My freshman year was 1976 and I redshirted because, being from El Paso, I didn't understand the geography and how far Walnut Creek was from Berkeley and knew I needed a year to get my sea legs before taking this on. The program was cut my sophomore year so I decided to stay and get my degree rather than transfer and play elsewhere.

I am. It's basically carved out of a former walnut orchard. Designed by Robert Muir Graves. I assume it was the Cal home course because the coach back then, Bob Boldt, was also the Boundary Oak pro. His son Rob still works there, I think. Best hole, IMHO, is 13. a par five with a fairway that doglegs right but is canted left, a la Olympic Club, and has a long narrow green with two tiers. For mid-cappers like me, it's a tough but interesting three-shot par 5. It[s one of my regular home courses, because a golf buddy lives maybe a mile from the course, and gets us tee times.

Yes, I misunderstood you. Stonebrae was designed by David McLay Kidd, who designed Bandon Dunes. It's right at the top of the Hayward Hills, so the wind blows like mad a lot of the time. It's a links style course, playing more than 7,000 yards from the tips. The Korn-Ferry tour plays their Bay Area event there. It's a good course for a prospective pro, but tough for normal amateurs. The golf team held their annual fundraiser there for several years, but went back to playing at Orinda Country Club this year, I think because a lot of the boosters felt Stonebrae was too tough for them to play.

hollywood, played a quick 18 a couple of years ago with the head golf pro as a twosome, there are a lotta fun (backboards, sideboards & trap doors) holes that are exposed to the east bay winds/hilly stances that require both strategic course management & ball flight trajectory discipline which you know as a former cal golfer is important for elite player development

but with that being said shocky walks every round of golf & tpc stonebrae is not a tight routing, the pro basically wuz kind enough to be my cart caddie & 3-4 times during the round shocky hopped in with him to get from one green to the next further afar tee box in a timely manner

bottom line, with the proximity to berkeley & the beautiful views it's a perfect locale for the men's & women's golf teams (vs listening to loud as **** jet noise at metropolitan's divot city practice area next door to the oakland airport) but it's not a course shocky would recommend to any golf architecture enthusiasts

so he tells us while we wait for the short par 4 8th green to clear that he thinks ferry point is one of the greatest golf courses in the united states (it isn't, there are at least a dozen courses on long island & the hamptons that are significantly better) & that he's qualified to make that statement because of his extensive travels around the globe playing golf, that nobody knows golf architecture better than him & that includes actual golf architects

so in front of his 2 buddies & his cart caddie i tell the donald that actually i'm one of the 13 guys (and the youngest) to have played the world top 100 courses & stare him down...total silence, one of his buddies who is the chairman of macys starts to laugh & donald play punches my shoulder kinda hard, he's been pwned...whatever

dude is an interesting guy but playing golf with him is not really a celebration of the game but more like riding a roller coaster

Nothing says de-commitment like a "soft commitment." Hope the staff is keeping their options open. On the positive side, seems like a 4* ND QB commit is going to stick with them after visiting Auburn. Would assume that helps our chances.

With continued wins this season, I see no reason why a recruit from Hawaii would want to go to Utah...but I'm just a high GPA guy so what do I know?
