it's gonna take a berkeley grad chancellor (also a haas biz ad major like shocky) like rich lyons to make the right moves to save cal's revenue sports which will include the promotion of berkeley grad andrew "football first" mcgraw to athletic director...it's passionate berkeley grads like the tireless/relentless kevin kennedy along with football whale donor lance cooper (there are 2 other seven digit football nil donors that are not in the jeans biz) working to construct the 2024 & 2025 rosters with ELITE athletes that also got academic ambition...there's no reason to subcontract the athletic department to berkeley grads (which will never get approved by the ncca or the uc system board of regents), it's already happening right NOW

lockdown defenders: after playing candy azz soft d in the 1st quarter giving up a 21 points to a slow as **** mid major, jayda noble & gisella maul brought experienced physicality to the game along with coach charmin changing the d scheme to a zone which resulted in the tigers scoring an anemic 5 points in the 2nd quarter which turned the game around

bench rotation: more minutes for gabriella & jayda, less minutes for true freshman lola (her shooting mechanics need work/development, luv her unselfish hustle)

ionna krimili: the greek arts grad student in berkeley gotta quick release & a beautiful stroke with a squared up shot, it's fundamentally beautiful!!...22 points on 4 of 9 3 pointers...the unforced turnovers (5) on mentally not disciplined sloopy passes not so much

marta suarez: 21 points & 4 turnovers...fans talking **** to marta, **** around & find out!!

3 point shooting: always challenging on an unfamiliar court away from berkeley, 7 of 26 trey shooting & the 21 turnovers kept pacific in the game with lulu's dagger to the heart the final blow to the tigers

free throw shooting: this team will be very difficult to beat in close games with it's ELITE free throw shooting, almost 80% today on 23 of 29 charity tosses

turnover watch: a beyond breaking bad 14 turnovers in the 1st half, finished the game with 21 turnovers

scheduling: good strategy on playing in a different gym but not leaving nor cal & not spending time (berkeley finals are in 2 weeks in berkeley) or money (bus trip, no airplanes/hotels) with the afternoon game in stockton...the big game on friday december 13th hosting stanford at haas pavilion is gonna be EPIC for them california golden bears (9-1)

I said the same thing literally. I'm just glad he finally gets it.

Lots of incompetence in the Cal athletics department but a fish rots from the head, and that is Jim Knowlton, who is far and away the MOST incompetent and at a MUCH larger scale. The damage he has done is immense. He is an career Army bureaucrat, what does he know about hiring a marketing director? Of course the chances are he will hire someone incompetent, He hired Mark Fox after all. No one can claim Fox was a "DEI hire." It was actually the opposite: Knowlton clearly indicated Fox was an "affinity hire." Why? Because Knowlton also knows nothing about basketball (or football for that mater).

Moreover, the issue is 98% product and only 2% marketing of the product. Fix the product first, get your old fans back, then get someone brilliant and innovative to market it to a wider audience and grow the fan base.

Summary; fire Knowlton. Get a competent AD and let them build a competent team. Or outsource the revenue sports to the alums and let us put together a competent management team.

2024 dp tour in south africa: 4th round update

in foreshadowing his round, max homa blocked his tee shot on the par 4 1st hole 30 yards right of the fairway, this happened 4 times today as he gets stuck inside & fails to release the clubhead with the driver...right now homa like morikawa no longer works with swing coach mark blackburn, he's relying instead on feedback from a trusted private adviser...yeah max still birdied the opening hole with a sweeping right to left putt on the very fast dried out greens in the south hemisphere on a 106% temperature afternoon


and after a clutch birdie 2 putt on the par 5 island green 9th hole (max's favorite hole anywhere, birdied it in all 4 rounds this year & the winning pivotal eagle 3 last year in the final round) homanation wuz in legit contention!!

but then another blocked drive into the fairway bunker on the easiest hole on the course the par 5 10th hole & the mental composure wind seemed to leave max sails which probably wouldn't have happened if his regular caddie joey greiner had made the trip from zony to south africa with his childhood friend

so max shot a 40 on the back nine (blocked drive on the brutal par 4 18th led to another bogey) en route to a 75

overall very good week for homa in playing for the 1st time in a couple of months since working on his swing changes after firing blackburn due a mentally overcomplicated swing check list instead of playing innately with feel, fully expecting max to be contending at the spectacularly scenic kapalua plantation on maui next month with collin & ben!!

will be interesting to see if max returns to africa again at the end of 2025 or if he will opt out to play tiger's elite field tournament in the bahamas

san diego state football update:

aztecs rb1 marquez cooper (1,274 yards rushing this season) is outta eligibility & now wr1 louis brown iv (not a cal fit academically) is in the transfer portal, the bears roadie to snapdragon stadium on september 20, 2025 just got a little bit easier

real talk: the stu gordon save baseball fundraising pool of money has been nearly all spent & there is no momentum for future fundraising, the above schedule is financially irresponsible with the exorbitant travel costs but the reality is that the Knowlton Knows Nothing Notes plan is to just continue to borrow tens of millions of dollars from the central campus while lyons just gazes out the window california dreamin' on a winter's day as existential financial challenges barrel towards berkeley


and the baseball deficit will only further deepen as the ncca scholly max is raised from 11 to 34 in 2025, this sport needs to be cut (to also allow for women's team cuts in compliance with title ix) with evans/gordon field repurposed for the greater good of the university such as student housing or the critically needed streamlined basketball only practice facility (mbb is NOT gonna elevate without this amenity in recruiting/player development) which knowlton has pathologically lied about for years with respects to shovels in the ground

where's the disciplined financial integrity in berkeley?? (the university can't print money)#
