Well, kind of a long story. It's adequately explained on our Athletic website. But, Tigers is our mascot. War Eagle is our battle cry. Similar to how USC fans say Fight On. Alabama fans say Roll Tide. Arkansas fans say Wooo Pig Sooie.
It's a long story, but basically an Auburn professor in the 1890's was a Civil War veteran. He had a pet eagle that he found as a baby on a battlefield in Virginia. He kept it all those years and everyone knew it was his pet from the war.
He took it to an Auburn/Georgia game and we won the game. There is more details to the story.
Thanks for the story. Hadn't heard that. Really looking forward to heading out to Auburn on Thursday. Have been to a number of SEC games and always have a great time (you all really know how to put on a party) but never Auburn. Have heard great things. Enjoyed also having a number of your fans out here last year.

By the way, if you read posts on this board relating to your game that seem completely off the beam and make you think we're out of our minds, be advised we have a few odd folks who are engaged in some kind of weird performance-art thing on Bear Insider where they repeatedly post bizarre tangents to get a rise out of people and because they think they are funny. They aren't. There is at least one of them already active in this thread. You don't exactly have to be Inspector Poirot to figure out who they are Please don't walk away with the impression from these posts we are all quite that nuts. It takes all types.

Looking forward to a good game.

I have seen nothing, here, that could compare with the bizarre and random one might witness on Telegraph in the 1970s.

Bezerkeley.

Toomers will be packed. If you like Lemonade, go for it. Downtown Auburn is right next to campus. 15 minute walk to the stadium. Plenty of bars and restaurants downtown. Sky Bar is the biggest/most famous. If you want a fancy, more adult vibe, go to Avondale. Moe's BBQ is a restaurant/bar. Great scene. There is a brand new hotel that just opened called The Graduate. The rooftop bar has a view of the stadium. I plan on checking it out this weekend. Many
more bar options. Just Google them to see what your vibe would be. I was a student in the early 2000's and Auburn's bar scene has improved DRAMATICALLY since then. There's 2 or 3 other rooftop bars now with views of Downtown and the campus.

Oh, I know. It is well wishing on my part. A historic whooping. A triple digit loss may be enough to get at least our AD fired.

Hardly compares at all to The Play, the greatest football play in history, college or pro.

The Play Cal vs. Stanford Google Search.

I wouldn't say it hardly compares to The Play, but just my biased opinion. The circumstances around that game were huge. It was #1 vs #4 in arguably the greatest rivalry in College Football. The winner went to the SEC Championship Game and ultimately the BCS National Championship. That situation concluding in walk off fashion by a returned missed field goal for 109 yards is legendary.

While out transfer classes have been rated highly, our high school recruiting has been less so. Which is how the top programs build teams and fill in with transfers Last year our high school class ranked 55 according to 247. Its a long season, we have many new players, let's see how it plays out once we hit the ACC. Who expected FSU to be 0-2!

Boy oh boy it is good most of you have never played football. You would all have wilted in 2 seconds on the field. Better go read your law books. With the injuries we likely have an uphill battle. Cal has enough talent when mostly healthy. I would play the odds and not play any of the injured guys and find a pathway to win 8 games. Yes we played like dogsh*t in the first half. Second half much better, This year is on the coaches more than ever. Go Bears!

I love seeing them 0-2 and hope Cal makes them 0-4

Generally agree but assessing high school talent is much, much less scientific than proven portal transfers. If we have a good scout, we can find all sorts of great talent.

Take a look at Cade Uluave's offer list out of high school and imagine what it would look like if he were to enter the portal.

I feel like Cal is going to get manhandled on both lines of scrimmage and will probably lose by three touchdowns. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Yeah, the Kick Six was the most impactful unusual game ending play in recent memory when you include the consequences of the outcome. Other similarly unusual game winning plays were in games that were not as impactful. Closest I can think of in terms of impact are the trick plays used by Boise State in their Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma, which were big but didn't have title implications.

The Boise State game was wild. Everyone remembers where they were when that happened.

I didn't attend the Kick Six but attended the Prayer in Jordan-Hare two weeks prior, which was wild as well. Randomly attended the Georgia Tech/FSU game in 2015 when Tech blocked a FG and returned it for a TD as time expired. I think Tech had two wins at that point of the season in late October and FSU was 7-0 and top 10. That was cool to see live.

First, I'll say how much I wish this game was played in Berkeley again this season. We had a damn good time drinking our way around Northern Cal and wish we could do it again this season.

What's the consensus from the Cal perspective on the game this coming Saturday? Us Auburn fans are optimistic after what our team did on Saturday, despite it being a mid-tier SWAC team. Thorne seems much improved, throwing for 300+, four passing TDs and running for another. Receivers are big, physical, and fast. We have three Auburn caliber running backs and what seems to be an improved OL who finished middle of the conference last season.

Defensive line seems solid, linebackers should be elite, and secondary is still TBD. Teams with a strong passing attack could be an issue for us.

End of the day, I expect Auburn by 10-14. How's everyone feeling?

We are looking forward to some southern hospitality and observing Auburn's traditions. Wife and I love going to these away games.

Based on the game being at your house, and the way Cal played in game 1, you are dead on with a 10 to 14 spread for the game. Cal needs a much better offensive performance to keep the game closer.

Our fans will certainly take care of you on game day. I'm sure you've scouted the area a good bit, but Byron's BBQ is a great easy spot for good southern bbq. If you're in the mood for a good dining experience, you can never go wrong with Acre, although you might have needed to book a rez a couple weeks ago. Always worth trying.

We don't have the esthetics of the Bay Area, but hopefully the weather cooperates and it's not too muggy.

Thanks for the info. Coming from Atlanta in the morning. Visiting Toomer's to stare at the trees and explain the history to the Mrs. Then touring the tailgates, like we usually do. If the scene is like at Ole Miss, we will not go away hungry. Assume we can bring in empty water bottles into the stadiums for refills, in case it is overly humid?

Yep, if it's a non-disposal bottle, needs to be empty. If it's plastic single use bottle, needs to be factory sealed. Standard clear bag policy.

Water seems essential from my friends who have visited at this time of year. When USC played there several years ago one of (few) USC friends nearly passed out from dehydration and lack of liquids. Just a reminder that alcohol (which Bears will definitely need!) dehydrates.
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

a couple of years ago the head golf professional at my favorite public golf courses in scottsdale talking stick (coore & crenshaw designed 36 holes, a 10 minute drive from modern yoga) calls me up & tells me that he would appreciate me doing him a solid & come out that friday to play a game with a sports guy guest...scott tells me that we will play as a twosome & that he will block out the tee times before & after our tee time to ensure nobody bothers us & that since shocky is a walker the guest will have his privacy riding solo in a golf cart (the guest apparently can't walk 18 holes)

tell scott sure no big deal

introductions are made on the putting green, it's bo jackson

so we play the back tees that day (which are 6800+ yards with firm/fast fairways), jackson can pound his drives but hits a couple drives 50 yards off line into the caca...bo tells me that since he got hip replacement surgery that a couple of times a round he can't clear his left side which results in blocked lost ball drives to the right which kinda drives him crazy...shocky shoots a 79 & beats bo by 5 strokes, jackson loses our 5 bucks bet but its never paid up after the round when we do our bro hug on the 18th green

we never talk about sports (which is a relief to bo but honestly its because i got zero interest in pro sports teams/athletes outside of our golden bear pga golfers)

interestingly when i tell him that i wuz raised by a tiger mom who tole me i could do anything in life, he shares with me that he wuz primarily raised by his grandmother who beat the **** out of him & that's the origin of his mental toughness/competitiveness

bo tells me the following story about his daughter morgan, this is a loose recollection of his words:

so his only daughter morgan is in high school & she's already one of the fastest girls in illinois (his primary home is in lemont a suburb of chicago which is home to the cog hill golf complex, jackson mostly plays public courses) & she already got a scholly offer to auburn which he's very proud of

anyways bo is not a dumb azz & he's heard thru the local chatter (his sons) that there are high school boys who wanna devirginize his pretty daughter so when morgan tells him that she's gonna go on her 1st date both morgan & his longtime wife linda are very anxious about how dad is gonna treat the young man when he shows up at the house

"daddy, please be nice to marcus"-morgan

"bo, do not ruin our daughter's 1st date, ok?"-linda

so marcus rings the doorbell & is welcomed into the house

bo says excuse me but can i have a moment alone with marcus in my study/hunting trophy room

morgan & linda share a nervous eye exchange & marcus follows a quiet bo thru the house to his man cave

they eventually arrive to the room & still without a word bo turns his back on marcus & walks over to his work table & pulls out a ginormous silver bullet & asks marcus how his name is spelled

a sweating marcus spells out his first & last name while bo writes something on the bullet with a special sharpie

jackson finally walks over to marcus (who is a star running back at the local high school) & tells him to open his hand

marcus complies with this request & bo puts the silver bullet which has the young man's full name inscribed on it into his palm & tells him:

"marcus, if you disrespect my daughter in any way i will hunt you down to the end of earth & put this bullet in your head, do you fully understand me?"

"yes sir, mr jackson!"

marcus brings his daughter morgan home on her 1st date at 9:45 pm

Might be that rankings of transfer class are primarily based on the number of transfers coming in and not on the quality of them. Cal has a lot of the former but I'm not sure about the latter.
