As well, any noise or online hype for GD in Berkeley and enthusiasm generated by our program's revival, the ACC realignment, the emergence of Miami as the top contender in the conference, and the side stories of a kid from Miami who dreamt of playing for the Canes now leading Cal against them, and their QB from Wazzou now being the top favorite for the Heisman, all of these items are going to factor in their choice, star power and side stories galore.
This is 100% right. There are way too many great stories for this game not to be GameDay IF (and it's a huge if) Cal can take another flight across the country and beat another football blue blood. Make no mistake. FSU is more talented than Auburn up and down the roster. They are a wounded giant animal. Eventually they will pull it together but hopefully not this week. IF we win and IF Miami wins, GameDay is coming to Berkeley. Book it.
This right here. They are the most talented team we'll have faced so far and are desparate for a win. I think the loss to Memphis made this game more challenging for us.

I don't know. Should the playoff snub have fired them up for Georgia. Shouldn't the UGA massacre and lawsuit drama have fired them up for GT. Shouldn't have the GT embarrassment turned them into monsters against Memphis. The Memphis loss was the one they really needed?

This is Cal so of course we could find a way to lay an egg. But if we rattle DJU early, our back 7 could turn his day into nightmare. Let's get another dude benched this weekend!

I can imagine the atmosphere on the memorial glade with college gameday. Would be a dream come true.

My recollection is that Cal has not performed particularly well against good Florida based teams in Florida over the years (yes, I know that past performance is not necessarily a predictor of future games), losing to Florida in 1974, and getting blown out by Florida and Miami in 1980 and 1989, respectively.

Although, Cal did manage to win a close one against a mediocre Miami team sixty years ago under Ray Willsey in 1964.

As a jaded Old Blue I expect that Cal will lose on Saturday to an FSU team that has so far not played to its potential, and all the Game Day discussion will become inoperative (as Ron Ziegler might put it).

I'd love to be surprised on Saturday, but pleasant Cal surprises have been in relatively short supply over the last sixty years.

I'm not sure that games from the 80s or earlier are relevant to this year's team.

The players literally quit on that team against Georiga. Quit as in declared for the draft or entered the transfer portal and did not to play in the game. It was an embarassmed for the NCAA and college football.

Either Florida State will fold or comem out angry. I don't know which. But it's a trap game because a loss will be perceivead as Cal laid an egg when it could just be Florida State came out fired up and finally played up to its potential whereas a win will be perceived as Florida State just isn't very good this year. Hate these types of games.

I'm fairly certain that ACC media and ESPN will perceive a Cal win at FSU as the set up of a very good Cal team to step up to the challenge of a highly ranked Miami team. Keep winning, Canes!

Maybe just focus on this year. Auburn was a "pleasant surprise." For those of us at the game, it felt like waaaay beyond that. And you want "signs" of Cal football success in Florida? Maybe one of their biggest wins ever was at the Citrus Bowl....
I don't doubt the statements above that Florida St. is more talented than Auburn etc. But I do know that the crowd at Auburn tried to bring the team back at every turn. In Tallahassee, I think the crowd is going to boo if the Seminoles lose the coin toss, and it will start from there. FSU's "tradition" isn't lining up Saturday, but the week's of losing and self doubt will be out there. If anything, the FSU history of success is only adding to the pressure for them.

There certainly isn't a "lock" site....there isn't a "two undefeated teams" match up that exists....

I feel like the A&M game is the likelier spot now, but they did already go there in week 1 so that might rule them out.

They did do Michigan for the Texas game. I suppose that's a B10 v SEC, but they did do 2 B10 games last year,PSU@OSU and OSU@UofM.

So the quick rundown aside from us is:

Auburn @ Georgia: Gameday already going to Alabama next Saturday for Georgia-Bama, plus Auburn stinks
Iowa @ Ohio State: As others mentioned it's B1G and Iowa gets smoked in Columbus anyway
Tennessee @ Arkansas: This could happen but highly doubt it (Arky has A&M this week)
Ole Miss @ South Carolina: Gameday already went to Columbia few weeks back
Michigan @ Washington: Really depends on how Washington does at Rutgers this Saturday

It's dumb to think about at this point but even under the most ideal scenario this weekend (Georgia losing to Bama, Arkansas losing to A&M, Washington losing to Rutgers), I am not seeing it.

The question is would we even want it. I mean, the answer is yes. But the enthusiasm is just going to be so different then if we had won.

Regardless of GameDay I would love for us to be in the primetime ABC slot only because Wilcox and his coaching goofs have gone under the radar for most of his tenure, FSU was a pretty unique circumstance but to play against a top-5 team with the leading Heisman contender at home in primetime, how will he react?

You want prime time audiences to watch our offense implode? So we can be clowned as the NY Jets of cfb?

Right, Texas, New SEC member...and last year they were still in the Big 10 mix of games...2024 started the "New world."
If Arkansas beats A-M and moves to 4-1, them hosting Tennessee becomes a player.

Michigan @ Washington seems like the safe pick, but I wonder if Navy @ Air Force isn't in the cards. They haven't been out to Colorado Springs since 2009. It'd be perfect -- a short drive from the Knowlton residence!

Army-Navy late in the season is almost always on GD.

Heard that GameDay reached out to Cal about hosting. Nothing is finalized, but Cal has a decent shot to host GameDay. Other options include Arkansas, FSU, and UW.

Interesting. Guess just gotta hope that they don't want to go to UW again and want to go somewhere completely new. That and their game is on nbc

I'd love to know how often GD actually chooses a game they aren't doing

When "College GameDay" chooses a location for a game not on ABC/ESPN

2024:

Week 2 -- Ann Arbor (Texas-Michigan on FOX)

2023:

Week 4 -- South Bend (Ohio State-Notre Dame on NBC)
Week 8 -- Columbus (Penn State-Ohio State on FOX)
Week 9 -- Salt Lake City (Oregon-Utah on FOX)
Week 10 -- Tuscaloosa (LSU-Alabama on CBS)
Week 13 -- Ann Arbor (Ohio State-Michigan on FOX)
Week 14 -- Atlanta (SEC Championship on CBS)

2022:

Week 2 -- Austin (Alabama-Texas on FOX)
Week 4 -- Knoxville (Florida-Tennessee on CBS)
Week 6 -- Lawrence (TCU-Kansas on FS1)
Week 7 -- Knoxville (Alabama-Tennessee on CBS)
Week 8 -- Eugene (UCLA-Oregon on FOX)
Week 10 -- Athens (Tennessee-Georgia on CBS)
Week 13 -- Columbus (Michigan-Ohio State on FOX)

That's a little surprising. Guess GD doesn't really care that much whether they're carrying the game.

I think we can thank Rutgers for completely deflating Washington's bubble, and Miami and the ACC replay booth for coming through and preserving their top5/6 ranking. All's well that ends well, let's hope for an exciting game.
