be well received just like the earlier zoom call (described to me as a "timeshare sales pitch") requesting funding for all the non revenue sports...NOBODY wants to pay for worthless bureaucrats

markeisha everett: an arrogant self promoter who decision to not offer FREE tixs to all students & also failing to capitalize on the professional sports team tix competition departing from the bay area marketspace has resulted in tens of thousands empty seats/a lotta tarps at memorial stadium & high school crowds at haas pavilion for both the men's & women's basketball teams...a failing hire for all the wrong reasons

jennifer simon-o'neil: the one truly evil as **** person in the athletic department protected a racist swimming program, still tryna lobby for internal nil dollars to be distributed to the star quidditch player instead of the starting offensive line

james knowlton: the general is financially illiterate & a pathological liar (both promising the basketball practice facility which is never gonna get built under his watch & deceiving the uc board of regents last months utilizing 2023 financial data instead of projected 2025 numbers while lyons quietly played along with his deception), he's NOT liked by the football program or even his own staff other than jenny & marekisha who like him are not employable anywhere else on planet earth

rich lyons: means well & loves cal sports in a profound way but after working decades on campus his decision to not terminate knowlton re: the mckeever fiasco via the chancellor's office guard dog dan mogulof is beyond disappointing, if rich can't embolden himself to make decisions his tenure in a time of existential financial challenges barreling towards berkeley his legacy will be just that of another bureaucrat who got paid to look out the window at the campanile on a wintery december day

lance cooper: the program mvp, cal football would be unrecognizable without his involvement

kevin kennedy: see above, his pro bono work pencils out at about 5 cents an hour for his thousands of unbillable hours

randy scott: cal men's basketball biggest madsen confidante & football/basketball landlord of the year

oski: got replaced by buc-ee, huge ******* upgrade!!

https://instagr.am/p/DDDJbtMPeL1
the world according to shocky#

terminating the employment of ryan longwell & brian johnson wuz ESSENTIAL, both ryan & brian are good guys who just aren't very good at their current professions which cannot be said for the arrogant, mean spirtied worthless bureaucratic ****tards jimmy, jenny & markeisha who got anti revenue sports agendas

coach jason novak & coach famika anae are MAJOR POSITIVE additions to the cal football program & coach michael frisina is relatable/likeable to college student athletes & his positive energy is serving him well in developing into a special teams coach with upside

so to directly answer ur question dwm, yes shocky believes our kicking games issues are essentially resolved...we got guys who have played on the games largest stages including last season's national championship game, the hostile corvallis atmosphere with the chainsaw buzzing all game will not be too big of a moment for our kicking unit

2026 cal's monster class recruiting update:

right now the bears got 6 commitments & marshall cherrington/the staff are targeting a 2026 high school class of approximately 15+ high gpa student athletes that can compete in the acc...actionable scholly offers r gonna be at a premium

the next wave of official visitors will start up again on may 29th with multiple high target prospects tripping to the claremont in berkeley that weekend including the big board's #1 prospect offensive tackle tommy tofi from riordan along with his bro current cal commit havoc wrecking crusader john tofi jr, nationally recruited defensive lineman nemyah telona from concord de la salle, apex predator edge defender dakota dickson from monte vista in danville, +1 athletic tight end isreal briggs from redwood high school in visalia & elite wideout rj mosley from pittsburg high school and will be the expected nor cal talent that got an opportunity to be hometown heroes while sharing their collegiate fall gamedays with their parents, family & friends taking just short drives to memorial stadium

out of town official visitors expected to trip to berkeley include priority running back victor santino from bishop montgomery high school, hard hitting safety logan hirou from santa margarita catholic high school, immediate impact outside linebacker ezaya tokio from oceanside high school, lockdown corner/nickel jeron jones from mission viejo high school & explosive tight end taimane purcell from kamehameha high school in honolulu...current cal commit inside linebacker jonathan mckinley from corona centennial will be making the short flight north

the bears will then also host official visitors on the weekends of june 7th & 14th...some of these prospects currently got conditional offers which could become actionable offers depending upon how the may 29th visits turn out with evaluations working both ways been high schoolers & the staff...multiple already committed bears will also take official visits to berkeley during the two june weekends

also visiting may 29th during the 1st of the 3 key recruiting weekends will be elite 11 6'3" 195 lbs quarterback brady palmer (not related to arnold) from cathedral catholic high school in san diego...rolo is running point on extending actionable offers in the qb room & the indian valley hacker has developed a lotta qbs who get PAID in the national football league

good manners: shocky also always offers to take his kicks off when entering people's homes, shoes r for losers

real talk: the cal football program is the right choice for those that wanna build generational wealth via their nfl aspirations competing in the acc & working hard in the classrooms of berkeley in a fiercely competitive global economy that unremorsefully favors cal, stanford & ivy league grads while low academic football factory skools (which r often located in ****hole truck stop towns with lousy level 7 hypothermia weather) dispose of their low gpa gladiators once their marginal utility is all used up leaving them to working nite security at legoland at age 30

I think your point regarding "approximately 15 HS recruits"could change some. Upwards. If they continue to recruit as successfully as they are right now. They will hold some spots for transfers but if they can land some additional top recruits I can see 17 or 18 being possible.

They are at 9 presently. 10 actually as they have an unannounced commit that came late. And Tofi, Dickson, Tokio, Briggs, Morgan, Siale, Jones and Duncan are likely all takes. Mosley maybe as well and a QB. They likely do not get all they want but the trend is good.

Cal has done poorly in HS recruiting mostly under Wilcox. If they can strike paydirt with this class I believe they may extend the limit some. And IMO should.

Probably distantly. Purcell is a prominent family name (of Welsh origins) in Samoa going back generations. Nic Purcell was from New Zealand, where many Samoans emigrated. Taimane is from Hawai'i where many Samoans also emigrated, but went to Kamehameha, which requires Hawaiian ancestry and looks part Asian as well (ie, his family has probably been in Hawai'i for a few generations).
