I appreciate the Bear Insider contributions of both Shocky and Chapman. Better to shake things up a little, as opposed to same ol', same ol'. We're here to be entertained (I mean, to an extent). Chapman has really crossed the line here, but, OTOH, Shocky purposefully posts daughter pics and respects a free forum ("censorship is never the right move" ... quote from him). Chapman isn't going to comment on my daughter because I don't post pics of her.

Let people say what they want; conclude what they want, think what they want, react how they want (within reason).

chancellor christ is 78 years old, her days are winding down in berkeley & the next chancellor is realistically not gonna give jim knowlton his almost $30,000,000 subsidy to continue his current failed sociological experiment of 30+ teams that are financially unsustainable

knowlton is like a con man on the streets of new york city with his constant moving of the shells (the covid excuses are particularly disingenuous) when in reality many of the challenges facing cal athletics are his own doing:

*****failed to rightsize the department by cutting sports, sandy barbour had the right idea

*****hiring an unlikeable head basketball coach (that has run off all the previous talent & that got zero interest in selling/branding the program to anybody which is why haas is gonna be empty again this season) who then hired the oldest coaching staff in the united states at 200 years & then extending his contract for almost $2,000,000 from 2024 to 2025

*****hiring like minded woke bureaucrats such as his cfo & media/communications directors who share his anti football & men's basketball mindset but ironically continuing to support the evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil as his chief of staff

*****hiring a diversity bureaucrat when in reality EVERY cal coach should be an advocate for diversity, you don't need somebody sending emails & showing up at a march to make that happen

the corrective action plan in berkeley includes cutting sports to 15 programs that win championships with an emphasis upon football & men's basketball which are critical to campus spirit & bring alums back on gamedays & furthers their passions for donating to berkeley

all of the cut sports should guarantee the schollys for the impacted athletes if they choose to stay at cal until such time that they graduate

one of the arguments made by out of touch further afar left white liberals like carol & jim is that sports like the predominantly black track teams allow opportunities for people of color...my mentor professor dr harry edwards (led the black revolt at the mexico city olympics back in the day) would tell you that sports need to be deemphasized in the black communities, intellectualism and academic achievement should be viewed as the pathway to economic success, not jumping over hurdles...all of the cut sports should see an equal number of academic openings in berkeley for really smart & ambitious black high schoolers (particularly those who are 1st generation college attendees in their families) regardless of their athletic talents or limitations

so whose the person to get this done?

it's not the shell game master jim knowlton who is playing the long con until his 2029 retirement date (which was based upon false information re: the northwestern athletic director position he gave the chancellor in negotiating/leveraging his long term contract)

the next athletic director should be current football chief of staff andrew mcgraw who graduated from berkeley & got 26 years of experience within the athletic department

we need new speeches in berkeley, not the tired excuses of a con man & his bureaucrats

Love you bill and this subject is particularly close to my (and SCT Jr. hear and future college aspirations) but due to Prop 209 Cal can NOT consider race in applications. It is a stupid stupid STUPID law (we can take this off line folks if you wish). Add in, pending the SOCTUS decision in the Harvard/NC cases, academically gifted AA have numerous opportunities at private and out of state schools Cal has a SIGNIFICANT diversity problem.

Now I am NOT defending the Track Team and that pathway to diversity in the undergrad population. But I also get that the elimination of several sports would, in at least the short and medium term, make Cal less diverse (and it already is one of the least diverse UCs there is)

While Shocky occasionally (or perhaps frequently) crossed over the mysoginstic line I never DESIPISED him. I thought he could be tone deaf - espcially in some of the objectifacations during moments (I remember one the day of a Harvey Weinstein arrest) when I probably was in poor taste. I would call him out.

But fundamentally he CARES. He cares to the point of attending games while living in Arizona. He is TRYING to infuse this fan base with some FUN and some excitement at a time when frankly that is at the lowest point I can ever remember (maybe the early 1970s?).

I skim Bill for some fun. I sorta roll over his posts about his daughter - fashion and NYC never being very important to me. I read 4th generation for insights and WIAF for his smart take on the business of athetics - something I am also interested in. Silencing voices feels fairly stupid on a free and public message board. Let a thousand flower bloom (and may you ALWAYS have powder days the 1st morning you get up to ski the back bowls).

while continuing to internally develop huge upside jackson brown (will hopefully make his bears debut this saturday in south central & get gameday snaps), injured blue shirting trent ramsey (gotta lotta energy & talent) & +1 athletic (for his 6'8" size, gotta get to 300+ lbs asap) greyshirt nick morrow when he arrives in berkeley this january

3) close on 4.0 gpa alligator death roll wrestling isaiah kema & 3.88 gpa pancake chef at the ******* waffle house austin boyd as the offensive line room is rightsized from the current 14 scholly to 16 schollys for next season

It was a big step up for Session and he didn't arrive at Cal until summer. The staff (such as it is) hopefully has an idea if he might be able to step things up considerably with a dedicated off-season. Maybe in 9 mos., he's stronger and also more agile... and more confident about what he needs to do. Uncertain.

no it's not any of the men's ballers that got crooked azz shooting mechanics (despite a coaching staff that got 200 years of experience on planet earth), it's all american superstar jayda curry who scored 30 points including 8 3 pointers in the cal's women 80-58 exhibition victory vs vanguard

stats 101 refresher, 8 of 10 3 pointers is kinda better than 2 of 18 3 pointers

5'10" "175 lbs" running back speedster javian "the jet" thomas from local mcclymonds high school in oakland just got a 2023 offer from coach thompson


the 3.4 gpa true student athlete is actually around 165 lbs kinda like the shockster/colin morikawa in real life which is why most of his offers are from non p5 schools but that don't mean the mack guy don't got +1 speed which can turn 4 yard gain pitchouts into 50+ yard sprints to the end zone at memorial stadium


javian which kinda rhymes with javid if you say it real fast currently got a conditional offer which means the most fragile room on the team with respects to potential off season portal defections gotta be sorted out first after the ucla game before a final decision is made as whether or not to turn it into an actionable offer which will likely be accepted on the spot

aristotle has never coached in an environment with the demands of big time running back egos before, in the past he's been able to play a stable of running backs with daily competition & everybody happy kinda like a 1950s football movie...that **** don't fly today, now the best talent gotta be ruthlessly featured for national football league pay days

so what's gonna happen?

retaining jaydn ott is clearly the program's #1 priority, the uber talented superstar is academically focused & truly loved by the staff/teammates which favors his return to berkeley

decarlos brooks is tough as **** & got a sudden burst too, does he want to graduate after 4 years in berkeley & potentially rush for 1,000+ yards next season in flagstaff at nau against long bus ride competition?

damien moore gotta decide do he wanna try to continue to work & claw his way back into more snaps or bail?...his body language on the sidelines in boulder kinda look like his dog died

ashton hayes got jaydn level speed but his moms not happy with his role

chris street probably not going nowhere except physical therapy as he rebuilds his body

to be honest with you, walk on ashton stredick's ridiculous talents have been totally wasted thus far in berkeley by aristotle, not only is he arguably the smartest bear he deserves a full football scholly after this season & an opportunity to receive snaps right now...guys like joni a think ima joking when i say ashton stredick is the future of cal football but ima ******* dead serious



if all 5 of the current scholly running back on the roster transfer after this season & that means my boy ashton gets 25+ carries a game with javian backing him up for 5+ carries a game next season, ima 100% ok with that with that drama free scenario

this ain't pop warner football, coach (take it to the o, ashton & javian don't live on 63rd)#

When advocating the cutting of sports (as Sandy Barbour did who I admit might have been way ahead of the game), one must be mindful that as soon as a woman's sport is cut from intercollegiate athletics, the University must then meet the exact ratio of undergraduates (male/female) to comply with Title IX.

Currently, Cal does not comply with Title IX from a pure numbers basis.

They are "complying" with Title IX by demonstrating that they are progressing towards compliance by increasing the amount of facilities and recreational resources to the female undergrad population. The female undergrads are given a survey, and if the University scores decent marks on how female undergrads feel about the school giving them athletic/recreational facility opportunity, then Cal is said to be in "compliance" with Title IX.

But the minute that a women's sport is cut, the University no longer has that "touchy/feely" survey to rely on.
It MUST COMPLY based on a strict ratio of male to female undergrads.

THat is why the sports taht will be axed are all on the mens side. It is sad but the case. And there isn't a very good argument FOR them unless the endowmens raised cover both them and the womens. So if Baseball wants to be there they need to fund themselves AND softball.

huge props to shareef & dee dee (grew up in oakland, berkeley grad) on their generous donation to the cameron institute

when jimmy k extended the unlikeable fox's contract from 2024 to 2025 did he weigh the fact that the rahims did not want their 4 star son son jabri (who was born in mountain view) to play for the last 2 basketball coaches which has resulted in him playing at originally virginia & now georgia?

or to put in another way, shareef encouraged jaylen brown to play for coach martin but would not send his own son to play for wyking & fox, got it?

jimmy k got a plan but it don't include winning men's basketball games

for the record coach tracy webster with support from both jaylen brown (same hs as jabri) & cal's monster class were actively recruiting jabri back in the day...if coach martin's son joshua had been cleared off the wait list for admissions to berkeley, there is zero doubt that impact talent jabri (to the delight of his parents dee dee & shareef) would be a california golden bear today

Shocky, any idea if our guys on the team feel like they'll stay another year? Namely Ott, our WRs, Plummer, etc. Need a lot of them for next year but I know they're competitive monsters so the losing has to be taking its toll right? What's the vibe in the locker room
