This just shows that Lyons' job and that of the new AD won't be that easy. Supporters of the non-revenue sports are not going to just shrug and agree to have them shut down.
diablo, wish u nothing but the best in rooting for ur favorite olympians in paris this summer but the truth is that the cal athletic department's crushing financial debt cannot be solved by printing more money like the united states federal government or raising taxes like the state of california
This just shows that Lyons' job and that of the new AD won't be that easy. Supporters of the non-revenue sports are not going to just shrug and agree to have them shut down.
jeff, ur statement is 100% on the money, the biggest pushback will be from jack clark when rugby is reclassified as a club sport
during the cal's monster class era clark called me on my private cell phone number (would not transparently share with me how he got my #) out of the blue to yell at me...his key points were they he had no other option than to report yanni hufnagel to administration when the female reporter (who wuz jealous of my direct communications with the entire staff re: prospect recruiting including jaylen brown) tole him about huf's inappropriate comments at jupiter the nite of the bears upset victory over of then #1 ranked arizona and that is wuz not his intent to work against the basketball program
clark also tole me he would send me financial information re: the rugby program, he never followed thru on that commitment despite my giving him my email address
lastly clark agreed with me that the rugby roster size wuz too large & that it needed to be reduced...he never followed thru on that & today there are 55 counters on the rugby roster..."counters" is the key metric in title ix compliance & measures the number of roster spots for both males and females...the definition of "counters" does not weigh whether or not a student athlete is on a scholly
stu gordon knows baseball's days r numbered, repurposing the evans diamond property should result in a negotiation that reduces the athletic department debt with the central campus by tens of millions of dollars...baseball currently got 46 counters
Baseball is most vulnerable. Rugby can probably self fund, but the roster size creates Title IX problems. That may be an issue with crew as well. I suspect track will be an issue from a diversity standpoint, and because of performances like the discus record that was just broken. I have no problem with any sports being retained if they can pay for themselves, like I understand men's golf does.
*Pay for themselves + an equal number of female spots
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.
To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

^ wrong board, the truth is that track & field is not sustainable on a go forward basis with the impending existential financial tsunami that will end cal athletics as we all know it...the next athletic director gotta lotta tough but necessary rightsizing which will include the cutting of the men's & women's track programs (with all schollys honored thru graduation) & the repurposing of the valuable land upon which edwards stadium sits for the greater good of the university & a negotiated internal accounting reduction by the central campus of tens of millions of dollars of the massive currently accumulating athletic department debt which is overlooked in every single knowlton notes which are crafted in conjunction with the clueless markeisha
"Wrong board?" So golf news cuts it on this board, even if from alums, yet a Cal STUDENT breaks a World record, in an Olympic year no less, and you are going to call him out? You want "rules" for YOUR thread, then maybe lay it out there... I agree that the Track and Field footprint might be more valuable for the university in another capacity, probably more so than any other sport (but soccer would have to exist elsewhere?) . But the program itself will continue on if major donors comes forward right? And, as Field Hockey proved to you and others, we certainly don't know all the dollars in play at any given time?
A.) It's an Olympic Year, so I am going to celebrate CAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES and their successes.
B.) Let me know when Rich Lyons fires our incompetent athletic director.
C.) Let me know when a new athletic director hires a winning football coach.
Peace out.
There has never been a context where the word "successes" was an understatement! The effing longest standing record in Track and Field!! And he is still a student!!!!! Wait, a possible Olympic medal for a Cal athlete in a sport not associated with water?! I am all for celebrating great Cal athletic accomplishments...Track and Field doesn't exist in 5 years? Complete speculation, that will be handled way above my pay or donation grade....

Yes it is. Mykolos Alekna. He broke the longest standing world record in Track & Field, which stood since 1986. This is an unbelievable athletic feat for a junior in college. He is redshirting this year to prepare for the Olympics.
But somebody here would rather post soft porn and his daughter's Instagram posts. And immature taunting posts featuring monkeys….
alky, ur rite, shocky got zero interest in basically all professional team sports such as the nfl, nba, mlb & nhl along with rugby, quidditch, track & field and basically all olympic sports, got it?

anyways in going to today's princess courtney's mama bear nooner modern yoga class, shocky had an epiphany re: the 3 causes of why some people are crabby...gonna share these transformational insights with u for FREE but if u feel compelled to pay me then leave 5 bucks in an unmarked enveloped underneath the blue & gold rock at the 3rd exit off treasure island, ok?
first of all, breathing is really ******* important...deep breathing allows the full release of stress/tension which is kinda important late in the 4th quarter of a tied football game on the road in a hostile acc venue...plus audible breathing is kinda like retying a ponytail, it's very triggering
secondly, drinking lots of water helps ur body release unnecessary toxins & facilitates the recovery from any injuries...tryna minimize the consumption of h20 cuz u wanna maximize ur workout is a dumb decision https://instagr.am/p/C4_BUfYOhUq thirdly, lots of sleep is extremely essential particularly as many afternoon naps as possible...dreams facilitate finding clarity to your life's purpose & stimulates the imagination for creativity...and don't you know that doggy dogs luv to snuggle up with their humans on the cloud to catch up on their sleep too? https://instagr.am/p/CgNJnEuvtpf
2025 6'3" 275 lbs defensive tackle carmelo brooks paetow high school in katy texas is gonna officially trip to the left coast on june 20th-23rd
brooks is a physical high motor defender that attacks ball carriers with a relentless passion, this is the type of hard azz texas high school football that the university of calveston is seeking for it's 2025 monster class
carmello is not a dumb azz, he got a 3.6 gpa & visited duke last weekend
the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (for those that wanna build generational wealth thru nfl development with coach browning & hard work in the classrooms of berkeley) https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/
buffalo & foxy, valium is NOT the solution, a yoga/meditation practice is 100 times more effective plus them curvy brunette yoga females go to modern yoga too!
https://instagr.am/p/CwDwuwRPTBx aidan & his parents (berkeley grad) are not dumb azzs, it would've been a dumb decision to pick cal during the mark fox enabled by jim knowlton era of cal basketball...his other finalists included stanford & princeton
https://instagr.am/p/C52ICacxN0o now with coach madsen's contagious enthusiasm in rebuilding the bears roster with high character true student athletes it makes a lotta sense to start at point guard in the acc (who wants to play conference games against pacific & portland in the wcc?) against duke & north carolina while earning a degree worth millions from the #1 ranked public university in the world
a potentially significant factor in this caldecott tunnel recruitment is that mahaney comes from an affluent lafayette family (graduated from campolindo high school) that understands the generational wealth building opportunity that comes with cal, stanford & ivy league degrees and therefore nil dollars might not be as important...this is also the case with andrej stojakovic (dad deja a 3 time nba all star) who is officially visiting cal this week, his parents are more interested in nba development coupled with a world class education worth millions over a lifetime than a nil payment for rent & car payments...the short family drives on gamedays to haas pavilion are a big pluses for the mahaney & stojakovic families too
6'5" 265 lbs grad transfer (2 years of remaining eligibility) josh griffis from tarleton state (southwest of dallas) is officially visiting cal right now
big country started his career at florida state & had a violent 11 tackles for loss & 7 sacks in 2023...this is a grown azz man with a 485 lbs bench & 590 lbs squat
Gained 10 pounds of lean muscle this off season. Feeling more explosive and stronger. Translated to the field during this spring ⬇️⬇️⬇️ Looking for a new home!! pic.twitter.com/EhCqR3RwkK
2025 6'1" 205 lbs 4.52 SPEED running back dejuan "dj" dugar jr from leander texas (north of austin) is gonna officially trip to cal on june 6th-9th
Pflugerville Weiss 2025 three-star RB DJ Dugar has been one of the most productive RBs in Texas since bursting on to the scene as a freshman as the 6-ft, 200 pounder has rushed for 3,824 yards and 48 TDs in 3 years of 5A varsity play.

is a 2.9 collegiate gpa different than a HS gpa? I certainly don't know the current rules...
It's also a number that means very little-let's not forget we are a month away, give or take, of the end of another school year...new set of grades and all that...

jackson is a high gpa hard working young man with upside but when young men switch high schools that's usually a red flag that their circles of influence might be changing
if carter ends up at stanford & that's the right place for him ima ok with this decision, berkeley isn't for everyone
if he ends up at an academically mediocre big 12 truck stop skool with a bag full of nil dollars for a year, that would be a poor 50 year dumb decision
but in the big scheme of things literally the lowest priority recruiting concern for the cal football program is coach aristotle thompson successfully recruiting elite running backs that can take it to the house on gamedays at memorial stadium while earning degrees from the #1 ranked public university in the world
