2026 late emerging/high upside defensive back with length 6'1" 185 lbs joseph vilmael from travis high school in richmond texas (a suburb southwest of houston) with verified 4.33 SPEED got the world's greatest public school in his final 8


joseph not only got ball hawk closing safety speed (with an opportunity for early playing time in berkeley) but he's also not a dumb azz, he got a 3.4 gpa & will be arriving at his new school in january of 2026

message for cal golf coaches michael wilson & peter ireland:

shocky walked 18 holes saturday afternoon at grand canyon university with minnesota twins rookie relief pitcher pierson ohl (4.1 gpa in moorpark, never contacted by the cal baseball staff & graduated from gcu in 3 years, just got married & tole me he loves golf more than baseball, great guy & FUN)

pierson (who hits his driver further than any current bear other than z despite playing golf only a couple of years) tole me that his official listed mlb weight of 180 lbs is outdated, he currently weighs 205 lbs while consuming a minimum of 150+ protein grams every day & that's resulted in his upper mph pitching speed increasing to the mid 90s (wuz mid/high 80s when he arrived at gcu)

asked ohl if there's anybody in the minnesota twins organization that doesn't track their daily protein grams??

pierson kinda smirked & tole me "nobody in the major leagues that's for sure!!"

fun fact: the 1st thing that the twins s&c staff asks every player when they arrive at the stadium on gamedays/practice is "how many protein grams have you gotten in today??"

cal's monster offensive line: this wuz the best overall performance since the inception of this thread (which wuz ironically started because this wuz arguably the worst unit in college fb & needed some recruiting support)...props to the remarkable/inspirational coach famika anae & the starters:

*****nick morrow (left tackle): nick played tight end at coconino high school & got the quick feet necessary to get to the edge to battle with apex predators in open space

*****jordan spasojevic moko (left guard): the lone starter from last week's virginia game, a poly force of nature

*****bastian swinney (center): arguably the unsung MVP of this road victory with snaps on the money allowing the offense to get into a flow, the interlachen high school grad has worked his ******* azz off for years while not complaining (unlike the loser cal tv fans who can't get off their urine stained sofas) & waiting for his turn at glory...and tonite in lexington wuz that special moment in time

*****tyson ruffins (right guard): tyson wuz an league player at nevada & tried to unselfishly serve as the bears center but he's 1000% more effective as a natural guard without all that snapping bull****...without that responsibility our fellow poly is gonna continue to make significant strides in his development in the big game

*****braden miller (right tackle): the rocky mountain high school grad is arguably the smartest bear of them all (along with fellow coloradan aidan keanaaina) & did a commendable job (gotta clean up the false starts) tonite in guarding/protecting jaron's blind side

the KEY to them california golden bears getting to 7-4 on the season & facilitating shocky's b-day week STORMING THE FIELD in palo alto will be largely determined by whether or not the newly revamped o-line can violently knock the **** outta a not deep cardinals front 7

the EPIC louisville victory wuz in large part due to bastian swinney delivering dimes all nite to generational talented lefty qb1 jaron keawe sagapolutele in rhythm, the bears offense does not function well when jks is already operating off platform a split second after an errant snap

my respect for the tireless worker/no complainer (shocky's kids learned at an early age that like t-grizzly that their dad got zero toleration for whining that don't include constructive real world solutions) 4.0 gpa at interlachen high school bastian is off the ******* charts, luv this guy!!

as the monster pointed out the primary reason wilcox teams have not competed well in past novembers is because of a failing s&c program with the prior coach, coach novak & his hardworking staff of passionate professionals are critical to the program moving forward into the 2026 off season (a program rebuild losing this staff would have devastating consequences)

and of course fellow poly coach famika anae gotta ******* potty mouth like shocky but that's because he ******* cares, he ******* cares!!

Moto has not started the entire season, right? I'm asking because I first noticed him in the NC game, I think. We came out and played very tough and on offense he stood out. I remember thinking, "Where's this guy been". And not just blocking but a lot of enthusiasm on the sidelines. Did somehow I just miss him in the early part of the year? It's been hard to keep track of the OL even though I watch them the most.

This turnout is pathetic and shameful. How much are staff in the marketing departing making annually? A couple quick fixes off the top of my head in addition to your pleas for free student tix. Reach out to local basketball programs, high school, junior college, aau, whatever, and offer discounted tickets. There must be hundreds or thousands of players and coaches in the Bay Area and nearby Central Valley that would love to be 'invited' to watch a major college game. In a related effort, is Madsen offering any summer camps for younger players? Also I'd suggest Cal try google ads or similar to try to promote itself to the basketball audience in Asia. The Warriors are well known, and Cal & Stanford are known throughout Asia for their academics. Some sort of targeted marketing at Asian basketball fans visiting the Bay Area might help.

Just wondering… if a fan shows up to a game and says "I don't have a ticket, but I would like to be let so that I can cheer on our team," would they be allowed in?

Shouldn't they be, given that there are 8000 empty seats inside? What's the downside to letting them in to watch for free (at least until demand rises to a decent level)?

glenn & force one, u outline a lotta interesting questions & solutions, successful sports marketing (the 1950s model of just winning doesn't work in 2025, there are too many alternative entertainment options out there) requires a multi pronged approach by creative professionals and honestly none of those components are even remotely in play right now with the cal men's basketball program

private equity: gotta give both michigan & usc major props for not getting on board with the big 10's fast moving private equity deal, the odds of them along with ohio state & potentially other schools becoming independents like notre dame is gaining momentum every day

as someone who has sat in boardrooms listening to private equity pitches, it's a real simple concept kinda like cash loansharking at the pool hall: "we'll give you money today because you got a ****ton of debt right now and then we'll own ur ******* azz (profits & future decision making) for a really really long ******* time"

got it??

what's revealing in all of this is that there are apparently big 10 schools with massive amounts of fast coming due athletic department debt that are basically willing to sign a death warrant document (realizing they will be retired/dead when the **** hits the fan) for an immediate infusion of cash to pay off their current crushing financial obligations

it would be kinda funny if the big 10 implodes & the acc (which offers shocky the best combination of playing the cathedrals of golf coupled with cal football gameday roadtrips) becomes the 2nd most powerful conference after the sec

" PitchBook's annual university rankings compare schools by tallying up the number of alumni entrepreneurs who have raised venture capital in the last decade." Cal is ranked #1. Not sure if this has been referenced elsewhere on BI, probably so. Why doesn't the Athletic Marketing Dept. bring in some bright young sparks from Haas or wherever and let them intern and generate some marketing ideas? It can only help.

fun fact: ucla's largest athletic donor casey wasserman (running the hc search committee) is getting his azz handed to him in his divorce legal proceedings with berkeley grad/talented musician laura ziffren...it's the most wonderful time of the year in westworld (checks don't bounce) as the bruins are heading towards 9 losses this season & are staring down a potential 10 loss rebuild in 2026!!

signing day for cal's high gpa 2026 class is december 3rd, a change right now in the head coach (other than tosh who would largely keep the existing staff and most importantly the s&c professionals along with coaches anae & brown and the recruiting team) would blow up that infusion of critically needed 2026 talent heading to berkeley & also jeopardize the early january 10 day transfer portal window which will be critical in restocking key positions particularly defensive line & running back if the bears can't close on phenom messiah mickens

the question really isn't as much if wilcox is returning, it's if generational talent/legit 2026 heisman candidate jaron keawe sagapoltele is gonna return or not which will 100% not happen if his most trusted coaches are no longer on the staff

if however the incomprehensible decision is make to fire wilcox & blow up the program (running off jaron thereby putting 10+ losses in play for 2026 as will be the case for ucla) shocky will be done with cal football & this thread, greg richardson sent me a message this week advising that if any comments that are "denigrating" to him or this site's biz model will result in my permanent ban for a 3rd and final time after his cancellations of cal's monster class & cal's monster class deux which aspired to bring a men's basketball national championship to berkeley...shocky has thus made the decision to follow his readership's lead and no longer open any other threads at this site other than the monster (adios to all the uninformed predictably negative urine stained sofa tv "fan" ****tards, problem solved)

So it sounds to me that Cal needs to hire Tosh. He is interviewing at Oregon State. Let that sink in for a moment. He clearly wants to be a HC. How about here. How about now.

So is it possible that a few of the staffers he would not keep or would look to leave if he is hired are the keys to keeping JKS? It is possible that some like Rolo or Harsin could leave anyway. Harsin has been mentioned at Colorado State. Rolo could end up as an OC somewhere. Is it assured that there will be no staff movements if Wilcox stays?

Wilcox does not deserve to return. Cal has supported his fly fishing retirement fund to great fortune for Justin while Cal is routinely never taken seriously by the greater college football community. It is assumed by many that they are not going to be invited to join the next major realignment.

Keeping failed coaches due to fear is not how you win. I get JKS is a special talent. I understand that recruiting season is close. Change is hard. But sometimes necessary. If Tosh can keep the band together mostly and bring some much needed recruiting juice then Cal absolutely needs to pull the trigger.

Deal with the Tosh is a traitor fallout later. But for once lets try to actually win some games. Wilcox has failed. Rivera if he allows it to continue is at risk of losing the fanbase. If Wilcox returns JKS better damn win the Heisman and Cal needs to win a minimum of 10 games. Any takers on that?

I expect Cal to announce Tosh as the next HC by Monday Dec 1 at the latest. Or stop pretending you actually care about winning games. If Wilcox remains it is clear that winning is not a priority.

REMOVE WILCOX. HIRE TOSH. KEEP JKS. it can be done but living in fear is how Cal got stuck extending Wilcox and guaranteeing his contract fully. Come on Ron make it happen.

2025 rsm classic at sea island: 1st round update

byeong hun an (68, tied for 44th): starting on the back nine ben drove his crooked azz opening tee ball on the drivable 327 yard par 4 10th hole into a penalty stroke situation but kept his ****/composure together & rattled off a consecutive birdie hat trick on his 2nd nine to get to the clubhouse at 4 under par on the easier plantation course despite hitting only 7 of 14 fairways, this is wut bears do!!

james hahn (66, tied for 44th): getting a rare pga start, the haas biz ad grad/ex nordstrom's women's shoe salesman grad rolled in 5 birdies (including 3 2s on the 4 par 3s) on the tougher seaside course & gotta opportunity to move up the leaderboard manana on the more scoreable plantation course!!

with the LOUDEST crowd (4624 in attendance comprised of 4500+ screaming young students on a hopefully transformative field trip to berkeley & a couple dozen sr citizens with noise cancelling earplugs) of the season at haas for either a men's or women's game, the hibernating (other than sakima walker with a career high 25 points & lulu "let it fly" twidale knocking down 4 of 8 3 pointers en route to 18 points) & poorly coached (the bears staff failed to offensively adapt when the gaels late in the 1st half started bringing an extra defender or two on post entry passes which almost cost them a victory against a significantly undersized mid major program) bears improved this season's record to 5-1!!

fun fact: my former caddieing (during my stinson beach high school & college berkeley days in my quest to get PAID) home course san francisco golf club is #38, the cal club is #45 while the olympic lake (#96 in the 2021 rankings) drops out of the world top 100, the just completed gil hanse renovation will hopefully add some fun & more strategic options to the design along with eliminating the weird walk to the 8th tee box from the 7th green...also looking forward to playing coore & crenshaw's brambles when it formally opens in 2024, yeah it's just up the hill from my future t-rex yoga studio in yountville
