That guy knows more about football than most people in football. With the right leadership (leash) you give him a chance and let coaches and RR tell him when and if it's time to step away.

He is a name, but would need to take on a support role. Either as a special assistant or something. I know he desperately wants back in to the game, but I am very dubious he would be ok with being part of the team and not being very heavily involved with gameplanning etc.

My personal view is if he wants to be an analyst and help break down film, help with scouting and such he could be a value. And his presence could possibly help with some attendance from former Raiders fans. I am having trouble believing he would be ok being a help and not in charge.

Not moral outrage, but I really think making Cal the refuge of unemployed middle aged white guys fired at their last job (at least in part) for racism against African Americans is going against a potentially strong brand for recruiting smart, elite African American student athletes from all over the country to Berkeley, California. We have only sometimes taken advantage of Berkeley's history and reputation for social justice in basketball, but almost never in football.

It is just dumb. The only other schools in the old Pac-12 who have never had a black head football coach are WSU and Utah. Berkeley is not Pullman or SLC, so why ruin, or least not take advantage of what could be a really good thing? Just seems dumb to me. I'm down with Tosh, but part of that HAS to be good recruiting and while I have been advocating recruiting Hawaii for decades, it can't be our only recruiting focus. I think he would be a huge boost to recruiting. Players like the idea of playing for a Super Bowl winning NFL coach. I am less enthusiastic about the offense he would run. But if you can get enough dawgs in here it may not matter.

6956, shocky got zero interest in the nfl/nba/mlb but my berkeley grad raiders fan classmates luv jon gruden (many of them lobbied me that he would've been a solid replacement for wilcox but i don't think a head coach at the #1 ranked public university in the world can be a premium vip cardholder at the Reverse Cowgirl Gentleman's Club in antioch) & that they loved his dynasty super bowl championship offense, high octane baby!!
