shout out of appreciation to cal athletics ticket manager dustin coder for always going the extra step in providing outstanding service in a prompt & helpful manner, he follows in the tradition of chris celona who is now running arizona's ticket operations who in speaking with major wildcat donors in north scottsdale is containing his tireless commitment to excellence (plus he got a new home in marana & new kiddos)

how can you spot a lazy azz cal athletic department lazy azz bureaucrat?

they "manage" their communications & don't respond to emails kinda like mike williams (wouldn't even respond to doug goldman) back in the day & jimmy "shell game" k who still hasn't responded to my 18 points of concern (as outlined in an earlier post in the monster thread) email...maybe if us just ignore the problems, they will go away?

it all starts on the top, that's why andrew mcgraw is our future athletic director in waiting kinda like how mike saffell is our future football head coach in waiting

search committees are for losers:

the next cal athletic director needs to be andrew mcgraw (cal football chief of staff, berkeley grad & 26 years within the athletic department), bringing in another clueless outsider like knowlton is not the move, andrew would be 100% making informed decisions at 7:17 am on day 1
there is a growing awareness that the problems/issues relating to cal athletics are institutional in nature because of jim knowlton's disconnect with the fan/donor base re: his financial bankruptcy path with 30+ sports that mostly nobody cares about & his remarkable ability to hire lazy azz unnecessary bureaucrats

that's why the next athletic director is gonna be the former quarterback at pasatiempo high school:
https://www.santacruzsentinel.com/2018/04/06/andrew-mcgraw-a-santa-cruz-high-alum-is-cal-footballs-go-to-guy/

almost nobody shares jimmy k's failing woke vision of future quidditch trophies, it's time to turn the keys over to a berkeley grad who will emphasize the revenue sports & make last saturday's gameday experience a regular occurrence in berkeley

Do you know of Spencer Lovell will be back next year or at the very least available against UCLA?

That was an awesome game - walking to the stadium, hanging out in the beer garden watching the ESPN E60 on the Play, a truly fun day. Knowlton and Christ should be imprisoned for wasting the gold mine that is memorial stadium and passionate fans.

excerpt from the upcoming december issue of the harvard medical journal:

interviewer: in our 102 years of publication this is arguably the most exciting interview in the history of the hmj, this month we are speaking with esteemed university of california, berkeley grad (which is the #1 ranked public university in the world), internationally recognized golf course architecture rankings expert/connoisseur & aspiring substitute yoga teacher dr shocks

dr shocks: what up?

interviewer: would you please explain for our readers why rushing the field/stormin' the court is so important?

dr shocks: look ima wanted in 2 states can't move wrong but rushing the field/stormin' the court transmits tiny neurons of endorphins and chlorophyll from the bottoms of your toes to the happiness main alternator in the brain which brings ******** unabated pure joy to the human soul as they walk on the turf at memorial stadium and the court at haas pavilion after epic victories against the forces of pure evil like stanford

interviewer: and why is that so important?

dr shocks: those people that experience this magical journey from the seats to the playing fields where they joyously mingle and celebrate with other fans and the players creates lifelong fans of cal football and basketball which directly impacts future season ticket purchases and donor contributions

interviewer: hmmm, very interesting, what is the newest golf course design in the world you are most excited to see in 2023?

dr shocks: that would be the new coore & crenshaw design near tara iti which is in the dunes north of auckland new zealand, a tight walkable routing with ocean views on every hole and likely beauty that the mind cannot begin to comprehend

interviewer: with your world travels in mind can you speak new zealander?

dr shocks: not yet but jamieson sheahan is teaching me australian, i can now tell my rescue/foster dogs and cats to quit taking dumps under the baby grand piano and that goes double for you minko stinko

interviewer: would you please share with our readers the motto of your proposed yountville t-rex yoga/meditation studio?

dr shocks: sure, "don't be a dumb azz (better to palm a tight azz)"

interviewer: wow, thanks dr shocks for your time!...here's 2 bottles of cold perrier

dr shocks: thx, no worries, life is not linear

Hmmm. Not sure why he would be looking to go to Oregon when the obvious and better choice is to stay home in the Bay Area and go to the best public university for both education and athleticism. JMHO. I know nothing about any of his decisions or any of the other team members decisions .

I could see why Mahaney went to St. Marys instead of Cal, but again, I would not have done that. MHO.

I went to Campo. Didn't want to stay in Moraga after high school, but what a great place to grow up.

Am up in the Bay Area this week and may make it to both Cal and the Campo games. Will see how the weekend break goes.

Cheers to a great holiday BI!

congrats to benji, marshall & the entire cal football staff is assembling thus far a very strong 10 player 2023 class of true student athletes in what will be a very limited space available scholly class

zurich ashford (3.62 gpa), defensive end
ben marshall (3.5 gpa), tight end
ryan mcculloch (4.1 gpa), edge defender
tiumalu afalava (4.1 gpa), defensive end
cade uluave (3.85 gpa), outside linebacker
sailasa vadrawale (3.46 gpa), cornerback
nyziah hunter (3.0+ gpa), wide receiver
nick morrow (3.7 gpa), offensive tackle (grayshirt, will arrive in january)
ethan baxter (strong australian student), punter (already on roster, will take sheahan's scholly in january)
michael luckhurst (4.37 gpa), kicker (already on roster as walk on, will take longhetto's scholly in january)

the university of california, berkeley=#3 ranked university in the united states of america
https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/

update: ethan baxter has not been guaranteed the punter scholly for 2023, he will be given every opportunity to showcase his skillset/development during spring ball

therefore there are now 9 public commitment for the 2023 class plus 1 silent commitment who got a 4.0 gpa

there are 3 scholly players out of eligibility in daniel scott, odua isibor & jamieson sheahan...the other 2023 scholly slots will come from attrition of which multiple opening have already been communicated/confirmed with existing players

the state of arizona's leading high school punter kanyon floyd from horizon high school in phoenix made an unofficial visit to berkeley for the big game

kaynon is a 2024 blue chip prospect & is not a dumb azz, he got a 4.79 gpa

check out floyd's prototypical nfl punting form, he looks like longtime cal nfl standout bryan anger with his remarkable leg extension thru kicks which results in booming rockets into the desert air

during his time in berkeley with his dad he got to spend time with coach barton & the special teams guys, elite 2023 longsnapping prospect also from phoenix david bird has already reached out to him to offer encouragement

kanyon gotta put on some weight/muscle to achieve his upside but make no mistake about it this is a very special talent with already berkeley level academics plus he got the best name of any prospect in the 2024 class

2023 class portal priorities:

1) offensive line-an impact potential starting tackle is the program's #1 recruiting priority...period

matthrew cindric's decision on whether or not to return to berkeley will be critical for cal's monster offensive line as will be ben coleman & his dad evaluating nfl feedback

greyshirt nick morrow got more footspeed than any of the current tackles in the program and both blue shirting jackson brown & trent ramsey got upside potential at tackle

bears gotta close on interior brawlers isaiah kema & austin boyd in the 2023 high school class while still staying in touch with potential future flip candidates soane faasolo from menlo-atherton & elishah jackett from el moderna...lots of moving parts here which will be more clear after this weekend

jc tackle maxwell iheanchor got a conditional offer

2) apex predator edge defenders: shame odua isibor got injured for most of this season, i don't share benji's hope that there's anybody out there that's better than the current guys in the program but who knows, you gotta put out feelers at such a critical position of need...multiple high school commits in the 2023 class could develop into that role, today's college football game requires someone who plays in the opponents backfield creating havoc & mayhem

3) not a lotta big hits/interceptions from the cornerbacks this season...lu & jeremiah are both special but whose gonna be the 3rd taker?...that's why jc standout kapena guishiken is the program's #1 junior college target prospect at this time

javien plummer: true freshman from virginia got great size at 6'3" 210 lbs, there will be scholly departure(s) from the bottom of the wide receiver depth chart so spring ball will be an opportunity for javien to ball out as ongoing discussions are realistic re: future gameday playing snaps particularly with the summer bridge arrival of speedster immediate impact nyziah hunter from salinas & hopefully big mouth pwo robbie m too

kenden robinson jr: city college of san francisco transfer got an unreal ability to snag passes with only one hand, kenden was rooting hard this weekend for fellow walk on wide receiver grant daley who got 3 snaps vs stanford...keep in mind all of the stanford wr snaps were taken by jeremiah hunter (66 snaps), mavin anderson (61 snaps), jmichael sturdivant (42 snaps) & monroe young (28 snaps)...multiple scholly guys buried in coach toler's wr room got decisions to make

elijah diaz: extremely hard working true freshman preferred walk on edge defender from eleanor roosevelt high school in corona where he was an academic all leaguer, a lotta people are gonna be working for mr diaz someday

current scholly wide receivers on the roster (10 players):

jmichael sturdivant (3 years of remaining eligibility after this season, superstar with nfl upside)
jeremiah hunter (2 years, got all the skillz to be all pac 12 in 2023)
mavin anderson (3 years, fleet footed receiver/runner, will breakout next season with new oc)
monroe young (1 year, vastly underrated/underappreciated, best blocker in wr room with great hands)
mason starling (2 years, got all pac 12 potential)
tommy christakos (2 years, leaves his feet on passing attempts, ends up on turf which negates his superior height)
justin richard baker (2 years, punt returner not in the wr rotation unless there are multiple injuries)
mason magnum (3 years, time to just focus on track?)
aiden lee (2 years, injured this season but not likely to gain traction in the playing rotation)
javien plummer (4 years, lots of upside)

kenden robinson jr (1 year, took the long road home)
trond grizzle (3 years, park city native got good size & a great name for a california golden bear)
chris rogers (2 years, acalanes standout put up numbers in high school)
jordan king (4 years, sure handed from portland, this guy not eating voodoo donuts)

incoming scholly wide receiver:
nyziah hunter (4 years, world class track speed with physicality, watch out, this **** is getting live)

potential incoming scholly wide receiver:
jackson harris (4 years, berkeley high school wr 66 catches for 24 tds & 1427 yards, cal vs stanford decision)

I think the team would benefit from some of the receivers and backers finding nice landing spots elsewhere like Niko R and others. This team needs to over-recruit on both lines for the next few years. Team is too soft right now and that needs to be corrected right away in the portal and with a far better S & C program!!

89b, 100% agreed that cal's monster offensive line lacks brute strength, bend, mobility & quick twitch movement which is a reflection of coach johnson's s&c program

how can it be that a high schooler sioape vatikani entered cal during summer bridge as arguably already the strongest player in the program???...a true freshmen working out in a musty rinky dink high school weightroom with old weights is stronger than all of our linemen who have been in the program for 1-5 years training in our $150,000,000 state of the art high performance center???...wut???

during multiple games this season the o-line has been pushed back 5-7 yards on every play with a total collapse of the pocket, it's kinda amazing that jack plummer isn't getting medical treatment from latina nurses at the el monte spinal & taquito institute

but don't worry i sent an email to coach johnson last week asking if he's gonna customize the s&c program for cal's monster offensive line this offseason & also asked him if he personally got a yoga/meditation practice like me & jaylen brown...will print his response once it's received

There could be any number of reasons why our O-linemen don't get that "push" or just aren't strong enough...

- they weren't big/strong enough to start out with (too far to catch up)
- they had actually maxed out a lot of their potential in high school
- genetic limitations as far as how their bodies respond to strength training
- strong, but strength doesn't translate to O-line play (heard they call Driscoll "the Anvil")
- not working hard enough (blame on position coach, or on S & C coach, or on themselves, or a combination of these)
- doing wrong kinds of workouts

Surely there are other possible reasons, as well. I'd be interested in hearing more reporting about this.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?

big c, let's break it down for one of our cal's monster offensive linemen, ok?

brayden rohme is from chandler arizona & he got a really athletic family, dad mike played offensive line for ucla back in the day & is currently a detective with the city of phoenix keeping our valley of the sun safe from bad guys, moms jamie played volleyball at ucla & arkansas and sister tatum played volleyball at texas tech

coach mcclure often stated that brayden is "the 1st guy to practice & the last guy to go home"...rohme is very coachable & works hard both at practices and in the s&c program along with being a strong student in berkeley...basically he's a 6'6" unicorn

the shockster's take is that the nutrition and s&c programs have not facilitated his full development at this time, ok?...and this has resulted in an undersized tackle in the pac 12 that lacks the size to consistently impose his will on gamedays despite have the heart & passion to do so...so this is a reflection of coach johnson's s&c program and ultimately the fault of coach wilcox in that he got a room full of offensive linemen in the same boat (just like mark fox got a roster of players with uncorrected broken down shooting mechanics that can't knock down wide open 3 pointers)

so let's take a look at brayden's weights thru the years keeping in mind he got a fast metabolism from 2 super athletic good looking parents
https://bearinsider.com/s/1142/brayden-rohme-why-i-chose-cal

2018 perry high school-253 lbs
2019 cal football-260 lbs
2020 cal football-280 lbs
2021 cal football-285 lbs
but then brayden got really sick (mono type of deal) before 2022 spring ball, he was listed as 280 lbs for the spring game but in talking to him in person at the spring game he looked closer to 260 lbs
2022 cal football-285 lbs

285 lbs is not enough weight to be a dominating starting left tackle (or right tackle) in the pac 12, this offseason the s&c program needs to be dramatically reviewed by external nfl/college resources and modified/customized to ensure rohme is ideally 300 lbs for the 2022 spring game & 315 lbs for the 2023 fall season

and yeah every member of cal's monster offensive line including the new offensive line coach & coordinator (clue: that includes pedro guerrero's wife) needs a yoga/meditation practice like shocky & jaylen brown too

5'11" 184 lbs malone mataele, utah's starting cornerback (4 starts this season, 5 starts last season & 2 starts in the covid shortened 2020 season) entered the portal on monday & received an offer from the 3 musketeers (the felonious takers law firm of brown, watson & brown) today

mataele is a cali kid & played at santa margarita high school before heading to salt lake city, the bears staff offered him in 2017 in due to his +1 athleticism & 3.5 gpa, he's not a dumb azz

check out this video, like most utes defensive backs he plays with extreme physicality which has been lacking this season from the bears corners & nickels which outside of lu & jeremiah have not delivered big hits in the run game or been opportunistic with interceptions

malone is graduating from utah with a major in sociology & got 1 year of remaining eligibility

yeah cal is earning a reputation with poly true student athletes who wanna play in the diverse san francisco bay area while pursuing their nfl aspirations, malone could be that impact nickel back that starts game 1 next september
