cal's monster offensive line translations of billy m coach speak:

"good week of self scouting"
translation: listening to shocky

"putting guys in better position"
translation: listening to shocky

yeah billy m just sent me a text, during the 1st series his prescripted plays are gonna include at least 2-3 downfield passes attacking the middle third of the field & also a pitch to superstar jaydn ott in open space where he can do his magic that will be taken to the house at ******* folsom field for a touchdown completely silencing the stoned as **** buffs crowd...but don't tell nobody

nothing lost in translation now (change is in the colorado winds)#

congrats to coach walter chun on his team's championship today at sonoma golf club, the 2022 team appears to be legit 7 maybe 8 deep which is the most depth on the bears since the legendary coach desimone (everybody loves des) days...shout out to junior sampson zheng who finished 2nd in the individual competition with an impressive 10 under par for the 3 rounds with a finishing en fuego 66...also going low is shocking true freshman lefty nathan wang (he got good socks) from fremont tied for 6th at 6 under par...major contributions from asu (#1 ranked stripper school in the world) transfer jeewon park (5 under par), tony chen (5 under par) who raised kangaroos back in his youth & johnny miller's grandson simon kwon (4 under par)

all of this talent will likely return in 2023 including current commit #1 ranked player in the nation eric lee of fullerton who has been compared favorably to colin morikawa coming out of high school...also projected to be an impact player is current commit ethan fang from plano texas the #15 ranked player in the 2023 class...something special is being built in berkeley

next up is the much more deep field nationally competitive isleworth invitational on october 24th in orlando

byeong hun an plays out of nearby lake nona in orlando & is currently #17 in the 2023 fed ex standing in the new pga season...max homa is #1, james hahn is #116, michael kim has missed the cut in all 3 starts & colin morikawa is playing for the 1st time since the prez cup in japan this week at the zozo

Did you guys enjoy some nice meals in NYC?
sorry about canceling the food channel as a cost saving measure therefore missing your 1st season late nite show cookin' with burnski, did you get reoptioned for a 2nd season?

anyways, taylor & her dad walked 25+ miles while people watching (and tryna guess what's going on in their lives?) while listening to new music together (one white bud in each of our ears) & sampling small portions at as many culinary options as possible

izakaya nomad: we stumbled upon this place late at nite during my 1st nite in manhattan, it's very close to taylor's new offices on madison avenue (she's working in high tech sales for a fortune 500 company, competed for the job with no help from nobody)...we loved the small dark vibe & that all the restaurant staff & guests were japanese, it was kinda like being in toyko...we sat in front of the yakitori chef, the teba chicken wings on a skewer were intergalactic tasty...very reasonably priced, will definitely return again perhaps extending an invitation to nycgobears if he's around
https://www.izakayanomad.com/photos

levain bakery: one of our favorite bakeries in the world (b patisserie in san francisco is wonderful too, thxs to the glapions for introducing us to their scrumptious delights), the milk chocolate chunk cookie literally gives the monster a 6th grade boy sugar high & acne
https://levainbakery.com

carbone: very tuff to get a reservation, shock's probation officer got us dialed in...too be honest with you it might be slightly overrated for a world famous restaurant that sells their spaghetti sauces at the trader joe's in north scottsdale
https://carbonenewyork.com/menus.php

bar pitti: around the corner from carbone, the pro tip is arriving at 11:45 am to be near the front of the line when they open for lunch at noon...simple recipes that are perfectly executed (noodles are al dente) in a very friendly & homey setting...rivals the top restaurants in rome & the amalfi coast, it's easy to understand why celebrities do the hang here...bring cash, they don't accept credit cards
https://www.barpitty.com

catch: down the hudson pier this was the flashiest & best dressed crowd on this trip, the pro move is to be on the roof (weather permitting) with a view to a kill...the filet mignon is terrific & taylor loved her lightly seared broccolini...fun how the wait staff in the busy venue with lots of stairs yells "corner" every time they charge around corners with trays
https://www.catchrestaurants.com/location/catch-steak-nyc/

sewer dogs: the monster loves them 5 dollah dogs with grilled onions & ketchup sold outta food trucks on every corner, taylor just laughs & says no

gotta lotta walking in nyc searching for the next meal, we kinda like rescue/foster dogs looking for love

where's fast buck eddie & 5 card marvin?#

cal's monster offensive line depth chart:

the right foot for spencer lovell as previously mentioned here is not sufficiently healed to allow him to compete in his hometown game & bastian swinney will not be traveling with the team this weekend

the major development (which started after the washington state game evaluations) in the o-line room is that true freshman jackson brown is now the back up right tackle behind tj session...in that right tackle is the only position that's got frequent substitutions this season (outside of end of game play), this means jackson is now effectively the 6th offensive lineman in the rotation & 1st guy off the bench, brayden rhome is the 7th lineman & everett johnson is the 8th lineman

very excited to keep an eye on #78 this saturday in person in boulder, make no mistake about it, tony is gonna be watching his son from further afar too

Isleworth will tell a lot about this team's potential, since it's a step up in competition, and it's a very young group. The key is whether they can get three players who can go fairly low consistently. During the Morikawa era, they never managed that. Collin and KK Limbhasut were consistent, but the players behind them struggled, which was why we never made much noise as a team.

Happy to see Brown move up in the rotation. As I argued in another thread, I don't see that we have much to lose, since neither Sessions nor Rhome has been very effective at right tackle. Maybe we catch additional frosh lightning in a bottle a la Vatikani.

Just because Brown is listed as the backup at RT does not necessarily mean he would be first in line to play should Session go down or they want to make a change. Rohme could easily slide into that role. But it does likely mean more practice reps for Brown.

I am not against Brown getting reps over Rohme but I am not sure the staff would do that at present. But everything needs to be on the table. Brown is a good prospect and I am anxious to see him play.

eastcoastcal, when cal's monster class started there were zero mcdonald all americans in berkeley, during the monster era of excellence for the cal basketball program among the 5,000,000+ views there were 5 micky d ballers in jaylen brown, ivan rabb, jabari bird, caleb swanigan & marcus lee who read the monster during high school & made commitments to cal

the most viewed thread on this football board cal recruiting great students was started because the football program was not targeting high gpa student athletes at the end of the jeff tedford era & they needed to be held accountable

cal's monster offensive line is not a finished product, the stewardship is held by the hard working coach mcclure (who scouted marin catholic yesterday after probably brunch at sam's in tiburon) and superstar graduate assistant mike saffell...kinda funny when casual fans say they should be fired/dropped off at the pound in favor of some offensive line coaches from a football factory who have never recruited a single lineman with a 2.7 gpa or higher (not joking here)

cal's monster offensive line is more of a vision than a reality right now, can't wait to the see in person the next chapter in their development in boulder next weekend, this is the struggle that must be

life is not linear#
Wondering. Suddenly, there seem to be a lot of 6'8" OT recruits popping up. Are BB power forwards looking at their chances of NBA vs NFL? Size, coord, quicks. The question would be aggression, there are some who want to lay people out on the hardwood and see their chances to do it as better at OT. ???

the university of california, berkeley=#3 ranked university in the united states of america (including coconino county)

rushinbear, 100% agree with your observation, as the nba becomes more positionless & college basketball continues to be guard dominated, there's really no financial future for muscularly built 6'8" guys as the old power forward position is deemphasized

andre kelly is never gonna get paid in the national basketball league

and there's a lotta money these days for left tackles in the national football league, this season there are 33 left tackles making $3,000,000+ & 10 left tackles making $10,000,000+

so coach mcclure & future head coach in waiting mike saffell are gonna bring in grayshirt nick morrow who is a legit 6'8"...morrow was a dominant basketball player at flagstaff high but realizes there's no future for a 6'8" strong white guy that can't flex out as an elite shooting stretch 4

the marv lewis golf posse at desert highlands includes former boston celtics hall of famer enforcer kevin mckale who was listed during his career at 6'10", he's told me he was actually 6'8" and today he's around 6'6"...mckale has also told me that he would get cut from any team's roster in today's nba, there's no viable role he could fill, physically ******* up the opposing team's bigs & any dumb azz guards that ventured into the paint he was patrolling is not a coveted basketball skill anymore & they call technical fouls these days for lotta of his ****

What with Morrow "grayshirting", does the staff get much of a chance to work with him or even see first-hand how he is developing this year?
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
big c, last season as a high school senior nick morrow was listed at 255 lbs but actually played at slightly less than 250 lbs (high school self reported heights & weights are notoriously inaccurate)...as of late this summer he weighed 265 lbs, his primary directive from the staff is to continue to build his body with good weight/strength...nick needs to be over 300+ lbs and after seeing him play in person his 6'8" body would still look kinda svelte even at 325 lbs

the technical aspects of tackle development & getting coached up by the staff won't happen until nick arrives in berkeley in january & then get intense during spring ball

his basketball quick twitch athleticism & superior foot speed (he ran away from safeties as a tight end in the game i saw) gives him potential all pac 12 honors upside with the significant qualifying caveat that he will need to put on the necessary weight...and that's not a given, will craig never got 300+ lbs & brayden rhome in 4 years in the program still isn't 300+ lbs, bodies are kinda like snowflakes with different metabolisms & dnas

the days of massive statues at tackle are over, nick morrow is a superior athlete

You refuse to get it. You diminish the strength of your presentation when you resort to race, even in jest.

Didn't used to be the case, because both sides realized that it was meant in a guy/macho jest kind of way. There could be give and take.

We are in a new environment now, where all bets are off, but that doesn't mean that outward statements are not noted. It's going to take us a while to dig out of it and come to a place where we can openly express ourselves sincerely. No reason why it can't start here.

There is probably a semi-complex and even somewhat mysterious (to the layperson) skillset that goes into playing offensive tackle. I remember here we were watching Freddie Tagaloa play high school basketball and that, combined with the fact that he looked great in a football uniform, had people drooling. Oops, he was a stiff.

Some things we know:

tall is good
long arms are good
quick feet are good
300+ lbs. is good
strength is good
balance and agility are good
ferocity and tenacity are good

I'm hoping that Nick Morrow (I know, I know, those closer to him call him Eric, but I'm not anywhere near the inner-circle) has a personal trainer that has a great knowledge of O-line skills.

Also hoping he's long-term rock solid to be a Golden Bear. Let's NIL this guy!

Is he hanging out at home in Arizona until January?

ccajon, think there's a whole lot more wbb fans than that, coach charmin got one of the top shooting guards in the nation in superstar jayda curry who averaged 18.6 ppg, the 1st freshman in conference history to lead the pac 12 in scoring...the team's trajectory has been flattened the last couple of seasons because the playing rotation at guard has included too many 5'6" & smaller guards that struggle defending against p5 competition in the current man on man defensive scheme, create their own shots offensively against taller defenders & unable to fight thru on & off ball picks/screens which has resulted in the chronic injuries to the guards along with the poor health/physical conditioning of the bigs which has created rebounding/in the paint defensive issues

jayda is gonna get some help this season at guard/wing from defensive ball stealing hawk/dimes facilitator leilani mcintosh, 3 point en fuego shooter jazlen green, instagrammer mia mastrov & foreign exchange international students alma elsnitz & ornela muca along with a much needed infusion of battle tested talent in transfer newcomers karisma ortiz (texas) & kemery martin (utah)...incoming dragon amaya bonner is a +1 athlete but gotta work on her crooked azz shooting stroke, she should do the hang with my buddy joel brown...bella stevens averaged 19.9 pgg at pasatiempo high school

evelien lutje schipholt from the netherlands got the shooting ability (she shot 48.9% on fgs last season) to take her game to the next level & average 15+ ppg game this season along with continuing her rebounding development (team leader 6.8 rpg)...evelien will hopefully finally get some support from gutty & smart as **** undersized jaydn bush & 6'7" intriguing sela heide but the real x factor may be fellow poly bad azz peanut tuitele (colorado) & 6'4" claudia langarita (usf) who is a ******* nightmare match up with her ability to knock down 3 pointers from the goth district in barcelona

my favorite player is michelle ugonne onyiah, she is an effervescent bouncy bundle of energy with a zillion watt smile kinda like gennifer brandon & likewise she got virtually unlimited upside, watching her brings me the same undeniable joy that i get during my visits every week to animal rescue/foster shelters as it fills me with hope

michelle, i haven't set foot in my haas in around 6 years since my termination as a floor seat donor/director of recruiting/gameday energy during cal's monster class which was an era of basketball excellence in berkeley but i might make an exception to see you in person this season, you are that special & i know this in my heart to be true

exclusive cal's monster offensive line portal recruiting update:

the staff is extremely interested in learning more about former 5 star (highest ranked tackle in the 2019 class, actionable offer from alabama) wisconsin offensive tackle 6'6" 313 lbs logan brown who was dismissed yesterday afternoon from the badgers football program for delivering a roundhouse uppercut to a teammate (knocked unconscious) in practice ala draymond green (fined, set to rejoin the warriors)

good people sometimes do stoopid **** (hitting women is never acceptable, that's a total deal breaker), geep via his brother paul (who won 72% of his games) is uniquely well connected to gather the necessary information to ascertain whether brown would be a good fit or not in berkeley, these conversations have already been going on for a while...athletically this +1 athlete (his knee flex & mobility is off the charts) would be a potential impact future starter on the offensive line...logan gotta family now, he knows he's gotta start planning for life after his football days r done (nfl dollars not guaranteed to nobody)

logan brown is not a dumb azz, he wuz an academic all big 2021 selection, he's not gonna transfer to an academically piece of **** clown azz school like michigan state like t grizzly & harvard don't got a good football program

logan got 2 years of remaining eligibility after he matriculates at his new school
