2025 us open at oakmont update:

michael kim got his formal invitation today from the usga by virtue of his ranking in the top 60 in the official world golf rankings

james hahn shot 10 under par for 36 holes today at bent tree in dallas in final qualifying & punched his ticket to oakmont, CONGRATS!!

collin morikawa & ben an already got invitations to the us open

max homa gotta compete at the june 3rd final qualifying in order to earn an invitation, will be interesting to see if max opts to play at either kinsale in columbus (very close to the pga tour stop the prior week at muirfield village) or try to fly back to his childhood home of valencia & compete at valencia country club (homa grew up in an unsettled family situation & played the local public courses with his buddies including joe greiner)

oregon state beavers offense scouting report:

the season opener against osu is gonna be the most dangerous offense cal is gonna play during the 4 non conference games, this battle could definitely get away from the bears if guys don't develop their skills/build their bodies this summer in berkeley

qb1: duke transfer maalik murphy selfishly quit on his teammates just like nando & ucla's new qb1 but he's a very TALENTED downfield vertical threat who passed for an elite 2933 yards with 26 touchdowns/12 interceptions against strong acc competition last fall (those are nfl prospect level stats)...massive upgrade for the beavs vs the garbage time qbs that travelled to berkeley last fall, only good news here is that murphy is not a threat to take off running the ball when things break down in the pocket

rb1: anthony hankerson is a relentless human bowling ball at 5'8" 203 lbs with a powerful low center of gravity, hanky rushed for 1082 yards last season...he might get worn down during the season but he's gonna be 100% ready to give & take punches in the season opener

wr1: trent walker caught an unreal 81 balls for 901 yards despite lousy qb play, will the inexperienced TAKERS be ready to live up to the room's nfl pedigree standards??

te1: miami transfer riley williams is a +1 athletic threat replacing the strong but slow former bear jermaine terry (signed as a free agent with the new york giants)

o-line: all american joshua gray is thankfully gone after 17 years in corvallis, the rebuilt patch work o-line could be vulnerable to a more attacking bears defense play calling with blitzes thru the gaps

yeah shocky never liked the scheduling of a away & home game series against a bitter old pac 12 foe that will be playing in an electric sold out reser stadium with the chainshow noise firing up a wildly angry beavers nation

if the bears needed to play a roadie against a mid major, a game in the university of calveston's targeted recruiting territory in texas should've been scheduled (not the northwest)...competent athletic directors have relationships with other ads & the ability to horse trade games in order to construct the best possible schedule, that obviously did not happen

but the 2025 scheduling is water under the bridge, a loss would basically crush any program energy/momentum & the 2025 california golden bears season could be basically over after the game on saturday august 30th...those pointing at last year's 44-7 blowout at memorial stadium are naive as **** & not comprehending the beavers reworked offense, the bears losing 4 nfl drafted players on defense & the fired up corvallis atmosphere (this is kinda like the beavs national championship game)

and that's why any bear that leaves berkeley/goes home for anything more than a long weekend between now & the start of fall camp in early august is basically telling everybody that they really don't give 2 *****

WARNING: football is a violent sport & if ur body isn't built up thru the s&c program this **** is not gonna end well

Agree that this game could be much closer than many believe. It will be a home game for OSU and they will be really fired up. I do think Cal is more talented but QB play on the road is hard to predict. And Cal will be starting a QB that has either little game experience or none.

Cal will need much improved OL play, aggressive defensive tactics and limit mistakes (TOs and penalties). Murphy the OSU QB is a terrific thrower of the ball. But his mobility as you noted is not great nor is his ability to read the defense. And this will be his first game as well.

Camp injuries, new staffers and first game jitters are real variables. And yes a loss would be devastating to the program. And I agree with you that this game could be a really difficult one for this team. A lot of pressure on the Bears.

"This game could be closer than many believe"...? Wut? OSU is favored by 1.5 points, so how much closer could it turn out? I'm not sure who you are referencing that thinks this will be an easy Cal win, unless you mean Sebasta and some other BI posters who were defending the scheduling of this game as our 4th OoC game.

I think Sebasta's point, which was made months ago when we didn't know the composition of this year's teams (and when Cal still had offensive starters who had actually played in games for Cal) was that the ACC requires teams to schedule two Power-4 opponents each year and that OSU was probably as reasonable opponent as we could expect, given short notice for scheduling.

But I don't think the consensus among anyone is that this will be an easy Cal win. Even the Shocky post that we are reacting to is saying that the Bears had better be wary of this game.

Personally, I agree with that and I would view it as a major accomplishment if Cal were to come away on top in this game, given all the new personnel we are integrating and the hostile environment.

If you think Cal may well lose this game, I wouldn't argue with you. But let's not set up a false straw man that somehow many expect a decisive Cal win and then knock it down by saying it will be "closer than many believe".

Follow winter sun
Colors come undone
Gone is what was golden
All I sold was almost perfect
Almost all brand new
Whatever is revealed before you
All of them see your virtues
And even if it's just to hurt you

[Pre-Chorus]
Heaven knows the way you hold me
Let them know I feel this lonely
Even though the way they show me
Letting go I feel it slowly

[Chorus]
Guess you had a cold heart, girl
Guess you might understand
And I don't wanna bear this burden
'Cause it hurts like hell

[Verse 2]
Sold a loaded gun
Celebrating my good fortunes
Hell lives under all that hungers
Almost worth it, almost all I knew
Held up to the sun
I'll always try and reach you
Even if its just to burn you

I do think many of the posters on this board are expecting a decisive Cal win. Cal did beat them very decisively just last year. But first games are really hard to predict.

I don't think it would be a major accomplishment to win but I do believe losing would not be well received and a blow to the already diminished status of the program.

Right or wrong OSU is now a G5 program. And P4 teams are supposed to win. Regardless of the where. The odds makers see OSU as the favorite. So sure they see a close game. But I would be surprised if the majority of BI posters feel the game should be close regardless of the betting line. And I also believe if they do lose the outlook for the season among many of these same folks would change enormously.

I do believe most coaches if given a choice of rosters would choose Cal's. Probably by a wide margin, but Cal as you point out has had significant roster turnover. Does it come together in game 1?

OSU has been a thorn in Cals side many times. Many times when Cal was favored. This is a game Cal needs to win. I do not care by how much. But given the stakes facing Cal in potential realignment they really have to win games like this.

But I do believe that many on this board (especially on the insider board) are expecting a win. Some believe a decisive win. And many of those folks will believe the season is all but over if they lose. I always hated playing this game. It is a no win for Cal. They are supposed to win. Despite what the oddsmaker say, and a loss is or even a very narrow win will be very horribly received.

I think Cal is better on paper. But have enough holes and so much is new it makes predicting a win hard. But they are a P4 team playing a relegated team and much of the Cal fanbase is expecting them to win.

2026 cal's monster class recruiting update:

right now the bears got 6 commitments & marshall cherrington/the staff are targeting a 2026 high school class of approximately 15+ high gpa student athletes that can compete in the acc...actionable scholly offers r gonna be at a premium

the next wave of official visitors will start up again on may 29th with multiple high target prospects tripping to the claremont in berkeley that weekend including the big board's #1 prospect offensive tackle tommy tofi from riordan, nationally recruited defensive lineman nemyah telona from concord de la salle, apex predator edge defender dakota dickson from monte vista in danville, +1 athletic tight end isreal briggs from redwood high school in visalia, elite wideout rj mosley from pittsburg high school & monster offensive lineman roger vanderhoef from grant union high school will be the expected nor cal talent that got an opportunity to be hometown heroes while sharing their collegiate fall gamedays with their parents, family & friends taking just short drives to memorial stadium

out of town official visitors expected to trip to berkeley include priority running back victor santino from bishop montgomery high school, hard hitting safety logan hirou from santa margarita catholic high school & explosive tight end taimane purcell from kamehameha high school in honolulu

the bears will then also host official visitors on the weekends of june 7th & 14th...some of these prospects currently got conditional offers which could become actionable offers depending upon how the may 29th visits turn out with evaluations working both ways been high schoolers & the staff...multiple already committed bears will also take official visits to berkeley during the two june weekends

also visiting may 29th during the 1st of the 3 key recruiting weekends will be elite 11 6'3" 195 lbs quarterback brady palmer (not related to arnold) from cathedral catholic high school in san diego...rolo is running point on extending actionable offers in the qb room & the indian valley hacker has developed a lotta qbs who get PAID in the national football league

good manners: shocky also always offers to take his kicks off when entering people's homes, shoes r for losers

real talk: the cal football program is the right choice for those that wanna build generational wealth via their nfl aspirations competing in the acc & working hard in the classrooms of berkeley in a fiercely competitive global economy that unremorsefully favors cal, stanford & ivy league grads while low academic football factory skools (which r often located in ****hole truck stop towns with lousy level 7 hypothermia weather) dispose of their low gpa gladiators once their marginal utility is all used up leaving them to working nite security at legoland at age 30

Shocky, do you know who are our 10 permitted recruiters in addition to Wilcox? I assume from the above post that Rolovich is one even though he is an offensive consultant. Might make sense to have Rivera be one too, but then 3 of the 11 assistants (not counting Rolovich, Rivera or Gregory) cannot recruit.

Grr, I am looking forward to this one. Going to make the trip up; my first (and most probably last) time at Reeser. After all the turmoil I was shamelessly hoping that this would be a game we could easily win ... me no likey these reports.

My guess is Rolovich is handling the recruiting that might normally fall to Bryan Harsin. Harsin can and will meet with recruits on campus. it is not unusual for the OC to not be a major recruiter. Bob Gregory has never particularly liked recruiting. He is not here to be a recruiter.

Also the recruiting staffers do a lot of work.Numerous recruits mention Benji, Marshall etc in their interviews. I believe the rules restrict just in person off campus visits. But texts and emails are fine and likely phone calls are ok.

calalum, the ncca permits an unlimited # of football assistant coaches/staff but only 10 off campus recruiters plus the head coach...the bears 10 designated recruiters:

*****terrence brown
*****vic so'oto
*****allen brown
*****michael bruno
*****andrew browning
*****famika anae
*****mike saffell (future head coach in waiting, asu's dillingham 2.0)
*****kyle cefalo
*****julian griffin
*****nick rolovich

the 10 designated recruiters can be switched out

but let's be real here, nobody on this staff is evah gonna out recruit leidy

We just self-reported and were sanctioned for a Zoom call with with recruits that involved people on the Cal side who are not permitted recruiters.

Thanks. So other than Harsin, Allen Brown is left out. Maybe Rolovich and Harsin switched after our two transfer QBs came in? I do like the idea of having a designated recruiter so the OC can focus on scouting, game planning and QB development.

calalum, the self reporting zoom call violation & penalties for the football program along with the attempt to significantly reduce the football training table dollars in the last 30 days are yet more attempts by the evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil to derail the revenue programs in favor of her empire of olympic sports

beyond her role in enabling mckeever to create a hostile racist environment for women's swimmers, jenny has also told general knowlton that the nil dollars should be equally shared with all sports & also that the men's & women's basketball recruiting budgets need to be equal in order to be in compliance with title ix (an interpretation not shared by any other university in the united states of america)

right now multiple women's teams are poorly run ****shows:

women's basketball: failed to measurably increase attendance despite this past season's generational squad, has a head coach who is an introvert that cannot raise nil funds & the hiring of an unqualified marketing director in markeisha everrett

women's softball: multiple portal entrants today including the team's leading homerun hitter tianna bell, simon-o'neil has no ability to fundraise nil dollars with her unlikeable arrogant personality

women's gymnastics: head coaches leaving to clemson & roster retention under attack, once again no relationships in place to raise funds for the program

women's volleyball: 15-17 record last season & 7-13 in acc play

women's field hockey: 7-10 record last season & 1-6 in acc play

women's lacrosse: 6-10 record last season & 0-9 in acc play

women's track & field: tied for 12th place in the acc indoor championship last season

women's cross country: 15th place in the acc tournament last season

women's sand volleyball: there's no dedicated basketball practice facility in berkeley but o'neil is tryna get a new sand volleyball facility built for the maybe 100+ fans

women's swimming: lawsuits from the families of former swimmers with suicidal iderations against the corrupt athletic department senior management until the end of time

in an accountable organization, jennifer simon-o'neil would've been fired long ago

yet the chancellor somehow thinks berkeley alums are gonna endow all 31 sports despite the vast majority of them failing by every possible metric

cal is the only school in the nation with a larger men's golf endowment (the stonebrae tpc dedicated practice facility will also benefit the women's golf team) than the football program and that has absolutely nothing to do with the ****tards knowlton & simon-o'neil

The best path seems to be to right size the department. Keep only the NCAA/ACC mandated sports and a few others (golf, aquatics) and eliminate the others or reduce to club status. That is a big step for Lyons. He does not want to do that.
