Welcome! Can't wait to get down to the Plains later this week. If I want to make a similar post (Cal POV on an Auburn board) what's the place to go?

As far as I can tell nobody's talking about Auburn yet. But I had a first reading of the summary of your win. Never seen a game that shortened to, I believe, 10 minutes a quarter in the second half because the first half was such a blowout. Does that occur only in the South? And what classification was the team you played? Hopefully not a division II team.

BTW, several years I viewoed a long argument between famous Alabama and Auburn athletes about what team was better. I also remember the guy who did the poisoing spoke on the phone to the famous southern sports reporter who is Jewish, as am I. How long will it take for the new trees to be fully grown? Thanks.

Safe to say that most people aren't feeling too positive after a lackluster performance against UC Davis, in which more than a few guys seemed to be injured.

Personally? I'm not sure how to feel about it. Under Justin Wilcox, Cal has almost always played down to the FCS opponent in the first half before eventually pulling out a win by more than one score. It's happened in bad seasons for us and also good/average seasons. It's not really a leading indicator of anything. So my personal feeling is "uncertain."
Conversely the sample size of a 'good' season under Wilcox is so small that repeating his mediocre performance vs FCS schools seems to indicate another .500 or worse year

I don't see Cal's offense going up and down the field to score TD 3+ times so I am not sure what the path is for a win unless Auburn gifts us 14 points.

Boy oh boy it is good most of you have never played football. You would all have wilted in 2 seconds on the field. Better go read your law books. With the injuries we likely have an uphill battle. Cal has enough talent when mostly healthy. I would play the odds and not play any of the injured guys and find a pathway to win 8 games. Yes we played like dogsh*t in the first half. Second half much better, This year is on the coaches more than ever. Go Bears!

And therein lies the problem. This year really is on the coaches and the game Saturday reinforced what we already know about Wilcox and Sirmon and unfortunately provided more data to question Bloesch. I'm not sure the talent upgrade was ever going to matter with this coaching staff.

I'm expecting a lopsided loss, but hoping the game will at least be competitive enough to provide a few hours of entertainment.

Our opportunity to beat Auburn was last year at home and was squandered. Now we have a myriad of injuries, downgraded the offensive staff, and are playing on the road.

Unfortunately, Cal's recruiting is never deep enough on the offfensive line, where I think most injuries occur proportionate the players playing that position, than at other positions.

On a somewhat related subject, did our stud offensive lineman who transferred to Oklahoma a few seasons ago make it into the NFL? I forget his name.

Yes, but we have the same crappy head coach.
And the same annual Negabears!
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

The Bears ran into a highly motivated buzz saw with Davis. Well coached and they had just all of last year's offense back. Adjustments will be made no doubt but we will struggle. Hope it's a fun experience for those that travel - I've always enjoyed playing teams that have not become hated fans!! Auburn tailgates are legendary.

Hopefully our list of significant disadvantages doesn't add another SEC officiating crew to the mix.

Unfortunately most boards are behind a pay wall. You might be able to get a free month trial on either Rivals or 247

I believe the 10 minute quarters in the second half is part of a new NCAA rule. Both coaches need to agree with shortening the game, of course. I'm guessing it's for player safety. We played an FCS team, same classification as UC Davis.

Not sure about how long the trees have until they're fully grown, but they're fairly sizable now. Moved from a tree farm to Toomer's Corner.

Hard to know just how real Auburn is, the creampuff they scheduled only really showed how Auburn D-Line dealt with the obese slow Alabama A&M O-line.

Those gargantuan guys were winded and starving by half time. I think their O-line averaged 330 pounds lolol

A&M D-Line was small. I get the impression that the O-line doesn't leave enough food for the D-Line. some of their guys were 200-220 pound 6 ft guys. Undersized.

Not saying Cal will push around Auburn with our O-line or D-Line, but the thing that Auburn has going for it appears to be our DC and OC play calling.

I don't know what was happening. I'm hoping it was our coaches not wanting to open up the playbook and give Auburn a sneak peak. Wishful thinking, I know. Do our coaches have that level of mind games approach? I doubt it.

Beat case scenario is a blowout. Either we blowout Auburn and restore confidence in our coaches, or we got the doors blown off by Auburn so bad that our new Chancellor fires our entire coaching staff on the spot.

Never heard of the team you played last Saturday. What is their name and what college division do they in?

Many rears ago UC Davis beat Stanford.

Alabama A&M. They are a HBCU in the SWAC conference. An FCS team. The university is located in Huntsville Al. Near the border with Tennessee.

How would you know you've never heard of them if you didn't know their name.

Plus you are able to find random video links to Cal football previews and create new posts in prolific fashion but unable to find out who Auburn played or anything about them.

Kick 6 -- Auburn vs. Alabama. For some reason, this is listed as the SECOND best college football play of all time. Seriously? Nobody even touched the Auburn returner. Second Place as the best college football p[au in history? Seriously?

mettaur (something like that)

i would have to think he'd have gotten a look. he became an immediate starter for the sooners and something of a team leader, getting quoted in articles and such.

do they have good free boards?

honestly going around various cfb forums, its shocking to me how many are still using board layouts from the early 2000s. can't view anythign but individual replies, half the replies are behind a paywall (but you can't tell until you click), etc.

We need a portal system for coaches. The coaches don't know what to do with what they have.
I hear Nick Saban is between coaching jobs.

We should have beat Auburn last year. We need to make up for that.

Hope to read insights from Cal fans attending the game and any comments of anyone visiting a Waffle House with a jukebox to indicate whether that concept would work in the Bay Area if it was a bit more fancy. I miss visiting the one northwest Georgia I visited.

Well, kind of a long story. It's adequately explained on our Athletic website. But, Tigers is our mascot. War Eagle is our battle cry. Similar to how USC fans say Fight On. Alabama fans say Roll Tide. Arkansas fans say Wooo Pig Sooie.
It's a long story, but basically an Auburn professor in the 1890's was a Civil War veteran. He had a pet eagle that he found as a baby on a battlefield in Virginia. He kept it all those years and everyone knew it was his pet from the war.
He took it to an Auburn/Georgia game and we won the game. There is more details to the story.

Waffle Houses require lots open space, but seem to rarely have it, for the few I have been to. The space would seem to be needed, not so much for Jukebox dancing, but for the fights I have seen going viral on the Interwebs. LOL

Auburn posters, thanks for joining. I'll be traveling from CA with a few buddies this weekend. Looking forward to the gameday experience. After some basic googling, it looks like a proper pre-game would include a Toomer's lemonade and wandering the tailgate area. (The Cal tailgate scene is effectively nonexistent, so I always appreciate seeing other venues' tailgates.) Any other insider pro-tips for game dayin particular, a bar recommendation within walking distance?

Thanks for the story. Hadn't heard that. Really looking forward to heading out to Auburn on Thursday. Have been to a number of SEC games and always have a great time (you all really know how to put on a party) but never Auburn. Have heard great things. Enjoyed also having a number of your fans out here last year.

By the way, if you read posts on this board relating to your game that seem completely off the beam and make you think we're out of our minds, be advised we have a few odd folks who are engaged in some kind of weird performance-art thing on Bear Insider where they repeatedly post bizarre tangents to get a rise out of people and because they think they are funny. They aren't. There is at least one of them already active in this thread. You don't exactly have to be Inspector Poirot to figure out who they are Please don't walk away with the impression from these posts we are all quite that nuts. It takes all types.

Looking forward to a good game.
