shocky visited with hunter on the field at memorial stadium after the stanford victory & congratulated him on a great season...nyziah wuz very respectful & we discussed his favorite go to restaurants in salinas

as a sub 3.0 gpa silver bullet admissions student who blueshirted his 1st year to focus on academics, shocky asked him how this year's schoolwork is going & nyziah broke eye contact looking downwards & tole me "it's going good"...tole a couple of people that nite that nyziah is gone

the reason shocky focuses on gpas so much with respects to cal football is that the higher the gpa the more likely the student is gonna stick with the bears to earn a berkeley degree which is potentially worth millions over a lifetime

misinformed dumb ***** like cnhth will never understand the academic rigors of berkeley but that's ok, the monster thread is a designated safe place & a judgment free zone, got it?

I've said this before: with the portal, we don't know if academic issues force the player to make a decision, or the decision is made for them.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
true enough but at the end of the day the only clear conclusion one can draw with respects to cal football player retention is that the program's silver academic silver bullet admissions got more departures than degrees with a couple of significant notable exceptions of extremely hard working (and highly respected) young men with academic ambition & that gpas are the most accurate metric/prognosticator of student retention & successful work towards earning an ELITE berkeley degree (and it's no different at stanford & the ivy leagues)

yeah shocky graduated from the haas biz school with a 3.92 gpa & is arguably the most knowledge golf course architecture student/traveller in the world having played the last 17 golf magazine world top 100 lists

Quote:

how shocky got walked to his non existent car during high school, the following is a loosely edited transcript of a conversation in the outfield during stinson beach high school varsity baseball practice back in the day:

brusati (shocky's best friend): wait, tell me if i got this right, basically today at lunch in the cafeteria you asked the prettiest girl (a curvy brunette yoga female with a smokeshow PONYTAIL) in the school kathy toosher (name misspelled for privacy reasons, hers not mine) to go steady with you even tho we're freshmen and we don't got drivers licenses yet and she's a junior going out with senior star quarterback mitch delorenzo?

shocky (catching a pop fly): yeah that's pretty much it, bru

brusati (shaking his head in disbelief): did you even run this by your dad?

shocky: which one?

brusati (jogging to snag a foul ball by the gym): shocks, we don't even got cars, why would kathy toosher wanna go steady with you?

shocky: i got a 4.0 gpa, you and me are the only freshmen on varsity plus my mom told me my smile is beautiful since i got my braces off

brusati: but she's already going out with delo who drives a *****in' camaro

shocky (fielding a grounder and throwing a strike to the 2nd baseman): look bru, delo is a dumb azz, he got a 2.5 gpa which means the good schools like cal and stanford won't want him...he's gonna go to marin community college next year, he'll be the 4th string quarterback and quit and then he'll be a male dancer in san francisco getting touched by bi curious businessmen (this actually sorta played out that way)

brusati (obviously upset): shut up, shocky!...if delo hears what you just said your gonna get your azz kicked after practice in the parking lot!!

shocky (slapping his glove): whatever

postscript: bumped into kathy a few years later & we laughed about my crush on her (and ensuing broken heart after getting walked to my non existent car) and she tole me with kinda misty eyes that she regrets her decision...tole her as we hugged "life is not linear"

cal's monster offensive line recruiting update:

back in the day stinson beach lifeguard/muir woods nature guide/sam's cafe dishwasher niki prognos wuz the most powerful wildcats slugger in high school since jerry goff (who had some random azz son named jared or something who married a curvy brunette yoga female as instructed by the monster who he & his dad read faithfully since the beginning of the mill valley movie festival)

https://instagr.am/p/C_8wwMIvOaz

but at the end of the day the 6'7" 285 lbs niki decided to accept a football preferred walk on offer from ucla & before this season earned a fully scholly & then during 2024 emerged as arguably the bruins best offensive lineman & projected for 2025 to be the team's starting left tackle...and now the quick twitch +1 athletic prognos is in the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility

https://instagr.am/p/DAZKP19y2Pb
niki is NOT a dumb azz, he gotta 3.8 gpa & a 4 time member of ucla athletic director's academic honor roll, yeah prognos is smart as ****

anyways niki is shocky's #1 target in the 2025 transfer portal at a position of need!!

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (and only a 30 minute drive from marin county across the richmond bridge to berkeley on fall gamedays for lefty & renata)

Shocky have you gone full MAGA? Check his Tweets. National articles. Do some research on a guy that was born in and has never left Boise, Idaho and was considered racist by many African American players and the community standards of Robert E Lee County Alabama. At a minimum reportedly favoring white kids from suburbia and unable to relate to kids from other environments and different musical tastes. Plus he is known to be a jerk, lacking in empathy. Old school. A bad recruiter.

He may be a great Xs and Os guy (less certain, OC under Peterson who called his own plays) then mostly a HC but you need talent too and players fled that program like players fled Mark Fox. That just doesn't fly in Berkely or in the Portal era. Horrible fit (see Knowlton and
Fox).

I'd now gladly take Rolovich over this guy. At least he's more personable and has strong Hawaii ties. Maybe that was the plan? Like floating a nomination of Matt Gaetz, it make whoever comes next seem palatable?

the following is a reprint from cal's monster class back in the day:

visited this morning the recently opened nicklaus design group ferry point golf course just outside of nyc with panoramic views of the manhattan skyline

https://instagr.am/p/C7dS0GksHlA
arrive from my upper east side central park hotel by cab at the clubhouse around 7:30 am to stretch & warm up at the practice facility

upon arrival the head golf professional tells me that ferry point's developer donald trump heard that as a golf digest & golf magazine rankings panelist that i had an 8:10 tee time and would i like to play with the donald at 8:20 am instead?

so i say sure, no big deal, let's do this

so we make the introductions on the practice green & the 1st thing i notice is that trump has the weirdest color hair ever (kinda yellow orange) & that he has total man boobs along with an oversized obnoxious red cap

i walk & carry my lightweight leather mackzenie bag while the donald drives a golf cart literally to within 6 inches of every green...just as annoyingly, we then proceed to play thru every group on the golf course in front of us (why does he do this, why not just take the 1st tee time?)...it's funny to watch people's reactions as he dictates the playing thru, some golfers are understandably agitated while others want a selfie with him on their phones, he very clearly enjoys all the drama he's created

so he tells us while we wait for the short par 4 8th green to clear that he thinks ferry point is one of the greatest golf courses in the united states (it isn't, there are at least a dozen courses on long island & the hamptons that are significantly better) & that he's qualified to make that statement because of his extensive travels around the globe playing golf, that nobody knows golf architecture better than him & that includes actual golf architects

so in front of his 2 buddies & his cart caddie i tell the donald that actually i'm one of the 13 guys (and the youngest) to have played the world top 100 courses & stare him down...total silence, one of his buddies who is the chairman of macys starts to laugh & donald play punches my shoulder kinda hard, he's been pwned...whatever

dude is an interesting guy but playing golf with him is not really a celebration of the game but more like riding a roller coaster

Stocky, my wife and I did fly the 6,800 miles to attend Big Game (and attend to a family emergency in Texas, and Thanksgiving in San Diego). Because of the "sell out" we started the Game on Tightwad, then found empty seats in the stadium. It was a great game. It was last minute and we were pressed for time so we missed out on seeing a lot of people, including my good friend Will (KoreAm Bear) who I met in Kulapea, the Hawaii Cal Club. It was good talking with you at the Northwestern game in Chicago back in the day and I'd love to be in my hometown just down the road from where I grew up to see the LA Bowl.

Plenty of friends and family with ties to Inglewood and lots of sports and concert memories. My great uncle, Kenny Hahn (a famous LA County Supervisor) and his family lived there growing up so we sometimes had family gatherings there. My ex-wife who also went to Cal went to St Mary's in Inglewood as did another close friend who lived on my floor in the dorms. My ex mother in law and her mother are both interred at Inglewood Cemetery, right next to Ella Fitzgerald. My best friend since kindergarten growing up in West LA, who coincidentally was one of my freshmen roommates at Cal (we did not request to be) currently lives in Inglewood. It would be great to see him. Last year we visited his and many of my childhood friends parents' graves in the Japanese section of the cemetery.

Some of my friends in high school enjoyed betting on the horses so we would often ditch school to smoke weed and go to Hollywood Park. Or buy stolen stereos for our cars at the Inglewood swap meet to replace the ones that had been stolen. My first indoor concert was Earth, Wind and Fire at the Forum in 1977 (age 15, so we could finally drive).

For three years after Cal, 1985, 1986 and 1987 my friends and I had Lakers' season tickets. They were "student discount" tickets my friends had used when at UCLA but the Lakers kept sending renewals and allowing us to buy more tickets. The seats were the highest row of the lower bowl. However, one night we were smoking joints and drinking in the parking lot pregame and some very attractive young ladies joined us. They asked us if we wouldn't mind sitting in their seats directly under the basket. Turns out they bought the seats because they came with Lakers' Club passes but they spent the entire game in the Lakers Club selling coke and turning tricks. They wanted us to sit in their seats to avoid drawing attention. So we watched three seasons of Championship Showtime Lakers sitting directly behind the basket, high fiving Jack Nickerson on the way to our seats, hearing Larry Bird talking ****, amazed at Hakeem's fade away baseline jumper, mid 80's NBA and all its stars. And of course our guys Magic, Kareem, Worthy…. Threepeat champions.

So yes, I'd love to fly back out for the LA Bowl, with their coaching losses we probably kill them, but I'm actually currently sitting in a hospital room in Manila (world class St Luke's in Bonafacio Global City, feels more like a cruise ship than a hospital) recovering from surgery to remove a tumor from my stomach. The flight home to Guam will be enough this month. Going to be making some life changes when I get home too. Including posting here a lot less.

However, my wife and I have been contemplating building out a van on the Mainland and following the Bears while visiting family and friends in California, Arizona, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, Atlanta and Florida since that corresponds with our rainy season. Or now buying an akiya near Kyoto to renovate. Largely depends on how things go with Cal and the US. All our nieces (especially) and nephews in Texas want to leave despite living in relatively blue bubbles of Austin or Houston. We will see how things go.

the following is a reprint from cal's monster class back in the day:

visited this morning the recently opened nicklaus design group ferry point golf course just outside of nyc with panoramic views of the manhattan skyline

https://instagr.am/p/C7dS0GksHlA
arrive from my upper east side central park hotel by cab at the clubhouse around 7:30 am to stretch & warm up at the practice facility

upon arrival the head golf professional tells me that ferry point's developer donald trump heard that as a golf digest & golf magazine rankings panelist that i had an 8:10 tee time and would i like to play with the donald at 8:20 am instead?

so i say sure, no big deal, let's do this

so we make the introductions on the practice green & the 1st thing i notice is that trump has the weirdest color hair ever (kinda yellow orange) & that he has total man boobs along with an oversized obnoxious red cap

i walk & carry my lightweight leather mackzenie bag while the donald drives a golf cart literally to within 6 inches of every green...just as annoyingly, we then proceed to play thru every group on the golf course in front of us (why does he do this, why not just take the 1st tee time?)...it's funny to watch people's reactions as he dictates the playing thru, some golfers are understandably agitated while others want a selfie with him on their phones, he very clearly enjoys all the drama he's created

so he tells us while we wait for the short par 4 8th green to clear that he thinks ferry point is one of the greatest golf courses in the united states (it isn't, there are at least a dozen courses on long island & the hamptons that are significantly better) & that he's qualified to make that statement because of his extensive travels around the globe playing golf, that nobody knows golf architecture better than him & that includes actual golf architects

so in front of his 2 buddies & his cart caddie i tell the donald that actually i'm one of the 13 guys (and the youngest) to have played the world top 100 courses & stare him down...total silence, one of his buddies who is the chairman of macys starts to laugh & donald play punches my shoulder kinda hard, he's been pwned...whatever

dude is an interesting guy but playing golf with him is not really a celebration of the game but more like riding a roller coaster

you're fired, shocky#

as a financial conservative (that believes in balanced fiscal budgets/discipline & the full funding of the police but that will never vote for election deniers) & social liberal (except transgender males tryna compete in women's sports, laws that tolerate/embolden stealing (including paychecks) & dei protections for failing employees) independent that strongly believes that all citizens of the united state of america should pick up litter, shocky can tell u that after spending 5+ hours (golf & lunch) with donald trump that he lacks empathy for others & that he's non intellectually curious in a self agenda driven feral kinda way

calalum, unlike the angry myopic people on the extreme both ends of the political spectrum like urself, shocky believes brian harsin's FOOTBALL related positives far outweigh his negatives & is a HOMERUN hire with his innovative offensive schemes/playcalling!!

can't wait to see wut he dials up for the bears OFFENSE on wednesday october 18th at the nfl tricked out so fi stadium!!

r u gonna be there to celebrate the magic of cal football & maybe STORM THE FIELD with shocky??

Stocky, my wife and I did fly the 6,800 miles to attend Big Game (and attend to a family emergency in Texas, and Thanksgiving in San Diego). Because of the "sell out" we started the Game on ToghtwamIt was a great game.

Fiat Lux!

Prayers for a full recovery Calumnus and a good flight home.

Go Bears,

This is a good college QB. Be curios where he lands - outside the ACC hopefully. He is a Serra grad, so the LA alphabet schools come to mind.

parking lot conversation last nite at 1:47 am while shocky wuz being walked to his car in shreveport:

shocky: excuse miss, why are your crying, is everything all right?

texas tech curvy brunette yoga female (4th from right): not really, im graduating this week from the #159th ranked school in the united states with a kinda worthless degree, as im entering the real world it's finally dawning on me that those that are undereducated in today's fiercely competitive global economy are ******, going to pool and lake parties does not build generational wealth plus ima kinda done living in texas, would really rather go explore the world with someone fun and just keep a condo at turtle creek so i can visit my parents every now and then so they can see the baby

shocky: oh come on, your raiders just dominated the #1 ranked public university in the world plus there's always a bright future at the discount tire in plano, jimmy's adult cabaret in lubbock or the buc-ee's food service statewide training program for a very pretty girl like you!

yoga girl: that's not the future i want!...i want to travel the world and take romantic stagecoach rides thru central park at midnite with someone who makes me laugh and that never takes commercial flights!...how can i meet a cal, stanford or ivy league grad to date and marry?

shocky: wut's ur gpa?

cal's monster offensive line recruiting update:

the staff is targeting 6'6" 305 lbs force of nature offensive tackle ty buchanan from calallen high school in corpus christi who originally started his college career as a usc trojan in south central...buchanan started 8 games this fall for the raiders

ty is NOT a dumb azz, he got a 3.5 gpa & has been an all big 12 academic 1st teamer

fun fact: buchanan is a vegetarian (not all vegetarians are 5'5' 125 lbs curvy brunette yoga females at modern yoga)

Shocky, I know there is a lot more to being a great O-lineman than one's weight, so the portal guys you've highlighted might well be very good players. But a some of these guys are playing in college at around 290 lbs, and I don't think that's going to cut it.

I am ready to get a couple of road graders in here to pound for ground. How about some 6'5 320 lb dudes who can also pass block? Let's aim for an OL than can physically match up with the best in the country?

I know that top O-linemen are super expensive, but is my wish completely beyond Cal's capabilities?

Show me some beef!

Speedy recovery wishes Calalumnus. I had the pleasure to visit Guam when I was living and working in Japan in the 90's. Also went to Saipan, could see Tinian from the beach. Yap is still on the bucket list. My impression of Guam was a little chunk of the American Midwest plunked down in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, I think there was a Sizzler and lots of other American places on the main street. My wife and I made the trip from Hong Kong and attended the NC State game this year. Next season tentatively planning to attend a road ACC game, like to see some new territory and visit a few friends over on that side of the country.
Get well soon!

zony, 100% agreed but if wilcox will replace current failing s&c coach brian johnson after the la bowl any incoming portal transfer linemen will have 8 months to organically build their bodies to 310+ lbs prior to the season opener in corvallis

the # of injuries in 2024 is inexcusable in this day of modern advanced body science/development which on the professional level almost always includes a component of yoga to ensure the body can absorb/withstand violent collisions

if wilcox opts to not make a change/bury his head in the sand with respects to the s&c program, the 2025 season is ****** at which point shocky will need to make a decision whether or not to attend every game again next season like he did in 2024
