shocky's FAVORITE recruit in the history of berkeley (which wuz recently ranked by forbes magazine as more better than HARVARD) broncs baker is gonna be the monster's next yoga development project since jaylen brown (who credits me for his recent nba supermax contract with the boston celtics for $305,000,000)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

duke blue devils 45
north carolina state wolfpack 33

offensively the dukies qb1 darian mensah from morro bay is the real ******* deal throwing for 269 yards with zero interceptions, the TAKERS are gonna be severely tested when the duke blue devils (2-2) come to berkeley for the bears next home game on saturday october 4th (r u gonna be there or just watch the game on ur stained sofa like trumpanzee??)

defensively the devils gave up a satanic 531 yards, let's drop 50 when they visit memorial stadium!!

real talk: if the bears treat this roadie to san diego like an all expenses paid cali vacay with fruity drinks & **** then they're gonna get their ******* azzs handed to them by bitter aztecs that didn't get recruited by cal and shamefully flying home at 1:26 am sunday morning with a ******* 3-1 record!!

https://instagr.am/p/DO2fMnEDAPX
san diego aztecs 34
california golden bears 0

weather: beautiful end of summer mid 70s weather in san diego even at the final whistle at 11:00 pm

snapdragon stadium: got an erector set architectural vibe kinda like stanford stadium, how did u shocky get into the game??

there are a million parking lots with color coding & **** so the monster just drives up to the parking area 100 feet from the north end zone...the parking attendant tells me this lot is for aztecs ocean yacht club members or something...shocky gives her 50 bucks & tells her he's a double platinum shamu member...she waves me in with a smile & says "that you are!!"

then at the gate into the stadium shocky tells the curvy brunette yoga female ticket scanner as he gives her 50 bucks that "ima the interim chancellor at berkeley and my academic platform is anti artificial intelligence and smart phones"...she gives shocky a big toothy smile as she ushers him in & asks how long i've been the chancellor to which shocky tells her "mostly today"

pregame warm ups: major RED flag warnings as the guys are oddly quiet and not animated at all as usual 45 minutes before the opening kick off...in the postgame show with paws coach wilcox seems surprised his bears wuz not ready to play a violent physical 60 minutes of football this evening, maybe justin should be on the field during the pregame warm ups to get a better gauge on the mental state of his team

cal's
unmonster offensive line: this room wuz unfocused & angus era beyond breaking bad, jks is staring down his receivers but the o-line is not giving him time to make plays in the vertical downfield passing game & the run game blocking lanes are non existent

bottom line: very interested to see in person next saturday at 3:30 pm which bears shows up to play 60 minutes of ******* football in chestnut hill against much more athletically gifted acc competition

final thoughts: the fantastic cal band during the 2 minute warning in the 4th quarter played "dancing queen" by abba but only because unlike shocky they don't know all the words to "mirrorball" by the arctic monkeys

**** me

it's kinda ironic that the fans that complain the most about the bears not showing up (which is true) are also the same fans that don't actually attend cal football games in person (they are experiencing a life's passion thru some weird further afar portal)

it's an interesting study in disengagement (the most annoying flaws we see in other are usually are own flaws that we perceive in ourselves)

Shocky. If I said to you it is ironic that it is ironic that people that complain that the local restaurant serves bad food don't eat there, would that make sense to you?

It isn't ironic. It is the opposite of ironic. It is completely consistent. The issue is those people want the restaurant to get better, so they comment, but continuing to dine there isn't making that happen.

Many believe Cal has violated their trust. It is up to Cal to win it back. Not up to fans to keep touching the hot stove.

bearly, shocky has always found ur insights to be very interesting & usually thought provoking (translation: ur one of my favorite posters!!)

the point ur missing here tho is that the people that are complaing the loudest about the restaurant aren't actually patrons of said restaurant so from my perspective their views are defined/limited by what the tv camera shows them & wut the tv announcers tell them

but yeah people should do whatevah makes them happy in life...and with that in mind, shocky is gonna be at boston college with his daughter taylor & slim wadie next saturday at 3:30 pm to see how the 2025 cal football season is gonna play out & celebrate fall foliage in new england (the region not the band)...whether we're gonna get food poisoning or not in the back bay is still to be determined

fun fact: shocky would rather have mauna kea hot lava poured on his yoga mat or play in a painful 5+ hour charity scramble golf tournament with outta shape drunk azz cart ballers than eat at shoneys or cracker barrel

virginia cavaliers 48
stanford cardinals 20

offensively the virginia cavaliers (3-1) gotta better qb1 than the stanford cardinals (1-3) but the real difference makers in this game wuz the cavs ball catchers (not to be confused with the bad new bears with klutzy paws) who snagged 24 balls for 384 yards

defensively the cavs d limited the cards rushing attack to only 37 yards for a 1.2 average per rush, either virginia gotta stout front 7 or stanford gotta really ******* bad offensive line because the cards rb1 micah ford got talent

sr tole me jr lives off campus by himself & he feels very welcomed by the staff & his teammates, his son is 100% dialed in on football & his academic work (changed his major from kinesiology last week) and that he's never worried about his hard working son who does things the right way evah getting in trouble

First post here! I actually met Shockey at the PGA Tour tournament in Napa the week of the Minnesota game. We were following Cal alum Colin Morikawa, and our mutual interest and passion in Cal athletics sparked a conversation. We walked numerous holes together and conversed all things Cal football. As a die hard Cal fan, I loved hearing info on the pulse of the team from an inside source. You can tell Shockey really has a great connection with the team, in which he can hear and see things that we can't as fans. He is also just a really genuine guy who is one of us, and truly wants to see Cal reach heights that we haven't been to in a long time. He's a guy that I could talk ball with for hours and would love every second. Overall it was a great interaction that I am extremely glad we had, and I hope to connect with him at a future home game.

While Im here I thought Id give some observations on the team this year and a multi-year outlook. I'll give 2 negatives and 3 positives followed by my outlook.

Positive #1 Famika Anae/Offensive Line
If you've been watching Cal the past few years you know the offensive line hasn't been a strong suit. Since arriving he has really transformed this unit, and most noticeably the pass protection has looked amazing compared to years past. He has also shown a keen ability to recruit in such a short time on campus.

Positive #2 Bryan Harsin/Offensive Coordinator
We all know Wilcox's troubles with OC's (Baldwin, Musgrave, Bloesch). Harsin looks to me to be right there with Spavital as an above average OC which shouldn't be too surprising with his pedigree. The surprising part is that he is doing well with subpar skill position players and a true freshman QB. This gives me hope for the future, but caution in the short term.

Positive #3 New Defensive Coordinators/ Special Teams
Terrence Brown and Vic Sooto have impressed me as coaches taking on new roles and not knowing what to expect. Minus the SDSU game, I thought they did a wonderful job in their gameplanning and I had seen very little drop off after the departure of Sirmon. I can't end this section without mentioning special teams. Kicking, punting, and returning have all truly been a breath of fresh air compared to years past.

Negative #1 Receivers
I think the drops have been talked about more after such a terrible loss, but this has been happening every single game. This is nothing new. Also our receivers are not playmakers (De Jesus is the only one who can make an argument). We don't have any speed or playmakers at the receiver position.

Negative #2 Run Game
After the Texas Southern game, it seems that Cal fans were quick to crown Raphael as the next great lead back. That has been the only good run game of the season and it happened against a subpar opponent. I'd have to watch more tape as to see where the blame lies, whether it be o-line or the backs. I'm leaning towards a mixture of both with more emphasis on the backs lack of speed and playmaking ability.

My outlook for the future is positive in the sense that we are not far from where we want to be. We have our quarterback and Offensive Coordinator. Our O-line is close and young, maybe an addition or 2 in the portal puts us where we want to be while retaining Anae. Skill position players is where we need an upgrade, but the positive outlook is that players should want to come play in this system especially receivers. Defensively, we have the pedigree at DB to where we shouldn't have a problem replenishing year in snd tear out. Our LB position is becoming much of the same and we should still have the tandem of Uluave and Ferrelli next year. Interior D-line will need some help next year, but our edges will be retained while maintaining depth. Overall, we are not far away and I am excited for the future. I hope you guys enjoyed my takes.

So happy for Michael Kim to cap off his year that way. He went from fairly low status on the PGA tour at the start of the year, to a great shot to get into the Masters. Also a great guy (he came to last year's Cal golf fundraiser) and I sat at his table, who is enjoying the new success and sharing it with the fans.

By the way Bill, I played in the fundraiser last Monday at Lake Merced. A blast. The green complexes are diabolical, but the great thing about the course is you can hit a drive a bit off-line, and still have a chance to play a recovery shot, which makes the course fun to play even if you're not striking the ball great.

The less said about Saturday night, the better. I think BC might be the last chance for Wilcox.

great 1st post reese (niner freak), as a +1 athlete who recently played high school football in the east bay u bring a lotta football knowledge to ur spot on analysis, looking forward to ur future posts!!

wut's ******* incomprehensible to me is that the head coach, staff & player leadership couldn't get up for the aztecs, the pregame warm ups with guys very quiet & minimal enthusiasm just kinda going thru the motions, that wuz a major RED FLAG that this team wuz neither focused or dialed in to play a violent physical 60 minutes of football

and then the bears not surprisingly got their ******* azzs kicked sideways, the national attention is now gone with the ******* wind and we're gonna find out who wants to play ******* football this ******* saturday at 3:30 pm in ******* chestnut hill

shocky is not listing who didn't appear to be mentally ready to fight in san diego but he's gonna be watching again (like he always does) the pregame warm ups against boston college & if guys aren't jacked up to play a violent physical 60 minutes of football he's gonna start calling out specific players (like guys who don't hustle to make a tackle after an interception or hustle to help out when a fellow defensive back falls down in coverage) in his next postgame report, got it??

reese, curious how did u get up for big friday nite games & how much impact can anybody other than the individual fire up players??

yeah schulzie's editor tole him his novel is "incomprehensible" but wut's really incomprehensible is the california golden bears football program thinking they could just show up & easily take care of biz against a hungry program with guys with huge ******* chips on their shoulders that didn't get recruited by cal

2025 phoenix open: 2nd round update

michael kim (63, tied for 2nd): for the 2nd day in a row michael only hit 5 of 14 fairways but his sharp iron play & world class putting/short game resulted in no bogeys again en route to birdieing 5 of the his last 6 holes, kim will be in the final group mañana here in the desert

how did this happen??

shocky walked all 18 holes with michael on thursday coaching him up with verbal encouragement setting him up for today's EPIC round!!...fun fact: kim's thursday & friday gallery for the round consisted of a korean lady of undeterminable age & schulzie

ben an (70, tied for 34th): fun fact: ben's longest drive today wuz 359 yards!!

max homa (69, missed cut): it's very encouraging that max wuz 8th in the field in driving accuracy hitting 19 of the 28 fairways

jeff, 100% re: michael kim's exciting arc de triomphe VICTORY in paris, did u watch it on the golf channel at 3:00 am too??

honestly michael's turnaround began at the 2025 phoenix open with first 2 rounds of 69 & then a sizzling 63, it made shocky laugh when after the tournament kim thanked the "galleries" for their support when in reality the only ******* person out there for his first 36 holes wuz a korean lady of undeterminable age & shocky!!

the monster wuz yelling "let's go michael, let's roll baby, go bears" after every good shot which caused his caddie (who at the time wuz not used to his player having any fans following him) looking over at me with a wut the **** smirk but later on friday starting to nod with shocky's hard to ignore verbal encouragement that michael kim is a star star star star star star!!

michael moved up today to #39 in the official world golf rankings, the top 50 at the end of the year get 2026 masters invitations to augusta national for next spring

ben an is currently #72 in the rankings & with a strong finish to 2025 could also join michael, max homa and collin morikawa at the masters...luv ben scrapping the broomstick putter for a conventional putter & he looked comfortable over the ball at silverado on the putting greens (his scoring challenge in napa wuz hitting the narrow azz fairways off the tee box)

and yeah patrick cantlay is not only one of the slowest golfers on planet earth but he also wanted to get paid at the last ryder cup which wuz directly confirmed to me by the wife of a ryder cup assistant who attended along with her husband my son's wedding

as for coach wilcox he's kinda running outta time if he can't fire up his players at boston college, shocky thinks justin is an ethical hard working well intentioned person but not particularly adaptive in chaotic situations (his running off mateen bhaghani basically doomed the 2024 season)...the most effective head coaches in the current crazy azz college world right now are not introverts like wilcox but +2 extroverted personalities like teen spirit dilly at asu & future head coach in waiting mike saffell...with ron rivera already establishing relationships with the players, coaches & staff transitioning to a new head coach would not result in the usual exodus (justin's closest friends peter sirmon is already gone to the nfl, mark few don't coach football & matt bouza is always gonna be in his corner)...bottom line, the infrastructure is in place for a head coaching change if necessary (shocky is personally rooting for justin to succeed in berkeley but this is a biz decision for rivera & chancellor lyons)

glad to hear u had a great time at lake merced (shocky hasn't played in a charity tournament in over a decade & will probably die someday with that streak intact), agreed that gil hanse took a slightly above average layout & architecturally reimagined it into something pretty special particularly the world class collection of fun par 3s...wut holes stood out to u as particularly interesting??

https://instagr.am/p/DOpm5x4kWIt
luv gil deforesting the layout kinda like he did at the olympic lake & los angeles country club (both north & south courses) to widen playing corridors with more strategic options which also opened wind corridors and improved conditioning (firm & fast) with more sunlight but ima hopeful that the club will begin planting more trees on the perimeter (fence line) of the layout to block out the blighted neighborhood views (industrial) & urban traffic noises to make the golf playing experience more peaceful

2025 tindall collegiate tournament: day 1 update

the bears are a kinda disappointing (not an elite field) 6th place with 2nd rounds almost completed on the gold mountain olympic course

after missing the opening tournament with a minor back injury that needed resting sophmore zinqin zhou is 6 under par (tied for 6th place) with 4 holes remaining in his 2nd round...walking (with his moms lisa & vandalus) all 18 holes during the 2nd round of the 2025 ncca championship in may at la costa cheering on every shot of his remarkable bogey free 68 on basically a 7500 yard pga tour kinda setup, z got the potential upside to win the national collegiate player of the year award kinda like michael kim back in the day (the 1st step in this process is winning a collegiate tournament)...watching zhou hit his low stinging 2 iron farther & straighter than a lotta guys driver is unreal to watch in person!!

blueshirt sophmore sihao cong (best hair on the team) is 5 under par (tied for 8th place) with 2 holes remaining in his 2nd round...sihao is just getting incrementally better & better, his development can be attributed to his no bull**** work ethic both at the golf course & in the classrooms of berkeley...just wish the 5'11" 155 lbs cong would track his daily protein grams like pga golfers

playing as a true freshman in his 1st collegiate tournament world amateur ELITE standout (already played in 2 us amateurs including advancing to match play in 2024) xihuan chang is at 4 under par (tied for 10th place) with 2 holes remaining in the 2nd round...xihuan is playing as an individual so his fantastic scoring is not counting for the bears team total...a teammate of chang tole me at silverado last week that xihuan in early qualifying rounds already got pga level short game metrics, wowza!!

https://instagr.am/p/DO7BQ_jDwx1

Actually, it was cool to me to see the things you could see with all the trees removed. I had played there a couple of times previously, but didn't realize until this time that the course is basically two streets away from my old junior high school (Ben Franklin Jr. High in Colma/Broadmoor.

No partiucular holes stood out to me. I just thought it was great to have a course that is playable for the members, because there aren't forced carries or a lot of areas where you could lose a ball, but could be made difficult enough to challenge college players. I think if I played there enough, I would work on the short game shots around the greens, and get to the point where I could score. You really need to be able to play short pitches and chips from tight lies, something most of us who play public gold aren't used to.

jeff, ur not alone, we all struggle with flop shots from tight lies (and that's why shocky putts from everywhere unless there is a bunker directly in line with the pin)!!

the best public course in the bay area that plays like a proper links (like the fantastic melbourne inland sandbelt gems) is the terrific corica park in alameda which is only 10 minutes from the oakland airport & is a FUN walkable design with a tight routing that can be paired comfortably with cal football afternoon or 7:30 pm kickoffs

like lake merced there's ample room off the tee box (as is also the case at augusta national) for even slightly wayward tee balls but that results in challenging angles for approach shots & invariably flop/pitch shots from tight lies that require creative imaginations and that's great architecture!!

and if ur travel adventures take u to los angeles, make sure u tee it up the gil hanse municipal rustic canyon in moorpark which got 60 yard wide playing corridors coupled with 3 jack putting opportunities on the tumultuous contoured putting greens on every hole!!

I've played Rustic Canyon. In fact, I used to be a reporter in Ventura County, and saw on a map in the early 90s the schematic for putting a golf course on the county property there, and was very jealous. Ventura County, between Rustic, Soule Park and Forrest Richardson's work at Olivas Links, is now a pretty good, but not that well know, destination for good golf at a reasonable price.

I've also played Corica South a few times. I think we're playing a tournament on the new North Course before the year ends.

2025 junior ryder cup in new york: 1st day matches

europe's best player & 2026 cal commit callixte alzas lost in the morning match but rebounded for a victory in the afternoon match playing with different euro partners

tomorrow matches will also be played at nassau country club before moving over for the final day singles matches thursday at bethpage black (24 hours before the ryder cup opening tee balls), hopefully collin morikawa will find time to introduce himself in person to our incoming future bears superstar

yeah the future of cal golf is in good hands as callixte competes on the game's largest stages at the cathedrals of golf!!

michael kim update:

2025 tindall collegiate tournament: day 2 update

the bears finished tied for 4th in a weak azz field getting boat raced by an aggregate 48 strokes by the 3 frozen tundra schools that finished above them (byu, utah & washington), ay caramba

the great news is that zinqin zhou bounced back from bogeys on the par 4 2nd & 3rd holes to post a battling 71 to finish 5th in the tournament, z is gonna win a tournament sooner than later if he starts a yoga/meditation practice to improve his back's flexibility & avoid injuries

the good news is that sihao cong shot a 72 to finish tied for 11th & daniel heo got his **** together en route to a 2nd consecutive sparkling 68 to finish tied for 15th

everybody else on the 8 man roster (chang played as a non team scoring individual on the olympic course while moto & trevor played in the individual tournament at the easier cascades course with cox recording a solid 69) gotta lotta room for improvement

yeah maybe it's time for the scrawniest team (other than z & charlie) in college golf to start tracking their daily protein grams like pga golfers & get yoga/meditation practices like shocky/jaylen brown if they evah wanna get to future ryder cups as contestants (and not picking up balls on the range or something)

real talk: boston college got bigger, stronger & faster athletes than san diego state and after a bye week are gonna be ready to play 60 minutes of violent physical football at 3:30 pm this saturday in chestnut hill

if the bears come out flat again it's gonna be boston college 34 cal 0 at halftime

real talk: braden miller is gonna start at right tackle after the starter last saturday nite looked lethargic/disinterested during the pre game warm ups & then played like that during the game and nick morrow is gonna get an opportunity to reclaim the starting left tackle job after not running with the 1s vs minnesota

fafo (r u playing like ur hair is on ******* fire or do u think u can do this **** with no effort??)#

wheels up to new york city, now is a good time to tell you again about the worst thing i ever did in berkeley

https://instagr.am/p/DNTjbziIW7P
and with that being said, this isn't gonna be a pretty story

so shocky wrote a paper for bibliography 128, children's literature, and in rereading it felt it was a technically sound paper but that it lacked interest for the reader...so i totally fabricated & included the following opening paragraph:

"I must confess that I was made uneasy to see Anne Franks's The Diary of a Young Girl on the reading list for this class. Seeing the title on the list raised several burning questions in my mind. Why had I never read this famous book? Why had my father (after a heated and lengthy debate with my mother behind closed doors) removed this work off my bookshelf as a child? It seemed to me that the answers to these questions were somehow linked to my now deceased grandfather. Although my parents never talk about him, I remembered from various bits of information pieced together that Grandpa was a figure of dubious distinction in Hitler's brass during WWII. So I was forced to think. Why were my parents, particularly my father, so reluctant to talk about my grandfather? Could the answers to my grandfather's cloudy role in Germany during WWII be found in The Diary of a Young Girl which was so mysteriously taken off my bookshelf as a child?''

and i also rewrote the following closing paragraph:

"But despite her difficult and sometimes cruel life, Anne Frank did not feel sorry for herself and she never gave up. This is a worthwhile message for both adults and children alike. All in all, The Diary of a Young Girl is a sensitive, well written, and compelling self-portrait of a brave and spirited young girl, that at least for me, will always hold a special place on my bookshelf."

absolutely none of this is true...although i got a german last name, nobody in my family has ever had any connections with any racist groups...i grew up in a culturally mixed family that celebrates individuality & diversity, i'm a ******* mutt raised by a japanese tiger moms (also a berkeley grad, 1st in her family to graduate from college who grew up poor as **** in the city by the bay)

so what did my teachers say in grading the paper?

the professor: "This a fine review, not only perceptive in its commentary but in itself very well written. I hope you will keep on writing, perhaps professionally? A+"

the teaching assistant: "Your paper was very perceptive and moving because the book had a great impact on you. Though you did not generalize about non-fiction, you approached this particular book in a sensitive and understanding way. Thank you for sharing this highly personal and emotional reaction-it was very important for me personally as an Isreali jew, well versed in the literature of the holocaust, to read your reaction to the subject. The book has made you think, grow up, seek further information, and if it has instilled in you the determination not to let the horrible and shameful history repeat itself, then it has served the purpose Anne's father had when he published her diary. A+"

i'm a flawed person but i know i need to set the record straight even if it means that i'm gonna flunk the class so i go to the ta's office hours

i walk in the door & i'm blown away...aubrey (mid to late 20s) is the cutest girl on planet earth (petite & curvy brunette yoga female with sparkling eyes & a dazzling smile) & we talk/laugh for about an hour about our favorite authors, recent concerts & the personalities of doggy dogs...but i never tell her my paper is full of ****, i can't stand the thought of her hating me so quickly

so i ask her if she would like to go bike riding with me at muir woods & stinson beach that weekend (with the idea that i would tell her the truth & also see her in a bikini) & she tells me she would love to go out with me but that the university code of professional standards does not allow teachers to date students

i don't give up that easily so i suggest we bring our doggy dogs, surely there can be no policy against our doggys hanging out together, right?

https://instagr.am/p/BxSgywLBG5x
she looks at me with sad eyes & tells me "this isn't going to happen, it can't happen" and we say our goodbyes

fast forward to a couple of summers ago & shocky takes his daughters shay & taylor to anne frank's house in amsterdam...i write & leave a note to both anne frank & the teacher's assistant apologizing for my actions

you every do anything worser in berkeley?

don't be a dumb azz#

postscript: monster readers probably already know shocky got some serious deep rooted issues that would probably benefit from intensive therapy or something but yeah she wuz a curvy brunette yoga female with a triggering smokeshow PONYTAIL!! (u probably didn't see that coming, rite?)...shocky gotta lotta loose screws (kinda like home depot on inventory days) but with that being said the truth of the matter is that reality is overrated!!
